When you start the game from the Steam PLAY button, the first thing you see is our launcher, yes? Can you log into that launcher there okay?

This game does take longer to start up than our other games. How long are you seeing?

Can you log into our launcher before starting the game from it okay? Have you always had this problem or it used to be okay up to some point?

Crashes that happen after some hours' play (in any game on any OS) are usually overheating, but I can't see why that would only happen on save operations. You could check the CPU and GPU temps after say 1 hour of play though.

NikolajRC said: To be fair, I am playing the steam release on Arch Linux, and not Ubuntu/Debian, which I doubt the game was even tested on
This is most likely the problem as the game was built for Ubuntu. It hasn't been tested on other Linux builds and since you're using a build we don't support there's not really anything we can do for you. That being said we do have quite a few Linux wizards in the community so there may be someone in the same boat as you that has solved it somehow and is willing to share the workaround.

Running ck3.exe does bypass the launcher completely. Your problem is nothing to do with the launcher.

Is the Documents/Paradox Interactive/CK3/logs/ folder still empty?

So far we have 0 clues as to what is wrong on this machine to affect our game this way. Clearly something changed between when it last worked and first had this problem, but I cannot see what.

What if you make a new Windows user on this machine and log into it with that, any different?

This is done in the launcher, not the game, as I mentioned. Please try that.

This problem is nothing to do with .NET as the game does not use it (only the launcher does).

You ran both those VC++ installers? Any issue doing so?

May as well update that nVidia driver to August 2022 https://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us

If that doesn't help, Right click on ck3.exe , properties, compatibility. Tick "disable fullScreen optimisations" untick every other box in that dialog, Apply and exit.

Then in the launcher Game Settings menu, select fullScreen display mode, Vsync off, refresh rate 60.

Is that any better?

This article lists the download links for the latest versions of Visual C++ Redistributable packages. support.microsoft.com And run the x86 and x64 installers there.

IF that doesn't help, Please do a full **clean** re-install:

- move any valued save games elsewhere

No, it means the launcher has a bug that means it won't run under MacOS before 12.x , nothing to do with the game as such - you can run the game with ck3.app directly.

I would hope and assume this bug will be fixed in the next launcher version.

The launcher and game use the Windows location for the User Documents folder, which is recorded in Windows and is nothing whatsoever to do with where the launcher or game are installed. You don't mention having moved that off OneDrive so it's probably still pointing there.

In the left column of File Explorer right click on Documents, just under This PC there. Go to properties, Location - what does it say in there?

Did you notice my post just before yours?

P4CH said: As I mentioned before MS/gamepass. Installation on C: drive does not help. Any suggestion? The same account on two PCs, DLC installed on both, but launcher on one PC have DLC tab on another don't.
Then either there is a problem with one of the Windows User profiles, or there's an AV app or something else active in one user but not the other, that is doing this.

IME after doing this for 20 years, 90c is too hot and can cause such issues; the fact that capping the refresh rate to 60 helped to some degree points in that direction too. You are free to disagree of course.

And we see those LiveKernelEvent recorded by Windows there; something is causing those!

Can you confirm those settings from post #2 above are still all in effect?

That i have no explanation for; the issue we see in dxdiag does not look to me like the kind of thing any mod could cause; you could of course ask that modder if they have any other such reports.

We don't see the GPU errors in that log any more, but OTOH there are still these in the dxdiag:
Fault bucket LKD_0x141_Tdr:6_IMAGE_nvlddmkm.sys_Pascal_UserOC, type 0
Event Name: LiveKernelEvent
Can you contact nVidia support and see if they are aware of any problem with your model or build of GPU?

There's a problem with your nVidia driver or card:
Fault bucket LKD_0x141_Tdr:6_IMAGE_nvlddmkm.sys_Pascal_UserOC, type 0
Event Name: LiveKernelEvent
Please do a clean update of that driver:

- install it, and all other nVidia software
- reboot
- install August 2022 https://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us
- reboot again

THEN Right click on ck3... Read more

There is your problem for sure! Anything over 80c will cause problems like this. Quite unusual to see the CPU hotter than the GPU.

Clean out all air vents it has (compressed air cans are good for this). Make sure airflow to them is not blocked by anything like walls, books or whatever.
If that doesn't drop the temps enough, you probably have a faulty fan or a heatsink/thermal paste problem. You may need professional help at that point.

Is that CPU or GPU? Whichever one, can we have the temps for the other please?

We see several LiveKernelEvent entries in that dxdiag which happen when Windows is forcibly downed or rebooted. Have you seen that happen, was is related to this game or something else?

Has this always happened since you've had the game? Or it was okay up to some point?

DXDIAG is a program you run from the Windows search box on the task bar. After running it will open a window and start collecting info with a progress bar in the lower-left corner. When it completes click the 'save all information' button and save it to a file then attach that file here.

Please attach here your Documents/Paradox Interactive/CK3/pdx_settings.txt .
From your Documents/Paradox Interactive/CK3/logs/ folder, attach here system.log , error.log , exceptions.log

Please report the temperatures of your CPU and video (GPU)
1/ before starting the game up and
2/ after say 10 minutes' play.
If your PC's vendor has given you no way of reading temperatures, install
SPEEDFAN ... Read more
