14s | I'm your host, dapurplesharpie. Today we have a matchup comprised of |
18s | two established fighting game community competitors and content creators |
23s | paired with some of the strongest players inside of the technical test. |
28s | Let's go ahead and get into it. |
29s | Team 1 is comprised of Team Spooky, who will be using Shaggy, and |
34s | Leviathan, who will be using Velma. |
36s | Team 2 will be comprised of Apologyman, who will be using Tom and Jerry, |
41s | and Brokkr, who will be using Superman. |
45s | Since we got a Superman in the mix today, let's get over to our Superman |
48s | superfan, IFC YipeS, and co-commentator, Ajax. |
55s | Alright, it's time to get into that Multiversus action. |
58s | I'm of course Ajax, joined by the one and only, IFC YipeS. |
61s | And we're going to be talking about the four players who are going to showcase some |
64s | amazing gameplay here for Multiversus today. |
67s | Absolutely man. This man needs no introduction. Spooky, "the Spookster", of course. |
71s | Over at teamspooky on his Twitch channel. |
74s | Streamed the legendary tournaments across the board for many years. |
77s | I would have to say, like 15 plus, even more to be honest. Man I'm dusty. |
80s | But anyway, definitely been showcasing a lot of legendary stuff from the FGC in general. |
85s | And known for being a great competitor too in his respectful game. |
89s | I'm glad to see him here. |
90s | One hundred percent. We respect the foundation that was built before us. |
93s | The ground that we stand on today and part of that, also comes from Leviathan, his teammate. |
97s | One of the best players we have seen from the playtest. |
99s | He has showcased so many incredible combos. So many incredible plays |
103s | and we're going to get everybody to see today. |
105s | And we're going with the theme team. We've got Velma and Shaggy to start things off. |
109s | But on the other side of it, you've got Brokkr and ApologyMan. |
113s | Of course, you know a little something about ApologyMan. |
115s | Yeah, so ApologyMan, you know the greatest meme walking on earth. |
119s | Which is crazy. He likes eating warm milk with cereal. |
123s | This guy is a weirdo, but what's not weird is his gameplay. |
126s | Even though he does play a lot of the oddball characters, of course. |
129s | But that's what makes Vineeth, Vineeth, and of course that is ApologyMan. |
132s | So it's good to see him here and of course been in multiple Top 8s for EVO |
135s | and just won a ton of tournaments on his northern side in California. |
139s | And just everywhere else in the world really. So it's pretty cool to see him here as well. |
143s | And the champion, in his own right, is Brokkr. The best Superman we have seen. |
147s | I know you ready to see this. He's going to be stealing all of the moves that he pulls off. |
150s | All the tech and we're going to be seeing that teamed up with Tom and Jerry. |
154s | That team-up is going to be very strong of a zoner based character and a |
158s | bruiser leading up with a good point control. A lot of armor, |
161s | a lot of zoning going into this match. |
163s | So one thing that I love about Brokkr's Superman is the simple fact that I stole all his tech. |
168s | So when I was actually playing this game, you guys were telling me |
171s | "Hey man, you need to use this guy's reference", I did. |
173s | It definitely showed me a lot. I like the meta that he uses |
176s | where he uses body armor with like forward attack. |
179s | He holds it and if you try to attack, he'll like weave and get a punish and stuff like that |
182s | to a big combo. So I like the meta game behind the armor |
186s | the armor behind his moves. Pretty fire. |
188s | Yeah, it's almost his own form of armordashing, |
190s | the way he does it. It doesn't start in the initial frames, but if you're too scared to |
194s | challenge that because Superman has armor on, everything he's charging |
197s | and you got to hold that. And you might be holding that here as we start things off |
200s | on the first game of Player Showcase #2. |
203s | Let's see how ApologyMan starts his zoning game off. |
205s | He's putting the pressure on you see. Brokkr over on the right trying to |
208s | challenge it, but on the other side of the Red Team, they're going to zone a lot with Velma. |
212s | And Shaggy's going to be taking that point there on the side of Spooky. |
216s | What I love first and foremost, before we even get to the gameplay, |
219s | this just looks like a family barbecue to me. |
