Hey folks,

Later today, I’ll be posting our 4.6 update notes. Prior to that, I wanted to set some expectations for the content previously shared for Chapter 4, and give you some insight on what to expect with this update.

Update 4.6 - This launches tomorrow. We’ve seen positive results on the top 3 Issues that we’ve been tracking since the launch of 4.4, and we’re confident that we’ll be seeing a resolution to the High Ping, and Firestorm Loot issues that have been affecting players this month. Big thanks for your patience whilst we got those resolved - there’s tons of other fixes and improvements in this months update so check back later today for the full notes.

Al Sundan - No update is complete without some Al Sundan. This map will go live on Conquest and Breakthrough following the release of this weeks Update on all three platforms.

Private Games - Our September update will not enable Private Games as we had hoped. It’s absolutely coming to Battlefield V but we have slowed our progress here in order to keep our focus on fixing issues, and ensuring that you're receiving the right standard of quality with each update. Our next Blog from the development team will be detailing the full feature set that we’re expecting with the first release of Private Games. This feature is now planned to release during Chapter 5.

Battlefest - It’s coming back for the lead up to Pacific, and will feature in Game Challenges that will allow Players to unlock the Trench Carbine, the Madsen MG, as well as other rewards that we’ll be detailing closer to the start of Battlefest.

Firestorm Loot Changes/Respawn Mechanic - In blogs published after EA Play, we said that we were working on introducing a radically different Looting system, as well as a Respawn Mechanic similar to the one found in Apex. These plans are presently on hold, and are being re-evaluated whilst we focus our efforts on restoring quality to the core of the Battlefield experience.

Our update notes will be published here on the Subreddit in the next few hours. We'll have them live in the game, and on the Battlefield website tomorrow morning.

Freeman // @PartWelsh

Edit: As noted in comments below Operation Underground is being delivered in the 4.6 Update, and we'll be setting it live in October. Adding it here in the edit to help highlight that.

Also, no mention of underground?

There's been no changes to our plans for Operation Underground. We are delivering the files for this map in this weeks update and will set it live in October.

Well, I cant speak for the rest of the community and I doubt this news will be taken well but I'm glad the "radio silence" on all this is cleared out

So as of 4.6

Its al sundan then

This should bring an end to that behaviour as well. We don't enjoy any scenario where we're silent on a topic but until we had 100% percent confirmation where we stood with the various topics of discussion, it wasn't proper for us to bring you an update or frustrate you with 'soon'.

So uh, thanks for finally breaking the silence but why are things going so slow? Why arent we hearing more? Its always the same "We cant say more than [insert standard phrase] we'll update you later"

Why assure us communication will get better if you are not planning on keeping that promise?

The standard for us has to be that we're communicating accurate and correct information (as best as we have it). Changes to previously announced content necessitates that we get all of the correct information before we're able to communicate, and if we're not satisfied that we have that, or feel that there's a chance for further changes, we need to be more measured in our response.

Leaving folks in the dark isn't something that I'm a fan of, and it's important that when you're shown or informed about new or upcoming content in the future that the content we're talking about is more firmly locked to avoid any disappointment. or more instances where we're in a position having to wait before opening the conversation.

4.6 is a strong update - it's put us back in a place where we're all optimistic for a warmer reception, and a hope that you'll start to see and feel the effort that we're putting into the game to help earn back your confidence.

Uhm, that's not what people expected. And I'd really vote for you to at least post that in the opening post above, since it's important. People expected the map to be live tomorrow (rather than All SoonDone, but won't nitpick there :D).

I've edited my post to contain that comment. And I understand completely that this isn't your expectation. There's confused messaging out there relating to this - it's listed as October in the Trailer shared before EA Play and then unfairly detailed in a way that suggests it's active vs. delivered in our 4.6 Update. This occurred in both our 4.4 Update Notes, and the Blog Post from Ryan in August.

It's not something we have the ability to undo at this stage other than to highlight the facts as we have them.

Well that's very good news Freeman. Frankly the "radio silence" imo made it worse as it made people jump to conclusions on stuff that had no reply from you guys.

This is good stuff. Hopefully with us cooperating we can bring this game to its place it deserves

Completely fair comment.

Whats the difference between delivered and live?

Is it simply a flick of a switch that makes it live, or is it more complicated than that? I'm sure you could understand how people would be frustrated if the map is in the game, but isn't playable due to some arbitrary release date, especially when we are in dire need of maps.

More complicated. Quality in the content is the number one focus for us and we need to be doubly thorough with our content releases. Since 4.0's launch, we've added two large scale maps to the game that generated issues. Al Sundan had a significant issue in both our pre-testing, and retail builds of the game that encouraged us to do more work on it. Marita was the same (the glint issue). We're delivering the files this week, and giving ourselves the opportunity to ensure that it's working correctly before setting it live.

So after the server came back up the other day, wasn't there some text notice in game that the next chapter (Chapter 5) was coming in March 2020? Or did I imagine that in a fever dream.

That was an error - it was incorrectly duplicating the Messaging that was ran after Chapter 2, bridging to Firestorms release in Chapter 3, but had somehow added a year.

Heu /u/PartWelsh ! Thanks for the update, I can't wait for the patch notes.

Since we're talking about expectations and you guys are currently ripping off the bandage somehow: about the Firestorm improvements, is there an actual chance it will end up being cancelled or is it just on hold for now and you'll definitely take more time to finish it later?

Something being on hold isn't usually a good sign and to be honest, I'd rather prepare myself for not seeing those Firestorm improvements instead of waiting and being disappointed.

Disclaimer: I totally understand Firestorm isn't a priority and TBH, it's not for me either... I'm... curious, I guess.

If it was straight up cancelled, I would have been instructed to communicate it as cancelled. The honest answer is simply as put in the post, our focus (and therefore resource) is focused on restoring quality for the mass of players. The closer we get to that goal, the sooner I'll learn what the decision is regarding finishing the work that was started here.

It was originally planned to be an update that shared what I've shared here. Our next blog is going to be wholly focused on Private Games.

Question, what is the point of including Operation Underground in the patch but not allowing access to it till later? Why not just have it active right away?

The only reason i can see is that content is so thin you wanna spread it out, but that doesnt help the problem it just makes it worse.

You said its in the patch, but cant play it till later? WHY? Thats so dumb.

I've shared a similar response elsewhere but the short version is to ensure Quality. Al Sundan did not behave correctly in the retail client vs. our testing, and Marita was similar (we had to Hotfix that issue).

Operation Underground is sincerely one of the best Battlefield maps I've played - and the gang I brought out to gamescom this year agree.

From our perspective, it's vitally important you have nothing short of an amazing experience with it, so the update will deliver the files, we'll be able to verify what we need, and in October, we'll be primed to set it live.

I can't fight the Drip meme meta, and I can't ask for your trust or confidence that we're acting in the best interests given the experience folks have had, and the further delays we confirmed today. But this is us acting responsibly and doing what's best for the player experience.

u/partwelsh hi can we get a word on the pricing in the armoury regarding cosmetic sets, if I own 1 of 3 items in a set the price is not lowered but continues to stay at full price.

As far as I know, we don't have a discount system built into the Armory. It will credit you with CC as a sort of 'scrap' value for duplicate content should you purchase it, but our systems aren't as sophisticated as that. I have volunteered this feedback to the team previously but I don't have anything additional to share on it.
