18s with Patrick or season's design lead and
20s James a narrative designer on the team
21s we're going to do a deep dive on season
24s two today uh so let's start with you
26s Patrick give us a little overview of the
27s theme of the Season yeah so season two
29s is blood of the Sands we're taking
31s players back to Brimstone uh we're
33s building on everything we did with
34s season one but doubling down on a lot of
36s that so you're going to be running
37s around Brimstone Sands searching for
39s these relics and we're really tying into
41s that sandworm theme throughout the whole
43s season you see that in the narrative in
44s our season event the season pass and
47s it'll get you really ready to go fight
48s this and worm sounds pretty awesome tell
50s us a little bit James about the
52s inspiration of the narrative and what's
53s all about yeah well believe it or not
55s this all started with a lore note about
58s the blood of the sand sect and
60s um originally we were thinking of these
62s would be like June Raiders kind of you
64s know and they had like they all had like
66s red regalia that they wore and like
69s um an outsider was sort of watching them
71s and like watching them interact with the
73s sand worm uh in a kind of crazy way
76s um and uh as we dug into the idea of
80s that like we're like hey there's
81s something there about the blood of the
83s sansect and like having a relationship
85s with these worms
87s um and as we dug into it more like we're
89s like you know the interesting part is
90s like hey there's one sand worm now like
92s so what happened and then like what are
94s the big Stakes because like I think
96s that's one of the things we wanted to do
98s is go really big with this season like
100s summer blockbuster feeling so
102s um what kind of big Stakes could we have
104s with with the sand worms and like well
105s there's one now and that's super
106s destructive already so like what if
108s there's like someone who's wanting to
109s unleash dozens of them or hundreds of
111s them on eternum
113s um and so that's that's kind of where
114s things started um and I think we we all
117s dug in like we're got into the idea of
119s like you know what happened to the worms
122s like why have they been dormant for
123s Millennia the idea was like if they're
125s the big threat then is like that you
128s know someone maybe someone uh from this
130s sect was trying to revive the sand worms
133s and unleash you know dozens if not
134s hundreds of them on eternum and
137s originally we were thinking like maybe
138s there was a faction split or something
140s like that but then we realized that like
141s you know maybe someone you know this
143s Clan has been dormant along with the
145s worms for like thousands of years why is
147s there only one worm left
149s um or or that has reawoken
152s um and started digging into the lore of
154s that and the idea that maybe someone's
156s been trying to revive the clan
159s um the the blood of the sansect that's
161s cool yeah I love that we went a little
163s more epic with this season is that
165s something intentional Patrick yeah
166s absolutely uh so like James said we kind
168s of went for this big summer blockbuster
170s style questline a lot of you know
173s explosions running from Sand worms
175s chasing you all that uh and a large part
177s of that is the enemies you're gonna
179s fight in the quest line so we heard the
180s feedback pretty loud and clear from
182s season one that the faceless fight could
183s have used some improvements and uh the
185s way we're tackling that is by instancing
187s those encounters so there's two big
188s Encounters this quest line both are
191s instanced and both have his epic
192s grandiose feel and uh the second
195s instance has probably one of my favorite
197s cinematics in the game which is all I'll
199s say on that cool let's dig into the
201s actual uh features and mechanics of the
203s season so there's three big things this
205s season there's the narrative like we had
206s last season or War track and then
208s something new we'll talk about the
209s season trial let's start with the
211s narrative uh James tell me a little bit
212s about like what are some of the
213s highlights or what are your favorite
214s parts of the narrative obviously without
216s any spoilers for people watching yeah
219s well you know um as Patrick said like
221s one of our big goals was to to go epic
224s with it so I think just overall like I
226s think players are going to really love
227s the art and like the the space is like
229s they're all there's like a lot of new
231s feeling spaces a lot of new things that
233s they're going to enjoy
235s um like that it's it's very much like um
237s I want to say like an Indiana Jones
239s Adventure across the desert
241s um so I love that that vibe that that we
244s went with and you know like personally I
246s like I like the I like the uh the small
248s stories as well like you know where it's
250s more relationship driven and like you
252s know sky in season one and having that
254s you know sort of Revenge plot against
257s faceless and the things that were taken
259s from her and trying to get it back and
261s you know her relationship and what
263s happened with her her lover
266s um but like we also dig like the big you
269s know action Adventures uh which is what
271s this turned out too it's really great
273s um so that's one the second is
275s um you know we heard uh good feedback
276s from the players on the silver crows
278s they really dig them you know they love
280s Grace of course
281s um dog picked up an interesting big
284s following like for having like the least
286s lines of all the other characters
289s um so we are adding a new Crow
292s um this season and uh she's awesome uh
295s you know I'll spoil the fact that she is
297s a Bard
298s um so you gotta have a Bard in your crew
299s right a little music yeah exactly
303s um and the third thing you know like and
305s Patrick mentioned it is that like we got
307s good feedback on the cutscenes that we
309s were you sort of introducing in season
312s one I think players really like that so
314s we leaned in really heavy there and I
316s think there's like at least two
318s cutscenes that came out super nice and
320s really we're really happy with yeah and
322s the other piece there's the rewards you
323s get from this quest line uh it really
325s sets you up nicely to go and take on the
327s same worm when you're ready for that so
329s I think we took Extra Care to really
331s theme those rewards around that
