This most recent patch introduced some big changes to economy. The quick summary is that Money Grubbers is no longer the best copper card in most scenarios, especially when your team isn't running three or more Copper Scavs. Disclaimer! This is math for Nighmare, No Hope is even worse. If you play recruit or veteran its fine I guess.

The basic math is as follows, Money Grubbers gives x additional copper with y scavenger cards assuming you grab every pile (10 per level on NM):

  • 234 with one
  • 315 with two
  • 408 with three
  • 513 with four

So, if you're the only one on the team running it you're only getting an additional 234 copper and that is only if you pick up every single copper pile on the map (10+2 piles from Copper Scav on nightmare since the patch.) Even with two copper scavs you're only getting 315 copper with every pile. It takes 3 or 4 CS to make this card shine and if you're playing with randoms that is never going to happen. If you're playing with friends running 4x CS and 4x grubbers is the way to go, as that means an additional 513 copper each + the extra 8 piles of 25. This is great in No Hope where econ is pretty rough.

Lets discuss the alternatives to CS+MG.

  • Lucky Pennies - unfortunately terrible
  • Hazard Pay - only provides 250 to you, also not great but better than running just money grubbers or running money grubbers + scav if you're the only one.
  • Bounty Hunter - 300 copper is basically guaranteed on NM so this is actually one of the better options, but just for you.
  • Share The Wealth - 100 copper each, making 400 copper total from this one of the best econ cards we have left.
  • Compound Interest - 50 extra copper per 1000 you hold, and players are holding less since the patch due to the random intel buys - most people wont end the level with tons. That said stacking 4 of these in your squad with friends for 20% gives 200 extra copper per 1000 held and that is not bad, but if you're organized you should probably all use CS+MG.

And the burn cards:

  • Hired Gun - gutted, a shadow of its former self. 750 copper is great if you're on a long level or can convince your team to farm but for a whopping 4 totems I would avoid buying it.
  • Windfall - so it's kinda limited, but this provides 600 copper across the team. Literally almost as much as hired gun and it's much more common.

So, what is the best econ card/s to take in your deck with randoms? Honestly probably Share The Wealth - it provides the most copper consistently and doesn't rely on others running copper scav. But that said, it doesn't work in hives. Bounty Hunter is decent, since it gives 300 consistently and works in hives. So depends what you're going to be playing.

Lets talk about it. What are your thoughts?

I was brainstorming on how to make lucky pennies viable and a little unique and I was wondering if we changed the name to something like Warped Pennies and have it spawn 5 warped copper piles.
