do you know how tedious your reporting system is? especially if I have to report a player every other game? Having to leave the game and open a website? Fill out a form, search through my files and upload logs? Can't you have a report button in-match and review the data server side?

I know these players are roping because I can see them highlighting cards just before they start letting the timers run out. They know they're losing so they rope hoping I'd get impatient and concede instead. People are using your lo...

Seriously, the shuffler threads got amalgamated into the mega thread that most of us ignore. Surely it's about time the pointless complaining threads had the same treatment.

Just because your deck doesn't have answers to a certain archetype doesn't mean said archetype is a "no skill" deck. Instead of making a "i hate this deck they always win" post, instead ask "Hey all, what cards should I put in my deck to combat ____?"

Wow! Can we give a shout out to this person for being awesome!
I mean, don't get me wrong, I am SUPER salty when it comes to control decks hahaha. I totally get it... I just don't see the need for every five forum posts to be "I hate ____ deck" without it being an actual constructive discussion. There is zero need to put others down for liking a specific archetype.
(I play the same two decks every day. Neither of those decks handle control well. I have acc...

Introducing: The London Mulligan

For more information, please refer to the London Mulligan announcement.

Starting with the release of Core Set 2020, Magic: The Gathering Arena will be introducing a new mulligan system in all of it's formats: Each time you take a mulligan, you draw seven cards. Once you decide which hand to keep, you must put a number of cards from your hand equal to the number of times you have mulliganed this game on the bottom of your library in the order of your choice. In you mulliganed once, you have to put one card back, etc.

To ensure that everything ...

What's strange is that they haven't implemented a rating system for your opponent. You +1 or -1 them after a game. And you accumulate a rating over time.

Obviously, it's going to get abused and people are going to get -1'd just for the deck they play or whatever, but that's going to be relatively consistent across the player population. Whereas players consistently -1'd for roping are going to have much worse ratings than average, and that's an easy target for the devs to look into as those players get reported.

It's so simple.
I bet you're wrong. I'm sure that hard control and nexus players will have a worse rating than ropers. No one likes this, besides who plays.

^ This. People would NOT use a system like that as it was intended, and that's a lot of extra work for our support team.

That being said, do you think reducing the timer for turn 1 would probably be a good idea? Easy way to speed up the game without losing anything. In almost all cases, that turn should take no more than 5 seconds, so cutting the timer in half or something seems like a win-win.

In s case where you’ve got an experienced player using a deck they’re familiar with, yes turn 1 can & should be quick. But there are lots of cases where that shifts: new players need to read the cards in their hand turn 1, just to see what they do. So might an experienced player drafting an unfamiliar set, or running a new deck that they copied off a list. The other day I took 10-15s to think on turn 1 when my opponent dropped a Mobilized District as their first land (Are they really on a Colorless deck? What’s that list likely to be? What’s my plan against that? etc). And the risks of shortening the time here are harsh; getting auto-passed through turn one and missing your land drop (or getting flustered and playing the wrong land) is a huge setback for the player.

I get that players that tank forever to decide to drop a Mountain are annoying, and I’m not giving up on finding a way to help that, but there’s a lot of splash damage to consider here.

The most common reason for delayed responses like this is that your opponent is still loading in. Once you’re paired, we let whomever loads first into the game, possibly before the other player has. So if there’s a delay here it’s most likely that they’re still loading rather than alt-tabbed.

Hey all, sorry I haven't been around to give a full introduction here. As Lexie says, I've been a bit busy over the last several days. As others upthread have linked, I've been around for a while (since before the initial public reveal), previously leading the cardset team (which is why I was the dev in Arena's announce video for WAR). The new role is a lot of fun, but has also put a lot more on my plate, which hasn't left enough time for jumping in on all the threads (like this one) that need a response. Once I can get things calmed down a bit with the transition I will have more time for that, so expect to see and hear more from me in the future.
