I would actually recommend a pagefile of 32GB.

It could be that you're running out of memory, which is causing the game to crash. Whatever the update was might have increased your memory usage enough to push you over, what your system can handle. Increasing the size of your pagefile should fix that.

It might also be something completely different ofc. To really see what's happening, we'll need your output log (player.log on Mac and Linux). This guide explains where to find it and suggests some sites to upload it to, as we can't attach files here on Steam.

It's definitely a memory crash. Your pagefile is full (and all the way up at 65GB!!). You need to reduce the amount of workshop content you are using, as it's way more than your system can handle. I reocmmend making workshop collections for things you might want to use at some point, but aren't using right now. It's a good way to keep track of nice assets and save RAM.

With 16GB of RAM you are expected to be able to have around 800-1200 assets (reduce that by 400 for each major DLC you have). Anything above that uses the pagefile.

You can also save memory by making sure you have no other programs running while playing the game. Browsers, media players, discord and so on all use RAM and you want to leave as much as you can for Cities.

Something pushed you over the edge. You had an update today, which might have been a mod or an asset. All it takes is for it to increase memory usage just enough that your pagefile can't keep up anymore.

Other factors that I've seen play a role is driver updates and Windows updates, which also increase memory usage. Or if you're running any other programs while the game runs, updates to them which increase memory usage. An extra open tab in your browser can be all it takes.

yeah all it was, it was just the Steam update...

So to increase my memory, should I increase the pagefile? Or install more RAM?

Installing more RAM or reducing the amount of workshop content you have are the best options here. Increasing the size of your pagefile might also do it, but it's already really large, so I would recommend trimming down workshop subscriptions.

Originally posted by Phoenyx: Ok I unsubbed to about 100 items and took off a couple mods, and then I started the map creator with everything turned off.

I got a completely different error that said VisualAlloc failed and then my entire PC crashed and froze....I don't think its the number of assets I have at this point.... Something else must be the case

That's usually a memory related error. Try adding the launch option -noWorkshop and see if it will load fine.

If you suspect there's something different going on, then we'll need the output log to see what's happening.
