The saving isn't the issue so I didn't mess with last_save (I lose so little with that it doesn't matter to me)
Did you reinstate those settings from post #2?

You may have a Steam problem there. Please do a full **clean** re-install of Steam and game:

- move any valued save games elsewhere
- "uninstall" in Steam-CK3
- exit the Steam app completely
- manually delete both the Steam/SteamApps/common/CK3 AND Documents/Paradox Interactive/CK3 folders
- delete everything in the Steam folder EXCEPT steam.exe and the SteamApps folder
- run steam.exe to rebuild all that
- re-install game in Steam, run a Steam Verify when done.
- add CK3.exe to the exceptions list of your antivirus app; ESPECIALLY if you have Windows Defender, add it to the Ransomware "Apps Allowed Through" list.
- start the game with no mods active and test

Good luck!

Discord is off.
Always best to start your own thread - same symptom does not necessarily mean the same case.

Did you go through everything I've suggested in this thread? You don't say either way.

To find the installation folder for any Steam game, right click on it in your Steam Library, Manage, Browse Local files.

Then, in this game's case, you go into the Binaries folder.

You may find the Documents/Paradox Interactive/CK3/last_save.ck3 file preserves your campaign better.

After one of these crashes, can you reload the game and save game and carry on? Or do you need to reboot or wait a while before it will run again?

Please attach here your Documents/Paradox Interactive/CK3/pdx_settings.txt .
From your Documents/Paradox Interactive/CK3/logs/ folder, attach here system.log , error.log , exceptions.log

Right click on ck3.exe , properties, compatibility. Tick "disable fullScreen optimisations" untick every other box in that dialog, Apply and exit.
Then in the launcher Game Settings menu, select fullScreen display mode, Vsync off, refresh rate 60.

Is that any better?

If you hover over that icon, it will tell you what it means. Most likely the latest save is from a previous game version.

What happens if you hit PLAY there exactly?

Can you start the game from ck3.exe run directly from file explorer?

Can you give it another go now? It should be sorted from what I understand.

I deleted all files from the folder, didn't work.
My guess is you didn't clear out all files and folders before reinstalling. Here's the full process:

- move any valued save games elsewhere
- "uninstall" in Steam-CK3
- manually delete both the Steam/SteamApps/common/CK3 AND Documents/Paradox Interactive/CK3 folders
In particular make sure there are no files or folders left under either the Steam CK3 or Documents CK3 locations, before installing again.

What if you exit the Steam app entirely before running ck3.exe ?

We have three possible workarounds that may solve it:

Disable IPv6
- Close CK3
- Go to Control Panel > View Network status and tasks > Change adapter settings (left side)
- Find your Hamachi Connection and Disable it
- Find your Internet connection adapter (for me, it was WiFi)
- Right click your internet adapter and select properties
- Scroll down to find "Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6) and uncheck the box
- Select Ok
- Start up CK3 and should work.

Disable all other network adapters
Go to Windows Control panel.
Click on Network & Internet.
Click on View Network Status.
Quick Tip: You can also quickly access these settings by right-clicking the network icon in the taskbar and selecting the Network & Internet settings option.
Click on Change adapter options.
Right-click all network adapters that are not connected to the internet and select the Disable option.

burgunfaust said: launching thru the ck3.exe resulted in the same issue inside Steam that caused this tech request. No change.
I'm not quite following you here, as running it that way does not involve Steam at all, nor that CEF process. You are double clicking on ck3.exe directly in File Explorer, not using a desktop shortcut or something like that?

That is an instance of the Chrome browser that our launcher uses. Why this is happening for you but not others I'm not sure!

If you start the game from CK3.exe , which bypasses the browser, do you still get this? I'll guess not.

Either way, what antivirus app do you use? You need to make sure all these apps are in its exceptions lists:

ck3.exe (in the Steam CK3-binaries folder)
dowser.exe (in the Steam CK3-launcher folder)
C:/users//AppData/Local/Programs/Paradox Interactive/launcher-v2.2022.14/paradox launcher.exe
C:/users//AppData/Local/Programs/Paradox Interactive/bootstrapper-v2.exe

When this happens: In Task Manager -processes, what do you see still running? Possibilities are:

ck3.exe
paradox launcher.exe
dowser.exe
cefprocess.exe

Also, please make sure you're on the latest version of the game, the crow won't appear unless you're on 1.8 or above.

Can both of you check if you have the Płock Diadem in your barbershop? I've confirmed that you're both signed up and have the item registered to your account so it should really be there!

The normal file path for the folder you want to use there, like D:/CK3/ or whatever.
