Medieval recipes were the flavor of the week during our last visit from Sageโthe community team has emerged victorious from our kitchen conquest! โ๏ธ Did the recipes hold up to the present day?
First up: the HRE's pancakes. http://pbs.twimg.com/media/FYxrOPFWQAEYApj.png
When it comes to the sesame seeds, less is more, but it's an excellent way of cutting the sweetness from the honey and adding a bit of complexity to an otherwise simple dish. One pancake goes a long way in terms of satisfying hunger, though, so be prepared to eat just one or two!
The resulting batter was quite runny, much less thick than modern pancake batter. Flipping multiple times is definitely recommended, as it also cooks slower than modern batter! Be careful not to use too much oil as well.
The next recipe we tried was the French civ's blend of spices on a tuna steak and a mahi mahi filet: freshly ground black pepper, cinnamon, ginger, cloves, and saffron. ๐ ๐ ๐ http://pbs.twimg.com/media/FYxuMvJWYAEAOh0.png
The flavor profile was rich and earthy, with a welcoming heat from each bite that left us open to trying other spice blends that might not seem appealing at first glance.
The tuna steak ended up being a bit too rich, but it made a great crust for the lighter mahi mahi. ๐ฝ๏ธ
And finally, what better way to top off our culinary campaign than with a refreshing drink from the English civ? ๐พ
Most of the ingredients were already in our cabinets for this one. ๐ฅ http://pbs.twimg.com/media/FYxwv5TX0AEk9R0.png
The sweet wine blend reminded us of the holiday season, and we're excited to bring it back to share with our friends and families!
Have you tried making any of the recipes? Be sure to check them out in the latest Sage of Empires entryโwe'd love to see! ๐
