Hi fellow dwarves, I'm posting cause I can't see any recent posts discussing the subject.

I saw that comic on this sub yesterday and was really repulsed at the way it was making light of sexual assault / rape. Especially as this is normally a welcoming community, which made it sting even more to see a mod commenting with a joke about how it was on the edge of being inappropriate. I wondered if it was just me being overly sensitive but it appeared in my feed again today, because a subreddit for women who like gaming (please leave them alone) had reposted it as a discussion point / example of something that she found offputting. The comments were generally in agreement that this was really disappointing to see in what's normally a really positive community. I came back to the original post and noticed a lot of people in the comments making the same observations, but they weren't exactly the top rated comments, which doesn't really make us come across as exemplary dwarves.

I'm not sure leaving the post up and and locking discussion with a mod comment was the best response either, maybe someone could help me to understand this course of action?

Edit: The amount of people replying telling me (and presumably all the other women who feel the same way) that we should just feel differently about this is really sad to the point where I don't think this community is for me anymore. It's been good while it lasted.

The post was locked with a message because there needed to be clarification on it. There are pros and cons to doing so, but I feel it's the current best way to put light on the issues that have been poking their head out, and a chance for us to learn and hopefully do better.

I've also realized that we've reached a size where these things happen more and more, and I'll take it up with the team to see what measures we can take to make them happen less. Whether it's a stricter ruleset on the type of posts and content allowed, and/or heavier moderation with more moderators, or something completely different, I don't know... but the goal is to have a subreddit where people can coexist without throwing slurs at each other or seeing inappropriate content. Not everyone will like this, but it's a better alternative to having this amount of toxicity in the subreddit.

I will also lock this thread and leave it up (after taking a flamethrower to the comment section). Please note that this does not mean I disagree with the message, but rather that the comments are turning into an absolute sh*tshow and not furthering the discussion anymore.

I'm not infallible by any means, but this is getting hostile and entirely out of control, and that's not the kind of subreddit anyone wants for Deep Rock Galactic. All I want for Christmas is that we as a community can do better than this, and welcome others in, no matter what.
