(already warning, bad english incoming)

So, I was reading the patch notes, and when I got to the slayer's path I was kind of excited. However, when I saw how the would change the weapon power and armor resistance I got a little bit mad.

To me, it removes a core mechanic of the game: farming for the parts/orbs you need. With this update, you no longer need to grind those parts, like orbs or arcstones. You no longer have a purpose to farm something. For me it isn't fun to have to fight a gnasher or a lesser embermane just to upgrade the weapon level so that I can finally hunt heroic or heroic+ monsters. The old system is good, at least to me. It isn't some insane grinding, as you can get fairly easily orbs and arcstones through patrols and rare or epic drops if you do good on the hunt. I understand they are trying to reduce the grind, but honestly, coming from other games like Monster Hunter (where a f*ckING item has a 2% chance to come) or Trove, it really isn't a big of a deal.

Another issue I have with this mechanic is that I can no longer do a quick build to try a new weapon. Instead, I need to grind even more so that I can be on the same power level as the behemoth.

Imagine that I am a striker main that's in the endgame and want to try out axe. Rn (before dauntless reforged), you can just do some quick grinding of an axe (for example, rifstalker's) and just do/upgrade some parts of armor that would fit the build that I want to get to the same level (equipment wise) as I was with strikers. I would be, after that quick/light grind, ready (again, equipment wise) to fight the same behemoths I did with strikers. But with the Dauntless Reforged's new system, I would need to create the parts of the set AND upgrade my weapon level to the same as I was with strikers to have the same power level, bc as Phoenix Labs said, you don't want to fight an heroic behemoth with just a weapon level of two.

I think that this just augments the grind, at least from what they say it will be like. Also, this would just remove the purpose of rare/epic drops and farming archstones and, as such, to do dire/heroic/heroic+ patrols, to fight dire/heroic/heroic+ behemoths and to fight the behemoths variations.

To me, at least, this is just bad.

I understand that, if you only play with one weapon, this just removes the grind altogether, but isn't the grind part of the games soul? To fight monsters for their parts, use them to make armor and fight bigger and harder monsters that offer parts that offer better gear? Isn't it the soul of a monster hunting game? To hunt monsters?

To me, a possible solution would be to put it as an option. So basically you could choose between the old upgrading system or this new upgrading system. The old one if you wanted to upgrade a weapon from a weapon type that you don't have very leveled up, or the new one if you wanted to upgrade a weapon from a weapon type that you have very leveled up.

I'm sorry if this turned out so big, or if it turned to a rant at some point. I just wanted to give my opinion about this new system.

Thanks for reading! :D

You still need Behemoth parts and Rams to craft a weapon or armour, and again to power surge it. Just like before. :)

Hypothetically, if I just got the final Gnasher claw and upgraded all my Gnasher gear to +10, do I need to farm those parts again after the patch?

Nope, you will be granted all the parts required to power surge for every piece at +10 or above (as this is currently the level where you need those parts, +11 to +15 being only arcstone). 👍

Turns out this is not true. Before the patch I had every single weapon and armor maxed out. Now I don't even have the parts to powersurge half of the Agarus weapons and no armor at all. And from looking at the numbers I guess I did not get a single Agarus part.

Very sorry about that (I too am impacted by this), we're looking into it though, so bear with us!
