170s | termites are pretty similar to ants |

177s | termites are very similar to ants in a |
179s | lot of ways but they are a little more |
180s | threatening than your typical ant and we |
183s | thought it was a good progression |
185s | between the the red ants and the black |
188s | ants and now you have these termites |
189s | that are in the upper yard uh we're |
192s | looking for like another ant type that's |
194s | a little bit stronger for the tier three |
197s | and termites kind of fill that goal as |
200s | well as giving us a bunch of other |
201s | opportunities you know like termites are |
203s | known for eating through wood so their |
205s | pincers must be really strong so we can |
207s | use that as like you know the main |
208s | ingredient for a tier three axe and uh |
210s | they create this interesting idea of |
213s | tunneling through wood which is an |
215s | environment we don't have yet when |
217s | people think of insects a lot of times |
220s | they'll think of insect swarms and so |
222s | having another like hive creature that |
224s | that works together |
227s | and bands together um |
229s | and |
230s | will end up fighting you like as a large |
232s | group and it'll call if it's friends |
234s | over and they'll come and fight you as |
235s | well i think that's a great thing to add |
237s | to the game and it's another thing that |
238s | we were looking for you know as we |
241s | progress in the game and go to the the |
243s | sort of |
244s | uh |
245s | later stage more dangerous sections of |
248s | the yard we have a lot of cool ideas |
250s | where we could put termites and one of |
252s | those areas was just um you know what if |
256s | uh wendell was chopping a bunch of logs |
259s | um and stored a bunch of firewood in his |
261s | yard that's something that a lot of |
263s | people do have a big pile of firewood |
265s | the creature that makes most sense to be |
267s | in that kind of environment i think it's |
269s | a termite since they love chewing |
270s | through wood and stuff so |
272s | we wanted a creature that fit that |
274s | environment and that's what we came up |
276s | with we all kind of have ideas on what a |
278s | termite den might look like |
280s | and they look pretty wild and getting |
282s | that fidelity of how the the wood looks |
285s | and how the chewed wood looks um |
288s | you know that that is a challenge for us |
290s | we knew that it would make a great |
292s | dungeon experience if we had |
295s | termites that burrowed into the wood and |
297s | burrowed into the shed somehow you know |
299s | one of the goals as i said um was to |
302s | create a creature |
304s | that used existing rig |
306s | that we could do retargeting um and one |
308s | of the challenges was trying to figure |
310s | that out |
311s | so zack did the |
313s | heavy lifting on that and figured out |
315s | how to you know morph the ant rig into |
318s | the termite |

320s | you want to know what animation |
322s | retargeting is don't you |
325s | damn it i'm a scientist |

330s | but in because i'm perfect |
332s | it's probably something to do with |
334s | taking the skeleton of the aculetta |

359s | we basically modified the ant rig |
361s | the biggest thing we changed was the leg |
364s | proportions and shape so |
366s | that we were able to transfer animations |
368s | over but so a lot of them looked messed |
370s | up so i had to go in and tweak a lot of |
372s | stuff as well but um the worker has like |
374s | this goo spew attack uh that's what |
376s | we're calling goose view at least |
377s | in-house |
378s | um where it just kind of shoots this uh |
381s | goo it has inside it um this is a real |
384s | thing by the way i think uh we did |
385s | research on that but |
387s | it does shoot this goo and i just kind |
389s | of made it look like it's just kind of |
392s | like hocking it up and just like |
394s | shooting it spinning it out at you which |
396s | is kind of a fun |
398s | little thing i did |
400s | well i mentioned that it's like you know |
401s | familiar in |
403s | an ant like but hopefully |
405s | with what we've done it feels pretty |
407s | unique anyway um you know our goal there |
410s | is to kind of wrap the familiarity with |
413s | kind of this new exciting experience so |

422s | how much wood could a termite |
425s | chuck if a termite can chuck wood which |
