if you check the achievement analysis on steam, it shows that only 14% has gotten act 1 done on vet, 8% for act 2 and a 3% for both act 3 and 4. Yes veteran is not a cake walk but honestly if you have half a working brain plus some teamwork, you can get them done in a couple tries no problem. With my fix group we are on nightmare act 3, still pushing and learning but for veteran its pretty much a breeze for us. So during the group off days I spend most of my time pugging on veteran and man its that depressing. 20 runs I joined maybe 1 managed to get past the whole act and thats playing on PC with crossplay disabled (I did enabled it for the first couple days..Im am worried of my blood pressure so i decided to turn that off).

I am not a Pro so this thread is not bout me trying to flex to make you look bad. Im just spilling the truth and maybe it can help you and your team to do better on veteran difficulty. Heres the list:

1) You dont know the map because you farm too much.

Yes I know you need to unlock those supply lines to get those cards to play on higher difficulty bla bla bla but the honest truth is...giving you the whole set of cards, you still wont be able to get past act 1 on vet reason being, you dont understand whats going on. Cards are important but it only does that much for you and the rest is still down to your gameplay and teamwork. Understanding the maps is utmost important. The spawn points of the sleepers, the timer for each events, the chokepoints and defend spots when thing goes wrong etc. You dont get all these by just farming that 1 or 2 braindead maps (bloody worm hole and sh*t). The first 100 hours of mine I just play on recruit. Every act and every map I went through it at least 5 times. When I finally fine tuned that 1 deck that I wanna use, I already unlocked all supply lines. The point here is...you dont need to hard farm your points. Actually go play the maps, experience them, learn them, tune your deck, know your guns and sh*t..points will come. So many time I get from pugs on veteran is "i dont know the map". Thats the very basic and of course you dont my friend...the 1 map you know is fkin wormhole.

2) Common sense...the why most couldnt survive a zombie apocalypse

How to counter game mechanics, common sense. Just picture it as the game is real, theres this worm and the world is fked. So what do you do...when you hear horde screaming or you know a bunch of crazy cunts are coming for you? You find a safe corner or a room to defend yourself. What do you do...when a terminator figure is using a turret to defend against waves of zombies? you stand behind him and defend his ass from getting clapped by whats coming from behind. What do you do when theres 2 mutation coming your way, 1 melee and 1 range? you always take out the range one 1st. These are what we call common sense. Things that nobody needs to tell you what to do and you do it by instinct because you are a normal human being.

And look at how most reacts to these same scenarios ingame...horde coming...standing in the middle of the road with the sign "come eat my ass". Someone is operating the minigun, everyone just thinks that guy is blessed by jesus and he is invincible so lets leave the job for him we'll be slapping c*cks on screen. A retcher or a stinger together with a tallboy, everyone starts to panic aiming the tallboy 1st.

I mean if you wanna clear the game on veteran, you better have these common sense build inside you because its not me trying to be an elitist, is without having this attribute, you are dumb.

3) Dont try to play like a youtuber

Most youtubers, they are playing with a fix group which his teamates will funnel him stuff...for him to LOOK LIKE A YOUTUBER. You dont. They have skills, you dont and trust me you really dont. Never compare yourself with somebody that plays for a living. Ive seen enough fails when somebody is trying to pull a stunt just because that youtuber does it.

4) It is not ok to take extra damage

People always think that they are fine with 1 or 2 hits from a normal ridden because they are healthy. No its not. Other than the tank, everyone else's main focus is going through the whole map taking as little damage as possible. That way you can always leave the free healing charge from the heal stations for the tank and the whole group is economically healthy. The more copper you need to spend to heal, the less resources you have for the next. And 1 bad round of corruption cards will fail your run because you dont have enough resources to deal with them.

5) You are not rambo...you dont have infinite ammo..and you need to reload

Make every shot count. Every shot has to be killing something. Dont just spray your bullets into thin air. And most of the time a mutation gets you while you are reloading. If you know you need to reload, quickly dash behind something or a safe corner and do that. Ive seen so many reloading infront of a stalker or insight from a hocker.

6) FYI, SLEEPER IS A MINI ALARM

So you have those alarm doors, snitches and crows. If you are still setting those off unintentionally.. You are bad. But sleepers, it amuses me how many doesnt know that if you get pinned down by a sleeper, the screaming sound it does, will attract riddens and mutations in the area to you too. It is as deadly and unforgiving. If you have a karlee in your team, she should go clear off the sleepers nearby for the team, and if you dont have one...just be extra cautious while you are turning a corner.

