Can you still even buy functioning MG42s still? Reproductions or not?
I don't know about buying, but I was trained on the MG3 a bit over 10 years ago in the German army. That one is basically a MG42 with a slower fire rate. I think they replaced it by now though, but I am sure there are plenty of those guns left.
About hitting with that thing though...I am not sure. Even bipod-ed it's more of a suppression gun than something that hit's precisely. You also don't really want to fire it in full-auto. It just makes everything worse.
But hey, it's about fun in video games. We are really not trying to emulate real life. :P