221s | This is pretty dope that we're getting to see this. I can't wait for the offline side of things as well. |
225s | I'm pretty excited for this. Look at the Superman. |
227s | We already got the ledge of course. |
230s | and Leviathan just fighting for his life over there. |
233s | Meanwhile Spooky coming in, trying to break it up. |
234s | You always have to watch out for that giant beam that she has because |
238s | she's able to get a weakness buff on you, which increases the damage you take. |
241s | And also she could call the cops. You got to runaway from that. |
244s | Mr. Jenkins is currently on Superman. |
245s | [Both Laughing] |
247s | It's gonna scoop you up. It's going to take you out. |
249s | Brokkr did it right. Stalled away from that and did not get caught. |
253s | Oh my God, alright. Ok, we getting some space here. |
256s | I like how they're holding both of these sides too, but then it get scrambly all of a sudden, |
259s | but I like that though. It looks chaotic, |
261s | but trust me, it makes sense. I promise you. |
264s | Oh nice! Nice up attack. Get the hell out. Get roofed. |
267s | An amazing job right there. And when it comes to chaos, |
270s | chaos control is Tom and Jerry. We talk about the collateral damage. |
273s | Look at the way ApologyMan can challenge that. |
275s | Go for the down air, going all the way up. Catching frying pans to take him out. |
279s | And before you saw how he's in the middle of the entire break. |
281s | That's just what he can do. His hitboxes are great. |
284s | YipeS, Blue Team's got a pretty solid start here. |
288s | Listen, I'm a big fan of Brokkr right now. I like how he knocked him up in the air |
290s | and then went for the neutral attack just to pile some damage on the percentages |
294s | to get the easier knockdown. The knockout. |
296s | And you see what he's doing. A second ago, he was doing the down neutral attack |
299s | into the jump cancel d-air so he could keep the pressure going. |
302s | And he has a projectile shield on him at the moment, but it's gone. |
306s | Meanwhile Spooky going off stage. but because Spooky |
308s | went off stage to try and go challenge the Superman recovery, |
310s | he got caught by the down air from Tom and Jerry. |
313s | Get scooped. Throw him into the laundry chute.. yes? |
316s | uh-huh. Down attack all day. I like that. |
318s | What? That was a game? |
321s | That was the game. These are shared lives. |
323s | They only have four lives in total and the moment that they're gone, that's it. |
326s | That's why you have to be careful. |
327s | You trying to go off stage and help your teammate, you might get cooked for it. |
331s | We talk about the family barbecue, they was cooking. |
333s | And a big reason why was that off stage play. He was canceling off the wall. |
337s | He kept going for down airs over and over again. |
339s | And even if you got by that, ApologyMan's sitting up top waiting for you. |
344s | Listen man, first off that was bars. |
346s | Second, Spooky and Leviathan, they got their gluteus maximus kicked. |
351s | They definitely need to raise that difficulty setting. That was pretty cool though man. |
354s | You know at first, I liked how everybody just scrambles to get that high percentage. |
358s | Just to assess the situation, notice once they're high in the percentage, everything just slows down |
363s | so you can actually catch the gameplay. I see what's going on here. |
366s | I see that everybody has picked very popular pick and everyone has the frost debuff. |
370s | That frost debuff gives you access to slowing people down by hitting them with a projectile. |
375s | When you have Tom and Jerry, you're using that triple dynamite perk to set that up so you can get more |
380s | and what Superman gets to do is come and drop the frost breath |
384s | and get those stacks going quicker so people are moving slow. |
387s | Same strat on the other side too, but it's easier for the Blue Team to set it up. |
393s | Let me get a little more locomotive charge. |
395s | Me playing as Superman, that's not a move you really get to see. |
399s | But I like seeing people get buffed out. That's just me. |
402s | That's a personal favorite. |
403s | It's good too when you have a zoner on your team like that. |
406s | But so many - Look how many debuffs are around this team. |
409s | This would be good if you had a cleanse type archtype on your team |
412s | if you see a Wonderwoman, but it doesn't matter cause Brokkr's swinging. |

