Oh, an old game version, yes. But you can't freeze on the current game version and prevent Steam from applying some future update to it.

I don't believe so; Steam automatically updates all content - games and mods - at the latest when you next go to play any game. You'd basically have to put Steam into offline mode, or disconnect the computer from the internet.

Actually, you can't do that either! All you can do is choose between the update downloading soon, or when you next play.

Great! I wonder what exact Windows version/build you have, that will help us diagnose the root cause of this.

DXDIAG is a program you run from the Windows search box on the task bar. After running it will open a window and start collecting info with a progress bar in the lower-left corner. When it completes click the 'save all information' button and save it to a file then attach that file here.

Thanks!

I don't mean whether your graphics are set to high or low. I mean these settings:

Right click on ck3.exe , properties, compatibility. Tick "disable fullScreen optimisations" untick every other box in that dialog, Apply and exit.
Unload GeForce Experience if running.
Then in the launcher Game Settings menu, select fullScreen display mode, Vsync off, refresh rate 60.

And can you answer these questions please:
Has this always been the case since you've had the game? Or it was okay up to some point?

Is it right from the start of a new campaign? Or only after playing for a period, or only in mid or late game play?

We have three possible workarounds that may solve it:

Disable IPv6
- Close CK3
- Go to Control Panel > View Network status and tasks > Change adapter settings (left side)
- Find your Hamachi Connection and Disable it
- Find your Internet connection adapter (for me, it was WiFi)
- Right click your internet adapter and select properties
- Scroll down to find "Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6) and uncheck the box
- Select Ok
- Start up CK3 and should work.

Disable all other network adapters
Go to Windows Control panel.
Click on Network & Internet.
Click on View Network Status.
Quick Tip: You can also quickly access these settings by right-clicking the network icon in the taskbar and selecting the Network & Internet settings option.
Click on Change adapter options.
Right-click all network adapters that are not connected to the internet and select the Disable option.

Yes, I saw those in your previous post. They are fine.

Can you answer the questions in my previous post please?

Did you try those settings changes?

I don't know what else to look at here I have to admit, without the logs we're clueless.

Did that updated launcher installer do anything? Let's see a new --pdxlDebug log from that please.

When you. say 'random' you mean that it crashes in one place,m you load up that save again and it does not crash there again, but carries on and crashes elsewhere?

Any mods involved?

Has this always happened, or it used to be okay?

Do you have a save that shows the problem fairly reliably?

As the launcher runs, they are certainly there! You looked in both locations?

This should be an updated version of the launcher installer
https://launcher.paradoxinteractive.com/v2/paradox-launcher-installer-linux but that won't solve the problem that is preventing the launcher from updating itself.

That looks like the launcher is stuck on 2022.9 , is that the version you see? It ought to be 2023.2 now.

There are also standard launcher logs in

  • $XDG_DATA_HOME/Paradox Interactive/launcher-v2/logs/ (if $XDG_DATA_HOME is set)
  • ~/.local/share/Paradox Interactive/launcher-v2/logs/ (if $XDG_DATA_HOME is not set)

Thanks.

Then it is not the current VPN issue I think.

In this folder are some .log files:
C:/users/{userName}/AppData/Local/Paradox Interactive/launcher-v2/
Please attach them here.

You haven't set ck3.exe to run as Admin also, have you? If so, undo that.

Otherwise, this may be a launcher issue that is currently being worked on.

I have just recently seen reports here of this only happening when a VPN is in use, in fact! No real idea why.

What launcher version shows ? Current is 2023.1.1 .
