42s amount of effort and creativity the
44s teams put into
45s into the game jam and stuff can't wait
47s to just see it all
49s showing off i guess on this stream
54s yeah we've got some very exciting stuff

60s there's tons of stuff in there so i'd uh
62s recommend going back to it after the
64s stream but for now uh yeah what we doing
66s here today game jam
68s it's a cool thing first time we've ever
70s done it um a bit of a different thing
73s from ideation um but before we get into
75s why we've done it and what that means
77s let's go for a couple of announcements
79s uh so first off we've got exclamation
81s mark game update uh we've updated some
83s of our the items in our equipment
85s rebalancing effort this week as well as
87s the long awaited update from poll 76 for

99s then the team has been hard at work to

172s no play created content today because
173s there's plenty of content being made
176s during the game jan so uh before we
179s start i'm sure some of you are wondering
181s what is game jam i don't know karen if
183s you want to take it away
186s what is game jam
188s well
189s it is a natural development from what we
191s used to do which just called ideation
194s but what the hell is it you might not
196s even know what ideation was
198s so the game jam was a week that we took
200s out of our usual sort of development
202s schedule
204s with the direct
206s focus of just experimenting
209s creating ideating coming with new ideas
212s that could work for old school runescape
215s basically we let the team sort of run
217s wild with their ideas spend the week
219s building designs building new prototypes
222s coming up with new concepts
225s it was pretty amazing to see it all
227s happen like people formed different
229s groups and little teams didn't
231s work together a lot of people were in
233s the office for it as well which is not
234s something obviously we've seen a lot of
236s people in the office for a while so that
238s was quite fun as well
240s um
240s but yeah it was a huge it was a hugely
243s amazing week to be honest i still see
245s the energy and
247s that just went on in in the old school
249s team um
251s so what we got out of that was a whole
252s ton of different proposals for different
255s types of content
257s from
258s you know and you're going to see a bunch
259s of it today the wild and wonderful ideas
261s completely outside the box and some of
263s them i think i i know for sure are going
265s to be dead certain
266s that they're going to be popular of the
268s community
269s but
270s it's worth saying at this point
272s just to emphasize these are just that
274s they're just ideas at the minute they're
277s all potential updates but they're not
279s something that we're sort of saying yes
280s we are going to offer this and deliver
282s it
284s this is a way that we want to get the
285s community involved because we want to
287s know which do you like most you know
289s which ones do well which ones do you
291s like the sound of and that'll be very
293s useful information for us as well when
295s it comes to us working out but what
296s projects do we want to put on the
298s scheduled feature
299s there might be one of these for instance
301s this is one of our ways where we're
303s going to be using the team also to come
305s up with future ideas that can go into
307s the schedule so
308s we view it something that can hopefully
310s be quite important to old school's
312s schedule going forward as well
314s but yeah just emphasize these are not
316s all promises that all these projects are
318s coming in the near future
320s um
321s but
322s given that this is a big event for the
323s team we do really feel like we want to
326s get the community involved so much like
328s the good the gill and our gazette's
329s already gone out we want to do these
331s streams
332s hopefully every time we do a game jam
333s and we're kind of expecting to do maybe
335s at least two game jams a year
337s that's the plan at the minute
340s any immediate questions stanley um
343s on that answer anything to add
345s no i think i think that was a very very
347s uh good summary of what we want to do
349s where we want to go with it and like you
351s said just to echo what you say it was
353s amazing seeing and it wasn't just like
355s you know the core dev team coming
356s involved there was teams from across old
359s school coming together you know
360s and it was it was really nice to see
362s just people jumping in head first to
364s something that we've never really done
366s before in this scale
