[2021] screen freezes but game keeps running in background

what's your GPU/CPU series? When the freeze occurs, were you talking in-game by pressing push-to-talk or doing other things?

There is no error from the video driver. I killed the game resolution and lowered all graphics settings to minimum

Have you fully uninstalled and reinstalled the graphic driver and prevent it from updating?

yes, the game would occasionally freeze up in the invite screen before the game started. this only happened when i closed the steam overlay menu when after i invited someone with the x in the top right corner instead of pressing "return to the game" button in the bottom of the invite screen of steam overlay.

That's...strange... Could you find the log (game installation folder/logfile) with adjacent timestamp and the crash report?(C:/users/username/appdata/local/temp/duoyi/gunfirereborn/crashes)
From my side of testing it works fine.
