Also please note that mouse and keyboard support is only available for online multiplayer. You can access the online multiplayer steam branch by following the instructions in our discord: https://discord.gg/vmxrVKH

Played this at Pax East after hearing about it on a Panel and fell in love with it. Having trouble tinkering around though - I guess I'm a little slow but I wasn't aware an external controller is required. Any ETA on keyboard controls becoming available? What controllers work besides steam controller? (Not sure which one was used at Pax East). Thanks!

Hi Dat_Aim,

Thanks for reporting this issue. Are you using 64-bit Windows 10?
Is your DS4 wired or connected over bluetooth?

I've definitely used DS4s and Xbox One controllers at the same time with XInput disabled so I'm not sure I'll be able to reproduce this issue, but I will try.

Please let me know if you find anything else that will help reproduce the issue.

Thanks!

There seems to be a problem with raw input in the game. (Rewired's fault?)
I'm trying to connect 5+ controllers.
While all controllers I have work fine with xinput, after switching to raw input they cease to function (dual shock 4, Logitech f710 and a couple of direct input ones). Only xbox one controllers keep on working.

Anyone ran into the same issue?
Any work arounds?

Hey night!

Thanks for the suggestions. I have some responses for you:

- The challenge of aiming an analog stick quickly plus the cast time feels too punishing. With the quick running around, twitch aiming with a stick is enough of a skill to work on imo. Only the ult should have a cast time.
I strongly disagree with this. The design of MageQuit is based entirely on anticipation. Eliminating wind up times on most spells would reduce MageQuit to a shallow twitchy action game. Trust me on this one. My first attempt to make this game had no cast times and it felt mindless.

- This seems like a no-brainer to me but this game could be split into 2 modes. The damaged based killing, and a smash like knocking people off/out. Admittedly I don't know exactly how smash works, but many of these ablities already promote just knocking people away without bothering to use focused attacks, and then other skills that allow a quick recovery back to land.

Hello, I talked to you for a while Friday night then never played it until Sat and we never went back into PAX today (this year feels a bit anti-climactic).
But, I played with 3 people and took some notes to share...

- the lava comes in pretty fast. With only 3 people we felt cramped too soon

- lava is... overused? another/more themes would be nice

New Features:
  • ORIGINAL MUSIC BY FAT BARD. It's adaptive and wonderful. Do not miss.
Bug Fixes:
  • Fixed grammar mistakes in spell tooltips. Kind of embarrassing that it took that long.
Adjustments:
  • Added eyes to wizards and smoothed out the hat texture so it's not pixelated.
  • Made the main menu look windy.
  • Refreshed all the logos thoughout the game.

Composer "Fat Bard" is creating an original soundtrack for MageQuit!! Take a listen to what they have so far! We are using FMOD which means the music will be dynamically integrated into the game. The track's intensity will match the intensity of the battle and there will be smooth transitions between scenes. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZRFmPBT0BZo

Yes, that is exactly how it will work. One step further even. You can have multiple controllers on the same PC and then also invite friends to join your "party" (and they can have multiple controllers) before jumping into the public lobby :D

I just posted a small update to get people used to the new "first spell draft" system that I'm going to be using for online multiplayer.
Here's a tweet explaining what I changed :)

Awesome! I'm glad you like the updates :)

I don't think the gold/shop system will work for this game for a couple reasons.
1. If people are playing locally, there won't be enough screen space for everyone to use the shop in a timely manner.
2. The current draft system rewards losing players by letting them draft first (keeping the game closer) whereas the gold/shop system rewards the players that are already winning.

However! I'm currently thinking for online ranked that there will be a build system you set up ahead of time which will include your spell loadout / perks / items / etc. You'll be able to create several loadouts and select which one you want to use before a match. And you'll have to unlock these spells / perks / items by playing the game. Also I'm currently planning to add another 42 spells to the game (6 more elements) so there will be a lot more variety to the game.

Thanks for the ideas!

Thanks for all the ideas :) I like basing the levels on different elements in the game. Right now everything is pretty much lava based, and yes the lava does rise on 4/6 of the stages.

As far as a fixed camera, I could potentially make it so M+K players can only play one player per screen and they get fixed cameras, and players with controllers still get the dynamic camera.

Definitely planning on adding powerups to MageQuit, and all of your powerup ideas are already on my list :)

Thank you for the message! We are currently working on the online multiplayer for MageQuit. I've been racking my brain to figure out how to implement mouse controls with the dynamic camera. Clicking the ground to move is definitely not an option with the camera moving around and zooming. I have some ideas, but I would love to hear your thoughts on this.

Thanks,
-Brett