368s um so yeah very very amazing stuff and
371s i'm i'm already looking forward to the
372s next one
374s to be honest so uh
376s so i mean without that uh with that out
379s the way i suppose we should jump
380s straight into the very first uh game jam
384s uh idea uh just to preface uh there are
388s a couple of ideas that we're keeping to
390s ourselves for now
391s um maybe you'll get some more details on
394s that in the near future but um for now
396s let's have a look at the very first one
399s which is uh from everyone's best friend
402s uh from varrock
403s uh the dogs of gilenore so if we welcome
406s modern oasis

415s best friend mod oasis i thought that's a
417s very kind thing to say sonny but okay
421s i mean you're my best friend you're my
423s best friend oasis i'm sure you're many

426s as well so
427s but there is a dog on the screen so like
429s i'm already skewed a little bit so you
431s know
433s a very cute dog pretty much what i
434s expected of so far like i expected
436s you're not even gonna need to present
437s anything the chat she's gonna say vote
439s yes before we've even started
443s that's easy there's so many put yourself
446s yeah i can see so many dogs in the chat
447s already it's already it's already begun
449s so i mean without further ado oasis i
452s suppose we should let you take it away
454s sure um
456s so yeah dogs of gilano
458s uh i'll probably tell i should tell you
460s a bit more information than just that
461s and kind of sell the idea a little bit
463s more um so let's start with the premise
466s there's a little bit more to it than
467s just having dogs of course we're gonna
468s have dogs um
471s it's really important to go into
473s everything
474s that you design kind of as an old school
476s designer with like what do you want this
478s content to be and
479s uh what are its restrictions and kind of
482s stuff like that um so this is what we've
484s we've thought about going into
487s we want to give every player a furry
489s companion that you can build everlasting
491s memories with
492s um
494s i say
495s that extra bit on the end because we
496s want them to be more than just like cats
498s in game because cats are pretty boring i
501s mean they're pretty boring in real life
502s no matter how cute they are they don't
503s do much
512s um so to accompany it we also want to
516s include a quest uh that involves the
518s stray dog because of course we have to
521s include the stray dog in a in a dogs of
523s guillermo update
525s um
527s then the whole premise is once you've
528s completed the quest you'll have a dog
530s that you can raise and train
533s and it starts out as a little puppy and
534s they're very small and grows all the way
537s up into a full-sized dog as you can see
539s on the gif uh i have a labrador
541s following me
542s um
543s and and at the bottom uh the reason i
546s kind of wanted to jump on this project
548s and got a team going is because players
550s have always been asking to have dogs in
552s the game
555s ever since like the christmas update in
558s 2020 or 2019 where i let you pet the
561s stray dog
562s it's been non-stop so i thought that was
564s the perfect time to do it
567s so
569s a
570s little little glimpse into our kind of
572s how we do it behind the scenes as
574s designers
576s we established something called design
577s pillars which which guide us in what we
580s do and why we do certain things for
581s content and the four we had here were to
584s allow players to build connect personal
586s connections and connect with their dog
588s i really love making memorable
590s interactions in games uh and in old
593s school so if you can step away from you
595s know after you've got your dog and you
596s feel connected to it uh it'd be awesome
600s um create an expandable framework for
602s future updates and dog breeds so you
604s guys want more dogs we'll bring you more
606s dogs uh and build a place in old school
608s that reaches past the initial cute
610s factor because let's be real dog's gonna
613s be amazing on launch because everyone's
614s gonna be like they're gonna be so cute
616s and we don't want that to fizzle out
617s over time we want them to stick around
619s and keep
620s keep
621s give them a reason to stick around
624s and then build up on the cat framework
625s and learn from its pitfalls which is an
627s interesting one cats are a bit bland so
630s we wanted to do a bit more and i'll talk
632s a bit more about that one later on
634s um
636s so
637s let's jump into the quest uh like i said
