I found a few tactics to speed up interactions with the ammo converter. I play on the PC, so the first two may require a keyboard

1) Tab: Old School Forward and Back if you ever had a job that requires you to interact with a mainframe built before you were born, you may remember using the tab key. The terminal's dogsh*t UI benefits from the same button on your keyboard. Tab will return you to the last screen. To speed things up, navigate to the transaction you would like to conduct (e.g. get points->low ballistics->.38). Let go of your mouse. Hit enter to do the transaction. Let the confirmation screen load. Now hit tab to return you to the last screen- the transaction screen. You can now hit enter again to do the transaction. Now just tab / enter / tab / enter / over and over until you run out of ammo or need to spend points. You can use the same tactic to spend points quickly as well.

2) Enter: mashing it to double time again, navigating only using the keyboard works faster than using the mouse. Provided that you are doing the same transaction over and over again, once you've done it once, hitting enter will advance the UI with the same selections selected. In other words, spam the sh*t out of enter after you've done your transaction once. I've found that hitting enter also speeds how quickly the text gets written onto each page of the UI. So slamming enter 6 times relatively quickly will speed the text for each page and bring you to the next page. There is something wonky going on, too, where it also does two transactions at once if you get going fast enough. Watch your point total increase or decrease twice a you fly through a single transaction (you'll still spend the ammo, so it isn't a dupe)

3) Patience: do it in chunks the real psychological ticket here is that you don't need to convert all ten thousand 10mm ammo into the 34 2mm you are due at once. Do a few loads of laundry ammo at a time when you hit your camp. Eventually you'll get through it all and be in a maintenance mode where you can just dump in 40mm/missiles/arrows at the end of a playing session. That's probably the use cases the devs tested this on, so that experience isn't abysmal.

Good luck out there!
