Over the last 3 weeks of December I grinded out 8 trophies to get the maximum 3 entries into the finals. I’m an almost exclusively limited player but didn’t mind toughing out the constructed events for the extra finals entries.

Unfortunately my family had prior plans all day on Saturday (event final) but I was determined to get my cube drafts in last night after everyone went to bed.

Ended up slogging to a 4-3 finish with a control deck in my first draft (after several mistakes due to fatigue) and went to bed around 3:00am.

Woke up this morning and barely completed my 2nd draft (also 4-3) at 11:30am which left my 3rd entry token to disappear into the ether. (In hindsight I should have dropped at 4-2 and started the 3rd draft for a better chance at 3 more draft tokens).

I understand it’s my own fault for not making more time for the finals but I find it completely unreasonable for WotC not to extend the finals window to 2-3 days for such a time intensive event (getting to 7 wins in traditional draft can take several hours) with multiple entry chances per individual. Doesn’t seem like it would “cost” them too much to extend an online event and I’m sure a ton of people with other life plans would be extremely grateful.

TLDR: WotC should give us a much longer window of time for the finals of the next Decathlon, or similar event with multiple entries.

My guess is they went for a narrow window because they wanted to be sure the queue was active enough. It would be difficult to know how popular decathalon was going to be, or how many people were going to get to the finals at all (let alone with multiple tokens).

If it turns out there was lots of interest and lots of people who couldn't finish in time, maybe they'll extend it the next time they do something like this.

This is exactly correct. For any event with finite allowed entries, queue health is potentially at risk, especially for the final hours when most entries have been played out. We really weren't sure what to expect with the Decathlon, so the setup was on the conservative side. But the feedback about the length of play vs the event window has certainly been heard.