639s before it starts off with uh the stray
641s dog and it it wouldn't make sense to
643s start in any other way than you petting
645s the stray dog
647s and it all kicks off from there so the
649s stray dog in in
651s west vero has had a litter of puppies
654s uh and because you're such a kind
656s adventurer who would never shoot away
658s the dog
659s it it kind of takes you over there and
662s kind of hints to you that they want you
664s to take care of the puppies
667s and thankfully there's a new monitor the
669s monastery
670s east of ice mountain
672s has that has opened a shelter for dogs
675s um so you work your way over there you
677s ask a few people where you should take
678s the dogs maybe gertrude uh and they take
681s him over there and the monks like
683s sure great thanks uh we'll take the
685s puppies um but we're we're a little bit
688s overloaded at the moment because
689s everyone wants to adopt a puppy and
690s there's so many there they're like
693s do you want to take one with you um and
695s then that kind of springboards into a uh
698s it's like a co-op puzzle quest where you
701s have to work with your puppy uh to solve
704s like little puzzles and go out on like a
706s rescue mission
707s um
708s to rescue another dog that's like stuck
710s somewhere uh so you get build that
713s little bond with your with your with
714s your canine companion your little puppy
717s um
718s so like guiding it through a maze of
719s treats and stuff like that uh just to
722s make it like fun and memorable
724s um and then after that we jump into the
727s rewards so of course
729s the first reward you'll get is the
731s continued ownership of that stray dog
733s puppy which is kind of like a no breed
736s dog like the stray dog doesn't really
738s have a breed so we follow up on that um
741s but you can also rename it and we
743s thought it'd be really important for
744s this content for you to really
746s cement your real life dog into the game
749s so having you being able to rename your
751s puppy and and say if you've got a puppy
754s called like bubba for example or a dog
756s called bubba in real life you can get uh
759s you can get a dog in old school and
760s rename it to that and it follows you
762s everywhere so you can go on adventures
764s with your real life dog
765s um
766s and then we'll give you a bit of
768s experience of course it comes with the
769s quest and the quest point like we always
771s do and then the biggest part of it
774s is the access to the mission board
776s rescue mission board afterwards
778s uh and this was my idea to allow future
781s expansion for um
784s for new breeds without having to just be
786s like plonk them in here's a new breed
787s off you go so in order to get a new
789s breed you have to go out on a pretty
792s small rescue mission so i don't know
794s maybe a
795s a dog in mauritania has broken its leg
800s which is a bit sad uh you have to go
801s rescue it and bring it back to the
803s monastery nurse it back to health a
804s little bit and then you get a an access
807s to that a puppy of that breed
809s um which can keep we can just expand on
811s that expand and like build in more
813s breeds and more puppies and stuff like
814s that
816s because
817s we can only do so much at launch and
819s there's going to be so many more breeds
820s that players are going to want anyway so
822s we have to keep building a building so
824s we want to have we want to make sure
825s everyone can kind of have access to a
827s breed they really like um if not the
830s perfect one
832s and then the final one a little snack
833s that lets you transform the dog into an
835s alternative breed so if you don't want
837s to retrain it from a puppy and go
839s through that process which
840s is not based anymore it's it's much more
843s action based
845s you can just transform it over
847s so speaking of breeds
849s uh probably the most important part of
851s this whole pitch
852s uh is the wide variety of breeds we
855s managed to get done in the first week
857s um so we've got the original dogs that
860s came out in like 2008 with the summoning
863s update um
865s so we've pulled those back into in we've
867s pulled them into old school
869s and we've given them a bit of a recolor
872s uh thanks to mod skylark for that
875s and then she's also spent some time
876s making a whole bunch of new breeds so
878s we've got corgis um
880s that dog
882s huskies
883s shiva that's the name of it uh beagles
886s pugs and then the the stray dog if you
888s wanted the stray dog breed itself
890s um
891s and then yeah that's the idea like we