419s | Spooky trying to get back down to ground. YipeS, they're struggling. |
423s | Yeah, I know they're struggling, but I'm loving Kalel right now. |
425s | He's getting pressed by Velma. We've found the clues. Call the po-po-police. |

431s | That is the best thing that could happen to him because of the fact that |
434s | the cop is going onto Superman, they could stall. If that was going onto |
437s | Tom and Jerry, that means that they don't get the zone and they get to 2v1 |
441s | the Superman because Tom and Jerry is too busy trying to run away. |
445s | Not for nothing. I can't believe I'm commentating the platformer right now. |

509s | And the slow debuff coming in clutch there for the Red Team over Superman. |
514s | Because Superman wasn't able to fly in quick enough to actually punish with that |
517s | command grab he was looking for. |
518s | Meanwhile, ApologyMan has been stock tanking. He's at 144 running, but |
525s | putting out so many hits that Velma can't really challenge him right now YipeS. |
528s | Bro... Look at Leviathan's movement. This schmovement is just immaculate. |
532s | It's just avoiding all danger. |
534s | Keeping that percentage nice and low. |
536s | Definitely looking for those baits. I see the flu season here. |
539s | Yeah. My goodness, Shaggy's normally so good at being able to challenge people with his |
544s | high priority, using his shield. Especially when he has enrage. |
546s | You can't do that in front of Superman. |
548s | Superman always has a hitbox. This is a 2v1 opportunity though, but they backed off. |
552s | This matters so much. This 2-to-2 can disappear so fast because everybody is getting |
558s | near K.O. percent and they can find that K.O. real soon on Superman. |

565s | I see you Kalel. Smooth movements indeed. The beams, |
569s | I like the movement for the beams. You can snipe with the beam and actually go for an up attack. |
574s | Which is pretty good. You got to catch it though, his snipe if you actually see the reset. |

582s | ApologyMan got caught for one of those forward airs or up air, Spooky was waiting on the |
586s | top to capitalize on the blind psychic. |

595s | -Everybody aiming for Spooky. I would have done the same thing man. |
597s | Smart move there from Brokkr and ApologyMan. |
600s | Big time agree. Now ApologyMan at 108, but Leviathan at 122. |
605s | Oh, if that was a lineup, that could have gotten some damage, but even then |
609s | Superman could scoop you off the top. |
611s | So ou have to be real careful with how jumpy you get up there right now. |
614s | Leviathan almost going to go down. Stalls as much as he can. |
617s | Spooky tries to get away. Leviathan did not have enough resources. |
620s | And the Blue Team goes up two games. |
623s | the cooldown for sure to come back in the match. Yeah, lost all of his moves. Had to wait for |
626s | You know in the heat of the battle sometimes, from experience, I actually forget my cooldown is down |
631s | in terms of using another jump or another move and I'm pretty much cooked. |
634s | And I'm thinking it's like my controller. Looking like "Hey, what's wrong? |
637s | But no, I'm actually using all of my resources. |
639s | First off, they're trying to stretch it out. |
641s | Unfortunately, as a Batman player, I know at all times when my resources are gone, |
644s | because he lets you know that the batarang is not available right now. |
647s | But at least there's that nice little sound cue. |
651s | For Superman, you need that. You need to know how many jumps you've used |
655s | because you have so much mobility, you want to chase someone off stage, |
658s | but then you make a mistake. |
660s | For Velma, she has such minimal vertical recovery, she has to go horizontal. |
664s | And if you have Superman out there with you, you can't jump. |
667s | You're going to get knocked out for that. So it's so scary to get around. |
673s | Yo, I cannot believe I'm seeing Tom and Jerry bro Superman. |

679s | Obviously I've played other platformers before, but this is something that my uncles, |
683s | my grandfather, my father can actually relate to. |

696s | They're not running into fade with anybody but themselves. |

728s | and Superman is wondering what in the world is going on this entire time. |
732s | He's been in enough crossover games with other ones, dealing with this right now. |