332s encounter and make sure that players are
334s ready to go once they're done with the
335s questline would you say it's like sort
336s of like a beastly encounter with a
338s beastly encounter a lot of beastboard
342s all right well let's jump into the
344s reward track a little bit sure uh
346s Patrick any changes especially around
348s progression for the reward track that
349s player should be ready for yeah so we've
351s been taking a look at the season one
352s data and it took a little longer to hit
355s that level 100 than we would have liked
356s so with season two we went in and
358s optimized the journey uh what that meant
360s is we really made sure there's a strong
362s solo pad that every single chapter so
364s season one had that solo path but it
365s might have been a little more difficult
367s at some chapters season two we added
369s extra Journey tasks where we needed to
371s to make sure that you could get through
372s that Journey without really doing
374s content that might push you out of your
376s comfort zone so chapters two four and
378s five all have additional tasks added to
380s them and we also rebalance the
381s experience in the journey so it's going
383s to provide you a good chunk more
384s experience than season one so it'll get
386s get you even deeper into your season
388s pass then we also added new activities
390s for season two so those are largely
392s themed around Brimstone you're gonna go
394s you know squish five scorpions go gather
396s some Prisma blooms uh any
399s typical thing you might do in Brimstone
400s so pretty happy with how that's come out
402s and hopefully players find all those
404s easier to progress and more rewarding
406s awesome and how about on the reward side
408s of the reward track any changes there
410s well you know I did drop the fact that
411s this is uh you know you do get some
414s beastly good rewards out
417s um so we get we do prep the players
419s um for you know what's to come like the
421s type of fights to come and um they'll be
424s any other uh like little hits on the
427s reward track we might sprinkle a few
429s transmog tokens that's what I think the
431s players wanted to hear yeah all right
433s well let's talk about the the latest and
436s newest feature here seasonal trials so
438s actually let's start with you James tell
440s me a little bit about the sort of the
441s lore and the story of the seasonal trial
442s before trip into the mechanics yeah no
444s worries so the along the quest line the
446s player finds out that there's a group of
448s uh of people that are trying to that
451s have found an ancient chamber that was
453s used to actually hatch these these sand
455s worms um and of course they naturally
457s hatch in the desert but
459s um back in the day you know the the
461s ancient blood of the sansek had used
463s this originally to they they really
465s revered the worms and so this is where
468s they um helped uh keep the perfect
471s conditions for hatching eggs
473s um and sort of communing if you will
475s like there was there's some lore that
477s says that like they were actually able
479s to sort of talk to the worms at some
481s level so this is where they sort of like
483s communed with the worms and like took
485s care of their their eggs and so forth
486s but there's a new group that's come in
488s and they're sort of you know perverting
491s the old practices and wanting to control
494s hatch and control the worms
497s um for their own nefarious reasons and
500s then tell us a little bit about like
501s what's the mechanic of this how does it
503s play out tell us yeah so season trials
505s uh at the core their 10 player instance
507s encounters so it's a it's a wave-based
509s encounter so there's going to be three
511s waves of fodder enemies you go in uh
513s they escalate in difficulty as you fight
514s them and then eventually you reach the
516s mini boss The Horde master
517s uh he uses a hatchet and he summons
519s these flame grunts that players need to
521s control and manage if they don't kill
523s the flame grunts then they're going to
525s jump into these lava pools and come out
527s reforged bigger better dealing more
529s damage they're going to be very
530s difficult for you to deal with
531s uh once you slay the word master or if
533s you slay The Horde Master you move on to
535s a hadishazar the keeper of flame this is
537s a boss that utilizes a lot of crowd
540s control mechanics and positioning so
542s players need to navigate around the
543s arena put out fires avoid waves of fire
546s that crash down on them and
549s kill a living bomb that might Target one
551s of your team members and might wipe the
553s entire raid if you don't deal with that
554s so bring a bow or two
555s the entire trial came out pretty good
558s it's very fun to fight through it's very
560s quick which is nice and our goal there
562s was that this is a nice foil to the sand
564s worm sand worm is a challenging
565s encounter or you need 20 people who know
567s what they're doing and are coordinated
568s to take it down with the hatch rate it's
570s an easier encounter you can find nine
572s other strangers take this on and get
573s your rewards so hop in do the encounter
576s hop out uh you know more casual friendly
579s nice and in terms of like length so you
582s said it's super quick
584s Target time was about 15 to 20 minutes
586s so I'm sure our speedrunners out there
587s will optimize that time and get that
589s down but excited to see where they land
591s yeah I think that's a great place for it
592s right yeah give players something they
594s can do sort of more bite-sized and this
596s will use the new raid group
597s functionality because we'll use Raid
598s group yep awesome uh any other sort of
601s uh things coming out with the season
602s that you want to highlight before we
603s call yeah during season two players get
606s to re-engage with the summer medley fair
607s so that'll be coming back very fun
609s holiday that I love fishing up the
611s eternum sturgeon and we also added a new
612s song called yah which is a very very
615s difficult uh if you perfect that you get
617s the Guitar Hero title which is exciting
619s and then we also have the season two
621s event which is Siege of sulfur so those
624s sandwich Megs we've talked so much about
626s they're gonna appear up in the world a
628s dune Walker is transporting them and his
629s cart breaks down and if you help him
631s defend his eggs he will give you some
633s great beastboard gear to compensate that
635s and maybe a fun hat I like that uh