893s keep building up
894s um and it was surprisingly easy to plug
897s hug plug all these dogs into the game uh
900s so you can see their little puppy
902s versions down at the bottom of the
903s screen uh they're so small and cute and
906s then we've got the adult versions behind
907s it um
909s so like in terms of like pets you could
911s take and like put into your poh and they
913s follow you around that's all like
915s good to go
917s um
918s so
919s uh on to the next one so like i said
922s before cats are a little bit um
925s a little bit lame to be honest in old
927s school so we wanted to push it a bit
929s further
930s um and the growth cycle on cats is a bit
932s of a bit of a pain do you want us to try
935s something different um dogs can actually
938s do stuff in the world uh and and i'll
940s explain those a little bit later we have
941s them digging and fetching
944s um but we've also what we're thinking is
946s every time your dog does something good
948s like they they dig up a clue casket for
951s you you can reward them with a treat and
954s then that increments that like that
956s grows the dog a little bit if you do it
958s enough times the dog grows into the
961s puppy grows into a full-size dog and you
963s can take it out with you in the wild and
965s you've got a full-size dog but if you
966s wanted it to stay as a puppy you just
968s don't have to like reward it's good
970s behavior basically um so you have the
973s option to have a puppy or a full-sized
975s dog
976s and there's not much like functionality
978s difference between them
979s whatever a puppy can do an adult can do
982s if i'm remembering that correctly um
984s it's all up to you whether you whether
986s you want to grow up or not um so talking
989s about on that expansion we thought let's
991s chuck in a couple of interesting things
994s so we'd have the puppy or the dog act
997s like a spade
1000s um
1001s primarily for clue scrolls so instead of
1003s having a spade in your inventory you can
1005s take your dog along with you and they'll
1006s do the digging for you instead uh you
1008s can just click on them uh dig and
1010s they'll dig in that spot
1012s um and then another fun one like um
1016s like an afk kind of training method for
1018s your dog uh is you could play fetch of
1020s it so you chuck a ball out uh you say
1022s fetch and the dog runs off and then they
1023s bring it back to you
1025s um so
1026s in my head i pictured after this game
1028s comes out hundreds of players flocking
1030s to a random field in olds in gilano and
1033s just playing fetch with their dogs
1036s and then you know after a couple of
1037s months go by it'd be quite nice just
1039s walking past and you seeing someone
1040s training their puppy by playing fetch
1043s that would be very cute and i don't
1044s think it and i think it's impossible to
1046s disagree with
1047s um
1049s and to take it another step further
1052s we're thinking could we attach like
1053s personalities to dogs we don't want them
1056s helping you in combat because that's a
1057s step too far um but what if you were in
1060s a fight and your dog could do like a
1062s couple things they could fight in your
1064s corner and they could be barking away at
1066s the enemy and growling and trying to get
1068s a bite in but not actually getting a
1070s bite in or they could be cowardly and
1072s they could be really scared
1074s uh and they tried to get away from the
1075s fight but you know they can they have to
1077s stay with you
1078s or they just stand there and just like i
1079s don't really care what's going on um we
1082s thought that'd be like a fun way to just
1084s add a little bit more personality to
1085s each of the pets um and to add a little
1087s bit more flavor
1089s and that would kind of be random but
1090s we're thinking there'd be some ways for
1092s you to re-roll that so if your dog in
1094s real life is like really brave or
1096s cowardly you could turn them into that
1098s by like training or something like that
1101s and then that gets reflected in game
1104s this is a tiny little tech demo
1107s it old school is actually really hard to
1110s like save a string a save like a name
1112s between log outs uh
1115s so
1115s we've managed to get a way that you can
1117s rename your dog and we're getting an
1120s engine command soon which allows us to
1123s show change the npc to that dog's name
1125s so you can walk around with your with
1126s your dog bubba following it behind you
1128s and it's not just like uh like dog it's
1131s actually got its name and it feels that