7) The spawns of mutations are random if you are not organized

Alot are complaining bout tallboys will just suddenly spawn behind them and raped them professionally but actually they dont. A mutation dont appear out of thin air..they just managed to get close to you guys plainly because you guys are unorganized. Unorganized means..you have 4 people in your team and all of you guys are just tunneling 1 direction. Always watch and listen to your surroundings, i mean they even got sub titles showing "hocker leap" or "tallboy idle". 1 person needs to be always on lookout duty. If you play karlee enough, you will understand how the spawns work. When you enter a room or a spot...if theres a hole up on the roof or theres a nest pool (i dont know how to describe them..those tentacles like things in the corner) you wanna get away from those because those are spots that might give you a surprise. I dont deny there are bugs and glitches but 99% of the time the players are to blame.

8) Listen and follow instructions from a player that knows what he is doing

If theres an easy way to do things right...dont go learn the hard way. There are strats to cheese some maps. These strats are designed to complete the challenge in an efficient way. Maps like the hinterlands...diner...the graveyard etc. The experienced players are there to help you get past the stages.. not to make you look dumb (well if you wanna think that way...maybe it is). Follow and learn a thing or 2.

9) Speed strat does work for that 1 person and that person is not you

I hate to say that 99% of the times I see someone just pick evangelo right off the second the character selection screen is up...they are all plebs. These are true believers of speed strat which you can just speed through everything just to look cool. Of course theres this youtuber or streamer managed to do that..blablabla...drop it..you cant. If everyone can do that...what makes them streamers? No streamer is gonna stream how to peel an orange because everyone else can do it. Those are GOD TIER players...you and i we are trash tier players so just accept it and do the way that works for us. And honestly...whats the point of playing a game when you just want to speed through everything? Go play L4D. I see so many people complaining the game has not enough contents and sh*t..im 200+ hours in and I am still learning so much new things. Actually play the game and enjoy it.

10) You have the rights to play the game however ways you want but to be able to achieve...theres only 1 way

Yep..here's the player attitude part. "Veteran is overtuned".."the game is hard". My take is...it is challenging but not overtuned at all. Shoutout to the game devs that they are doing a freaking good job on delivering such good quality. The problem with game devs nowadays is they just nerf contents because of whiny babies that just expect to finish the whole game in 2 hours. Both challenging and immersive...it has been so long. I believe many more will agree with me on this. Whats the meaning of "veteran" and "nightmare"? You expect it to be like recruit? It is supposed to be hard. It is "overtuned" if you dont know what you are doing. Of course you can argue with me that it is a game and it should be enjoyable.. I call it bullsh*t but fair enough. Look..if fkin around and dont give a sh*t bout whats going on is your way of enjoying the game, suit yourself but dont complain that its too hard. You dont deserve it. The only way to get things done, is work as a team, play well get good and dont do stupid sh*t..take it or leave it. The ogre is not gonna throw flowers at you.. so just accept it and deal with it. The fun is beating the challenge.

Lastly, abit out of topic but I just wanna put it out here. Please for the love of god...stop complaining bout this game being overpriced. I mean not trying to be a dick here...if you are above 20 and you are complaining about 60 dollars...you have a bigger problem. If this game cost me 200 dollars, its still worth it. If you actually play the game, you'll know that this is a good bargain. If you dont like the game...fair enough but dont bring price into this...just say that you dont like it. Its embarassing

I was on the same boat as you on the 1st day. I played the beta which the spawns of mutations are very undertuned compare to the official release. Then due to my team set up and I have to main karlee. after so many games i realised they have a rhythm and there are also fixed "spawn points" of them in every map. Because of karlee's character perks..i can sense mutations behind walls..they are just there slowly moving to us..just other characters just couldnt see it so it appears to be a surprise lol. I started to do some runs on walker recently and man i feel blind..there were several times i just walk out a room with a smiley face right infront of me

Ya, AIs have a minimum distance that they can spawn at. I think it's maybe 10m? I would have to double check, we've been toying with pushing it out, but digging into it, we think the specials are just a bit too sneaky, so in one of the upcoming patches we are going to add some more sounds that help players identify them when they are on the move.

Also, sometimes when a tallboy is crawling out of a hole, they were actually first on the other side of the hole and you just happened to be standing near their exit. In general specials will spawn out of line of sight and some distance away, then move towards the player.
