[2022] Suggestion for hermit start

I saw that a ocean start is possible and I wanted to see if a "sea block challenge" could be possible. Problem is that whatever I try my hermit dies of hunger. Can't butcher crabs (no cooking tome or possibly to cook anything to get the tome). Farming is out of the question (all stone and no seeds) and even if I could dig down to a cave I can't plant the mushrooms.

So I would like to suggest maybe giving the hermit start a fishing pole, so there is a source of food on a ocean start.