844s | It just gives you a different vibe of letting you know that you won. |

849s | Yeah man, you know when you get into the studio, you of all people know, |
852s | when you get that energy going in the studio and they ask you |
855s | "Get energized, get amplified for this set" |
858s | you're having a good time. But incredible set coming in there of course from the Blue Team. Taking it 3-0. |
866s | Man, and that was a fire match between both teams, but you definitely saw who was the real victor here. |
871s | And that was ApologyMan and Brokkr, but let's see exactly how they got their dub with these replays. |
877s | Most dangerous item on the menu is staring down Velma's up air |
881s | when she's trying to make you eat it. |
882s | Coming through there, catching the K.O., |
883s | but one thing is for sure, Brokkr does not waste a single second. |
887s | Closing out that stock immediately, getting the tempo back into favor for the team. |

892s | There was nowhere for Leviathan to go and go help him out. |
894s | Taking a look at this again. He tried to dodge up after the second one, but it was waited out |
899s | and as soon as he tried to go for it, immediately covered, there was nothing he could do. |

904s | 2v2 and you definitely see this in the high display here from ApologyMan and Brokkr. |
909s | It's all about sending them to the air of course with Tom and Jerry with that up attack. |
913s | Of course, the finisher from Superman was definitely the name of the game. |
916s | Of course, we get you out of that ledge, you're in trouble with Superman because |
919s | his frequent flyer miles is on 10. Absolutely there is no buildings in sight, |
923s | but you still see him throwing and whipping through the windows as he usually does. |
927s | Look at that. Get up out of there. Shaggy you're only human. |
932s | Very very nice. Look at that, of course, always knocking |
935s | them up in the air and the finish is right there for Brokkr. Clean. |
938s | Eyes all over the place. Thought process was insane. |
941s | The team synergy was so good between Brokkr and ApologyMan. |
944s | We saw some really good adjustments from Leviathan and Spooky, of course, |
948s | but let's go and get some insight from all of them. |
950s | Let's see exactly how they thought everything down, how they broke down the entire matchup |
955s | and let's go ahead and get those interviews started right now with Sharpie. |
960s | I'm here with Spooky, the fantastic Shagmister inside our last match. |

967s | I'm well, thank you. How are you Sharpie? |
969s | I'm great! Thanks for asking. |
971s | Now, inside of that last set, you were playing Shaggy. |
974s | What about that character made you want to play them? |
977s | So, they designed a character I think to be so simplistic, |
983s | I'm not really someone that plays a lot of platform fighters. |
985s | That's not really my typical style. So I was drawn to him right away. |
988s | Also, I was drawn to him because there was so many memes about this character. |
992s | Everybody wanted to know about Ultra Instinct Shaggy and of course he has the powerup. |
995s | He has the outfit and all that stuff. So that definitely drew me to the character as well. |
999s | How do you feel about the 2v2 team dynamic inside of MultiVersus? |
1004s | Like I said, platformers are not my forte or my strong suit. |
1008s | But I do think that it is interesting that from the jump, they tried implement something |
1013s | that makes it so that you have a reason to work together. |
1015s | And number one is the perks, where if you have certain perks. |
1017s | The triple jump perk right now is a good example. That's one that's very popular |
1020s | where both players get to have an extra jump, just because you can do it. That one's really big. |
1024s | Also, there's the major perks and working together with those, with your partner is a big deal. |
1028s | But also you have some moves that you could use that powerup the other person. |
1032s | So for example, Superman with his breath, |
1034s | not only can he attack the opponent or push them out the way, |
1037s | but he can also powerup like Batman's hands. |
1039s | Now Batman has ice hands to come rock you up. That type of thing. So I like that aspect a lot too. |
1043s | Now, inside of the game, we saw that you go through a series of different perks. |
1047s | Most notably, the third jump perk. |
1051s | Did you have any thought process behind that or any of the other perks that you and your teammate chose? |
1056s | I will say, that some of the debuff perks, since perks stack some of them. |
1060s | So when you and your partner both have them, some of the debuff perks look really interesting. |
1064s | Especially the ice perks and the fire perks. |
1066s | I'm not sure how much of that type of damage can really stack up over time. |
1069s | But, I would say that the status effects are not really something that I'm used to in a fighting game. |
1073s | In general, right? So something that's very itneresting. |
1076s | Are you excited to experiment with any different characters or any team compositions? |
1080s | Or even any crazy debuffs inside of the game? |
1084s | Maybe I'm most interested in the stages and how they are designed. |
1088s | You have a lot of stages like the Treehouse, where it has a very unique |
1091s | width that you can bounce someone off the tree and maybe if you get them |
1093s | just the right angle, you might be able to go for like an early kill off the bottom. |
1096s | Something like that. So those are the things that I would probably want to do the most research |
1100s | and even considering things like, well if we have these perks, |
1103s | and this stage comes up on the roulette, then we can make this happen. |
1106s | That's some of the stuff I'm most interested in. |
1109s | Now Spooky, do you have any words for the fans who are eagerly anticipating the release of MultiVersus? |
1116s | I would say that right now the game looks very exciting. |
1119s | It has a very cool platforming style. |
1121s | It has excellent movement. That's one of the things that really drew me to it the most. |
1124s | And if you guys are excited, well you know what, I was really excited once I got to play it. |
1127s | And I hope that you guys will enjoy it once it comes out. |

