With a new card set on the horizon, we've brought back Jay Parker, MTG Arena's new game director, to tell you more about the core features and core set coming to you July 2 with the 0.16.00.00 game update.
Okay, so how exciting can a core set be? It's about the basics, the fundamentals, and ensuring that Magic is fun and accessible to everyone. Also the return of scry lands, Leylines, a new cycle of legendary wedge creatures, one ferocious pup, a really big hammer, and three Chandras (well, there's also the Planeswalker Decks, so make that four Chandras). If you haven't checked out the ...
Read moreWhat is Historic?
"Historic" is what we're calling MTG Arena's non-rotating format. Events or play queues that are Historic will allow for players to use cards from any set currently available on MTG Arena.
Will Historic be an "official" Magic: The Gathering format?
Currently, we only plan to support Historic play on MTG Arena.
Will the Historic play be best-of-one, or best-of-three?
Both!
Outside of Play, will any other events or formats be Historic?
Currently, we intend for most of our casual events (Pauper, Singleton, Momir) to support Historic play.
Will Historic be ranked?
Historic play will not be ranked, and there are currently no plans for it to be a ranked format.
Can I play a Standard deck in the Historic queue?
Yep - as long as the card i...
Read moreRotation is always an exciting time for Magic: The Gathering players and we want to make sure that you're ready to try out some new or updated decks as we explore a new meta. As part of this, there are some changes we'll be making with the Core Set 2020 game update to further help players with their rotation readiness:
:loudspeaker: Effective July 2nd, 2019
What is "rotation"?
Each year, four Magic: The Gathering sets are released and added to Standard. Once per year, when the fall set releases, the four oldest sets in Standard rotate out. This is known as "set rotation" (or rotation for short).
Which sets will be rotating out of Standard?
When the fall set releases, cards from the Ixalan, Rivals of Ixalan, Dominaria and Core Set 2019 sets will rotate out of Standard.
When will rotation happen on MTG Arena?
Rotation will happen when the fall set (code name: "Archery") releases on MTG Arena.
Does rotation mean there will be another reset on Magic: The Gathering Arena?
There are currently no plans to do another account reset on MTG Arena. Players will keep all the cards currently in their collection.
Will I still be ab...

It's not a bug. We change the cards new accounts get from time to time. If you've been playing awhile, you'll have cards your friend didn't get and vice versa. You can use wildcards to get the Gift Pack 2018 cards if you'd like.

@WotC_Lexie:Hi! Posts about the shuffler outside of the mega thread get hidden because it is quite literally the same discussion time and time again. The shuffler has been hashed out many, many times. If you'd like to discuss variance, please do, but take it to the mega thread!Wish You spend as much time updating event schedule as on explaining shuffler. Why is it only even updated every 2 months? Why Omniscience format is still unknown? What's next ranked and trad draft format? It really needs to be updated more often and not only because somebody from the commu...

Sorry foe being direct but it's the only way to be heard by somebody from the inside.

What’s annoying is that it’s not an alt art, it’s a completely different card. You can only have one copy and cannot apply the style to your other copies.
Yeah, that bugs us too. Early versions of alt art had to be extra cards, not styles, because we didn’t have the tech yet. Now we’d kind of like to swap them over to styles, so everything’s consistent, but we run the risk of people getting upset about us changing things they have in their collection.
