I know it's an informal rule system, but this violates reddiquette:

(Please Don't)
Take moderation positions in a community where your profession, employment, or biases could pose a direct conflict of interest to the neutral and user driven nature of reddit.

Escape from Tarkov had issues because of dev-mods, which is a worry we'll have should there be a criticism that is unfixable / against a core profit motivator.

I hope this doesn't come across as inflammatory towards the mods/devs because so far you guys have done a really great job from what I can see but I think this is pretty unethical. Who knows what would have been hidden if the Anthem sub was dev run for example.

Hey I see some confusion here, so let me clear things up.

The only ones actively doing modding are 9 community mods, who do not work for PHX, and myself. I am a community manager for Phoenix Labs so it's important for me to be close to the community. I keep an eye on conversations, help update Reddit with live information from the studio when necessary, and providing open and honest answers to questions about Dauntless or PHX.

Only in extremely rare cases do any other Devs have anything to do with removals or bans.

No mods will ever remove a post just because it is negative. If the post has excessive vulgar language then we remove it and encourage the OP to repost with some minor edits. Feedback both negative and positive is important for Dauntless' future. You guys' are who we make Dauntless for, so I will always jump at the opportunity to bring your voices to the Development teams <3

Hopefully this clear the air a bit, if you have any questions I am happy to answer them :}

Wrong. I just checked the AMA, in the post there’s a list of “Developers in this tread”, and a few are mods here, like u/PHX-Shae I’m not arguing that this is bad tho, but I understand OP’s logic.

The AMA was answered by Devs, but only myself, u/bunheadwhat (the other community manager focused on influences and partners), and u/crash7800 (our previous community manager now Broducer) have mod powers on the Dauntless Subreddit.

I am the only one who actively is moderating and improving the Reddit along with 9 community mods, who do not work for PHX :}

Thanks for replying, and I'm really not trying to stir up anything. I really love the game and the devs seem like good people.

I have a question on active moderation vs people with moderator positions. Just checking u/gtez's history, it seems like he is both a mod and works on the game? He/She seems like a genuinely nice dev, but if they are only moderators in extreme edge cases, couldn't they simply be flaired and unmodded since it shouldn't impact the subreddit management anyways?

I'm not necessarily advocating for that by the way, just looking for an answer on why we couldn't do that instead. I don't know its just a little scary if there was an intensely polarizing topic that the Dev-side would have control over the sub.

For example, what if someone wrote a long form post about micro transactions in this game and a lot of people agreed that they didn't like the way they were implemented. After enough of those posts would they start being removed? As a community manager, would you not only listen to the concerns over this, but allow people to continue vocalizing their remarks (as players posting on a subreddit is usually our only course of action for protesting something).

EDIT: Again, this sub is a breath of fresh air seeing so much positivity, but I'm sure as someone in the community management sphere you are aware there will probably be ups and downs for player morale. I really appreciate how open you guys have been so far, so thank you.

EDIT2: https://imgur.com/a/thAFR3c Is this list not accurate?

There are a bunch of devs with mod powers for different reasons :} Gtez is the CEO of Phoenix Labs, and thus needs to always have the power to remove anyone. For example, if a community manager leaves PHX he has the power to unmod them immediately. He does not actually use his mod powers to deal with posts or comments like I do <3

The other devs who also have mod permissions are web developers to help with CSS and/or anyone involved with the community team. No other devs have mod abilities :}

Like I mentioned before, we will not removed posts just for being negative or protesting something we have done. These are really important moments for the community and I take all oh it directly to the studio. We deal with everything on a case by case basis, so if a post was removed, there was a reason for it. That reason will never be "because I don't like it." If this did happen somehow, please please please bring it to me and I will handle the mod accordingly.

You make a good point. I deModded myself. I was a mod when we were a much smaller subreddit, before we really had a community who wanted to self-organize.

Wow, this is super cool. Thank you so much for thinking about this and coming to a decision. My brother and I recently started playing and have loved every minute of it. I'm really hoping to make this my main game, so thanks for checking off the "Devs are sick" box.

I do have a pretty bad cough. :(
