@ElisaItabe I completely agree - which begs the question who has the "merit" to vote on these awards, if not the public? What are the point of awards to begin with? I don't really know.. I wish we could find ways of acknowledging and praising projects in the industry without awards at all.
@day9tv Really looking forward it! I've been playing in both the closed beta and technical stress test and gotta say it was a lot of fun, felt like AoE2 but modernized. Sorta gave me those same feelings I had when first playing Starcraft 2 - a lot is fresh, but that core is still there.
@laynejw @ElisaItabe I think that's as close as you can get, but I always wonder what makes one valid to vote for these things. We can acknowledge a game was hard to make, but game design can be extremely subjective. How do you vote on something like that? I've always disliked this for films too
@laynejw @ElisaItabe Us just being in the industry doesn't feel valid enough for me. I find it hard to feel qualified to judge someone else's art piece and give them an award, no matter my experience. I can give my opinion, but something about the term "award" feels so objective - at least culturally
@laynejw @ElisaItabe I guess at this point I'm more disliking the concept of awards instead of who may or may not be part of the voting process. It will always be imperfect, sure there are ways to get better perspectives but there will inherently be biases in a subjective medium.
@laynejw @ElisaItabe At least with reviews and journalists, there are many, many of them out there to give a wide array of opinions, and the review process feels more personal. It doesn't feel quite the same with awards, and there is usually one set of awards that are most prostigious and valued.
@MossyDeepslate oh yeah all the time, but I also came from this community so it's a little bit part of my life as of right now. I grow out of it every now and then, but luckily with people like Kevin I watch them for other reasons, they just happened to have played Minecraft recently
