I love rev but forge was wasted opportunity. I know forge was made to die but his abilities had good potential

With respect, his abilities were sh*tposts that we would never even put into prototyping ;P

Apex is a gun game! You can't have a melee character in a gun game and have them be both impactful and healthy for the core combat loop of the game.

Has nobody at respawn ever heard of Genji? Overwatch is a first person shooter and they managed to make him work very well.

Thanks for giving me the opportunity to talk about that real quick!

Overwatch and Apex are not in the same genre. There's no real agreed on vocabulary, but Apex is primarily a game about guns (shared pool of guns that everyone can use, gun skill is primary determiner of success/fail) while Overwatch is primarily a game about characters (no weapons shared between multiple characters, character weapons are treated more like skills, usage of skills is primary determiner of success).

This may sound like a subtle difference, but it really isn't. Apex is in a carefully chosen spot between gun usage and supportive character skill usage; I think any push toward a more character oriented game would fundamentally change the nature of Apex. You should be able to win an engagement primarily because your movement and aim is better than the other person; character usage should only move the needle by like 10%.

Apex is a gun game yet we have Caustic and Crypto. 🤔

I don't see the contradiction?

What I'm trying to say is that they don't need much gun skill to deal damage. But it doesn't matter, because Apex is still awesome. I was just saying... The good old days of CoD1/2 and Counter Strike style gun-on-gun shooters are long gone anyway. It's what I grew up playing for thousands of hours and miss since CoD4 introduced the kill streaks. Lost interest in FPS games at that point. But Apex is gun-on-gun enough and what brought me back to FPS so thank you for that. :) I just wish there weren't any air strikes and stuff, but it's whatever. I haven't played a shooter this much since CoD2.

Well I'll say this: Caustic is mostly ramping damage; you have ample time to leave the area before it becomes relevant. Crypto does do 50 shield damage, but the drone is pretty shootable, it means one of your enemy team can't be actively engage in combat at the same time, and it won't do any damage to you if you don't have shields. So yeah, you can do SOME damage with abilities, but you won't generally get a KILL with abilities.