1151s | Inside of the last set, you were actually using Velma. |
1155s | What was it about that character that made you pick them? |
1161s | Velma's very supportive of her team and I feel like she's one of those characters |
1165s | with a lot of supportive themes to kinda help the team get ahead. |
1169s | And score K.Os and ring outs very easily deciding on how you set up for them. |
1174s | What other characters are interesting to you? |
1177s | I believe that a lot of the mage characters, such as Raindog, Bugs Bunny, |
1181s | all have interesting ways of playing around the field and generally helping out their teammate. |
1188s | Now, is that one of the reason why you like the mages, |
1191s | because they're able to help out with their teammates the most? |
1194s | Yes, they feel like they can pretty much deal with anything from most ranges. |

1203s | Yeah, of course. Sure. |
1205s | How do you feel about the 2v2 dynamic in MultiVersus? |
1209s | The twos feel pretty tight-knit. |
1212s | I feel like at all times, with my teammate, I have to either look at them or always rely on them |
1221s | because they have so many aspects of which they |
1223s | can assist me and so many aspects in which I can assist them. |
1226s | So everytime that I feel like I'm in disadvantage, I also have to check what advantage |
1232s | or what state of play my teammate is in. |
1234s | Speaking of teammates, you were teamed with Spooky, who is actually using Shaggy. |
1239s | What was the team synergy behind your character choices? |
1243s | A lot of it was that, you know as Velma, I can kind of dish out a lot of damage, |
1248s | dish out a lot of debuffs, etc. from about a further range from what Spooky can deal with, or Shaggy, to be specific. |
1257s | And Shaggy, whenever he makes his way in, he gets his charge. |
1260s | He can pretty much K.O, ring out my opponents, set up for kills pretty easily. |
1265s | Do you have any reason behind the perks that you and Spooky chose? |
1270s | The frost perk actually slows down my opponents, helping me set up or play my bit of range |
1277s | without worrying about burst options or my opponent showing up out of nowhere. |

