reviest said: Thank you for taking time to help me. I've found out that the problem is with with explorer.exe process which is loading cpu until I open task manager. The moment I open task manager the explorer.exe process reduces cpu usage from 30% to 0% and CK3 immediately starts working as expected.
Goodness me! No real idea why that would be, aside from my speculations from before

I am pretty sure that is the case, yes. FYI I have not seen any other such reports.

Can you contact nVidia support and run the problem by them? I believe some early builds of the 30xx series did have hardware problems.

reviest said: Using test account helped and I was able to see the game working as intended. No changes on main account.
Then either something is running under the main account that isn't in the test account, which is getting in the way, OR there is a problem with the user profile of that main account (which would be a Windows problem I can't really help further with).

There's no file attached to your post.

Just to be clear, 1.6.1.2 is now slow whereas it was not before?

If that is the case, clearly the issue is local and outside the game as such! However I see nothing in particular in those files to point to what it might be.

If you make another user on this machine and log into it as that, does the problem still happen with both game versions?

Please install and run the free utility Speccy, send its output to a text file and attach that here, thanks.

Right click on ck3.exe , properties, compatibility. Tick "disable fullScreen optimisations" untick every other box in that dialog, Apply and exit.
Then in the launcher Game Settings menu, select fullScreen display mode, Vsync off, refresh rate 60.

Is that any better?

If not, does reverting to 1.6.x in the Steam Betas tab for this game get back to acceptable performance? Or still an issue now?

I fear you have a driver or hardware problem then.

- uninstall the nVidia driver and all other nVidia software
- reboot
- install Sept 2022 by fresh download https://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us
- reboot again

If that still doesn't help, Please report the temperatures of your CPU and video (GPU)
1/ before starting the game up and
2/ after say 10 minutes' play.
If your PC's vendor has given you no way of reading temperatures, install
SPEEDFAN ... Read more

A case here where swapping to a standard Windows version helped
forum.paradoxplaza.com

Game crash upon startup after graphics card update

I recently updated my graphics card (nothing out of the ordinary, just a pretty standard update), and now CK3 is unable to start up. Every time I click "play" on the game launcher, the game will attempt to launch, but then crash quickly after. I... ... Read more

I think we may have a problem with this unusual Windows version:
Windows 10 IoT Корпоративная LTSC 64-bit
I don't recall seeing it before, but this is the third one this week! From what i see it's not intended as a consumer OS but for hospitals etc, and in any case is due to leave MS support this month. And I'm pretty sure our games are not tested on it at all.

Do you have access to a normal consumer build of Windows 10 or 11 you can move to?

Please do a full **clean** re-install:

- move any valued save games elsewhere
- "uninstall" in Steam-CK3
- manually delete both the Steam/SteamApps/common/CK3 AND Documents/Paradox Interactive/CK3 folders
- re-install game in Steam, run a Steam Verify when done.
- add CK3.exe to the exceptions list of your antivirus app; ESPECIALLY if you have Windows Defender, add it to the Ransomware "Apps Allowed Through" list.
- start the game with no mods active and test

In particular make sure there are no files or folders left under either the Steam CK3 or Documents CK3 locations, before installing again.

If those don't help:
DXDIAG is a program you run from the Windows search box on the task bar. After running it will open a window and start collecting info with a progress bar in the lower-left corner. When it completes click the 'save all information' button and save it to a file then attach that file ... Read more

Well that's interesting; I haven't see that happen with others with the same hardware!

Game Version: 1.7.2
OS: Windows 10
Mods Installed: No
Where did you observe this issue: I randomly found this one, it's the son of a neighbour count (see screenshot below)
Other information: when I reloaded the game, this character was back to normal

It's a Windows setting, nothing to do with Steam, so I'm sure not.

Whether there's any way to do it in, say, the registry is beyond my Windows knowledge I'm afraid.

That may be due to your unusual edition of Windows 10 Enterprise 2016 LTSB, which I don't recall coming across before. I see it is intended for use in situations where frequent updates would be a problem such as hospitals. I'm sure we don't test our games on it. And it becomes unsupported in about 2 weeks' time.

Were you at all considering going to Win11 any time soon? If so this might be a great time for that!

No mention of CK3 in that dxdiag , I see. That would typically point to an issue outside the game.

But as you can see, still those DX11 errors in that log. Right click on ck3.exe , properties, compatibility. Tick "disable fullScreen optimisations" untick every other box in that dialog, Apply and exit.

Then in the launcher Game Settings menu, select fullScreen display mode, Vsync off, refresh rate 60.

If there was a bug in this game that stopped it working at all for everyone, we'd know about it well before now! So I doubt a patch will fix your problem, which is more likely in Windows somewhere.

If there are no errors in that log we've made progress it seems, but clearly not enough. If you run ck3.exe directly from File Explorer now, what happens?

Odd ... you may need help from nVidia support on that.

Do you still get those DX11 errors in that log?
