I actually don't see a crash in those logs, were there no other logs? I can see that your system is a bit on the older side, can you attach a DxDiag as well please?

  • Open your Start menu, Cortana or Search
  • Type "dxdiag" in the search field (without quotes)
  • Click on the dxdiag program
  • A window called "DirectX Diagnostic Tool" should pop up now
  • Wait until the green bar at the bottom-left has disappeared
  • At the bottom right-hand side, click on "Save all information"
  • Save it to a place where you can find it easily, for example your desktop
  • Attach this file here

Attach the logs and we may be able to figure out the cause ;).

I'm not quite sure of your answer; what game version was that save game you put in your OP here started under? 1.6.x, or 1.7.x ?

Can you start and play a new test campaign now alright?

One trick is to rename one of its parent folders, then run a Steam verify against the game to rebuild it.

That could indicate a bigger issue as explain here:

If you cannot delete a file and you see an error message Error 0x80070570, The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable, on Windows 11/10, then see this post. www.thewindowsclub.com... Read more

Please set each of these .exe file to run as the Windows Admin user:

dowser.exe (in the Steam CK3/launcher folder)
C:/users//AppData/Local/Programs/Paradox Interactive/launcher-v2.2022.11/paradox launcher.exe
C:/users//AppData/Local/Programs/Paradox Interactive/bootstrapper-v2.exe

That should fix that permisisons error we see in there!

Please do a full **clean** re-install:

- move any valued save games elsewhere
- "uninstall" in Steam-CK3
- unsubscribe from ALL mods in the Steam workshop for this game
- manually delete both the Steam/SteamApps/common/CK3 AND Documents/Paradox Interactive/CK3 folders
- re-install game in Steam, run a Steam Verify when done.
- add CK3.exe to the exceptions list of your antivirus app; ESPECIALLY if you have Windows Defender, add it to the Ransomware "Apps Allowed Through" list.
- start the game with no mods active and test

In particular make sure there are no files or folders left under either the Steam CK3 or Documents CK3 locations, before installing again.

If that goes okay, you can subscribe to mods again - but ONLY those known to be updated to work with the 1.7.2 patch.

Good luck!

I assume you mean screenshots 4, 6.

So running ck3.exe gets you 1.7.2 or 1.7.0?

If the latter we need to fix your launcher issue so Steam updates you. Please try this:

- uninstall Paradox Launcher v2 from the Windows "Apps and features" utility, if still present.

Delete the following folders if still present:

- C:/users/{userName}/AppData/Local/Programs/Paradox Interactive/
- C:/users/{userName}/AppData/Local/Paradox Interactive/
- C:/users/{userName}/AppData/Roaming/Paradox Interactive/launcher-v2/
To see the AppData folder you'll need to enable View Hidden Items in File Explorer.

- exit the Steam app entirely
- run steam.exe as the Windows Admin user

- run the game from the PLAY button in Steam

IF that doesn't help, in this folder are some .log files:
C:/users/{userName}/AppData/Local/Paradox Interactive/launcher-v2/
Please attach them here. ... Read more

If you have not opted into any beta version in Steam, it will always install the current version, being 1.7.2 ... ?!?

The current version ara checksum are 1.7.2 [ba42]; is that what you see in the main game menu? If not probably one of your mods has changed it, OR you have implemented debug mode.

In the former case, Please do a full **clean** re-install:

- move any valued save games elsewhere
- "uninstall" in Steam-CK3
- manually delete both the Steam/SteamApps/common/CK3 AND Documents/Paradox Interactive/CK3 folders
- re-install game in Steam, run a Steam Verify when done.
- add CK3.exe to the exceptions list of your antivirus app; ESPECIALLY if you have Windows Defender, add it to the Ransomware "Apps Allowed Through" list.
- start the game with no mods active and test

In particular make sure there are no files or folders left under either the Steam CK3 or Documents CK3 locations, before installing again.

Lots of errors in that log, as you can see, including some problem mods.

Please do a full **clean** re-install:

Does that make any difference?

If you are running our launcher in standalone mode, you'll be using an old game version 1.6.1 as this game is no longer being updated in that platform.

My question was about running the Steam installation of ck3.exe directly from File Explorer, not from our launcher. That will be version 1.7.2 .

Crashing on save is usually either an antivirus app getting in the way, or running out of memory.

What AV app do you use? Make sure the new 1.7.2 ck3.exe is in all its exceptions lists.

If those don't help:
DXDIAG is a program you run from the Windows search box on the task bar. After running it will open a window and start collecting info with a progress bar in the lower-left corner. When it completes click the 'save all information' button and save it to a file then attach that file here.

Please attach here your Documents/Paradox Interactive/CK3/pdx_settings.txt .
From your Documents/Paradox Interactive/CK3/logs/ folder, attach here system.log , error.log , exceptions.log

Hard to see how a graphics setting could cause a Windows error.

Definitely odd; that dowser log says it can't start bootstrapper-v2.exe yet the bootstrapper log looks fine. Was there no cpatch.log in that same folder?

Can you start the game with ck3.exe directly in File Explorer?

That's an unusual Windows error code, it's not one I have an immediately answer for I'm afraid.

Has this game ever worked on this machine? Or it's been like this since you had it?

Do CK2, EU4 and HOI4 work okay on it? Or do they have problems too?

JayTee said: Sorry it took so long, it is still the same via VPN and tested it with a third person, same thing :(
Both you and your brother still get this slowness with a third person, are you saying?

Is there any way you can try this from some other location?

In that case you have an unrelated problem, as that bug is definitely fixed now.

We see no crashes in ck3.exe in that dxdiag.

Right click on ck3.exe , properties, compatibility. Tick "disable fullScreen optimisations" untick every other box in that dialog, Apply and exit.
Then in the launcher Game Settings menu, select fullScreen... Read more