1352s | Brokkr, for this set, you were playing Superman. What about that character made you pick them? |
1359s | First of all, hello, thank you for having me and nice job saying my name. |
1363s | Excellent. Superman really appeals to me because he has, to me, the best freedom of movement. |
1371s | So, I'm able to kinda just go where I want to. |
1375s | I see somewhere I want to hit, I'm there, in less than a second. |
1378s | As long as you can master that. So that's what's really appealing to me about him. |
1382s | Now, Brokkr, how do you like the 2v2 dynamic in MultiVersus? |
1388s | The 2v2 is just some of the most well designed that I've witnessed. |
1393s | For instance, me and Apologyman were talking about our strategies and stuff, |
1398s | but we were able to follow-up super well just off of the Tom and Jerry attack into a Superman attack. |
1405s | All these characters have these synergies that you discover, like oh how? |
1409s | I had no idea that Tom and Jerry's frying pan into Superman up grab, up air |
1413s | was so effective until you discover it. |
1416s | So, that's what's really exciting about those two, is finding the different combinations. |
1419s | Was there any other team synergy that went behind the thought for your team's characters? |
1425s | For the characters, not so much. I think we just picked who we liked. |
1429s | But for like perks, we had some discussions on what the best perks were. |
1434s | Superman has ice breath, so if we get the frost projectile, we're going to be able to actually get freezes. |
1440s | So that worked out pretty well. |
1444s | Just different strategies, like I remember we were going to rush down Velma. |
1447s | We're going to use you to zone off dynamite wall to prevent Shaggy from coming in. |
1450s | We're going to beat up Velma, right? |
1453s | So, you consider all the tools, you can mix up some cool strategies like that. |
1457s | You all played so amazingly that last set. |
1461s | What do you think that you and ApologyMan did better than your opponents in those matches? |
1466s | Honestly, I think a big strength of ours on our comp was the isolating them at ledge. |
1473s | So every time someone was at ledge, |
1476s | I would kinda let ApologyMan take the edge guarding situation. |
1479s | He'd spam the frying pan and I'd keep the other person off. |
1482s | Got so many, so many lives like that. |
1485s | So that was a really good combo. |
1488s | So Brokkr, how excited are you to experiment with |
1491s | different team compositions and different characters inside of the game? |
1495s | Oh, that's what I'm going to do as soon as I'm able to. |
1497s | Right after this. I mean that's one of the coolest things that they actually - |
1503s | There's a new Shaggy move. I didn't see it used too often this set, but |
1507s | the neutral beam, whenever you have rage, it'll teleport you to the nearest ally. |
1512s | So many cool combinations with that just opened up, just for a simple move like that being added. |
1518s | So there's a lot of cool stuff that whenever you're playing, you're like |
1520s | "Oh, I wonder how that would work with that". |
1522s | So I can take it then that you're relatively excited for the MultiVersus release? |
1527s | Oh, of course, oh my gosh. Counting the days. Counting the days to the next open beta. |

1552s | I'm doing good. I'm doing good. I'm having a lot of fun playing this game. |
1556s | Tom and Jerry easily my favorite character. But yeah, I'm doing great. All is good. |
1560s | Now, I know you played the dynamic duo, Tom and Jerry, inside of these sets. |
1565s | Now, why did you choose Tom and Jerry? |
1568s | I mean, I always like characters that have a ton of different - |
1572s | Just depth in general. They have so many different set ups and like so many different projectile, |
1579s | like zoning patterns that you can do. |
1582s | You can throw Jerry over there and make the rocket go to him |
1586s | and you could throw the dynamite at them. |
1588s | There's all this fun stuff you can do and I feel like I barely scratched the surface with the characters. |
1592s | So he's definitely my favorite character of like the cast that i've played so far. |
1596s | How do you like the 2v2 team dynamic inside of MultiVersus? |
1600s | So, it was definitely weird at first to get used to. |
1602s | I'm mostly a fighting game player, so its 1v1, right? |
1605s | So, I definitely had - there was some growing pains with it, but a cool thing about it is like |
1611s | it's really easy to learn the game with a friend as well. |
1616s | There's times where I'm like "Oh man, I don't know what I'm doing wrong" |
1619s | and in a fighting game, you're just kinda like "Well I guess I'll review the VOD" |
1623s | or "I'll think about something", right? |
1625s | But your teammate can be like "Bro, you're just doing this" and I think that's cool. |
1629s | I think that helped my improvement a lot for the game when I played it before. |
1632s | So I like it. The game is clearly designed for the doubles, the team game format. |
1640s | How excited are you to further experiment with different characters and team compositions? |
1645s | I'm definitely interested in finding more team compositions. For sure. |
1648s | I think that draws me the most. Finding the right perks and finding the right ways to counteract. |
1655s | Because all the characters in this game are so crazy. |
1658s | I think playing, it's pretty simple to pick up the game and play the characters, |
1662s | but all the characters' abilities are insane. |
1665s | There's so many things you can do with them and how they interact with each other is really interesting. |
1670s | I don't know, for me, once again, I'm such a character driven dude. |
1673s | If I find my character, I'm set and I love Tom and Jerry. |
1677s | So I'm going to be excited for the full release of the game. |