1133s much more connected which is awesome
1135s um
1137s and
1138s cool yeah so
1140s um there's potential for more
1142s functionality in the future if we really
1144s wanted to go that far so we've already
1145s got uh personalities um we've already
1148s got fetching uh as a way for um
1153s if you ever want to get rid of your dogs
1154s like cats have the um
1157s uh recycling method where you turn a cat
1160s into some death runes blood rooms
1161s biggest difference
1163s in west ardoyne
1165s we're getting a much nicer approach
1166s we're thinking you retire your dog to
1169s hasidius in exchange for some uh arrows
1172s um
1173s you know like adam and arrows or
1174s something so if you if you do want to
1176s get something out of it that's the way
1177s to do it you can go get another dog
1179s um and then another potential one now
1182s this this is pretty strong so i'm not
1184s saying we'll do this by any means by an
1186s aggro attractor where
1188s uh the dog will keep aggro of an npc for
1192s longer than a 10-minute timer so just
1194s keep barking at an npc and they'll
1196s they'll keep attacking you and stuff
1198s like that quite powerful so
1201s maybe not that one
1202s and then the final two is if a dog's got
1204s a collar uh you can attach the bone
1206s crusher necklace or ash sanctifier
1209s these are some of the more out there
1210s ideas
1212s and that's very much like what do you
1214s guys think is that going too far
1216s but considering pets are available for
1218s everyone
1219s um
1221s maybe it'd be okay so just wanted to put
1223s that out there and get the general
1224s thoughts of chat from that
1226s um
1227s so i've got one one more slide um
1230s so you guys have you know pets dogs have
1232s been a big one for a while i think
1234s chat's been pogging off pretty hard uh
1236s so i just thought i'd show you some of
1238s the kind of feedback we've gotten uh
1240s we've got some good reception to dogs
1241s that's all i'm trying to say so um if
1243s there's a project that uh kieran's gonna
1245s pick for the future yeah it should
1247s definitely be dogs of gilano um
1249s and you should definitely all agree
1252s uh
1253s and that's the last slide that's dogs
1255s are gillian
1258s i think there's a lot of slander towards
1259s cats i'm not sure

1292s one of those that i have been seeing is
1294s this question about blood runes i think
1296s you've already answered it really
1299s we're not going to let your dogs be
1300s turned into blood runes like you can
1302s turn your cats into
1305s no yeah that um
1307s that was something that kind of popped
1308s up during uh development when we started
1311s putting things out to twitter um
1313s and getting some feedbacks like what if
1315s you could trade them in for
1317s arrows in hasidius i thought that works
1319s great let's incorporate it in um
1323s so i think that kind of goes to show
1324s that once the when we're doing these
1326s game jam weeks um i i wanted to be
1328s really socially active during that week
1330s and talk to players because it's a very
1332s player focused update i think
1334s um
1335s if you do see like a developer
1337s reaching out and showing off what
1338s they're working on feel free to just
1340s drop some thoughts of what you what you
1342s think and uh maybe like oh have you
1345s thought about this and then that could
1346s you know change the design because it's
1348s it's really free-flowing during that
1350s first uh during the game jam week and
1352s it's great
1356s awesome uh there's some suggestions
1358s around allowing dogs to carry items for
1361s us
1363s so like a small like one or two size
1366s inventory
1367s um
1369s i wonder how i'd have to think about how
1371s good that would be
1372s or maybe it's a restricted list but
1375s uh some potential for that i think
1380s yeah it feels like pretty dangerous
1381s territory for me because it would
1383s incentivize you to use dogs over any
1385s other
1386s cosmetic pet and most pets are cosmetic
1389s at the minute so
1390s true very true it's generally my feeling
1392s on it anyway um
1394s what will happen to so what will happen
1395s to the varrock stray dog after the quest
1398s will you will he still be found in
1399s farrock
1401s as um
1402s so
1403s i know there is it's the stray dog is
1406s part of a specific smithing meta but
1410s they've had their time out on the
1411s streets
1412s so they get re-homed to the shelter
1415s or we could extend that further once you
1417s take it to the shelter someone comes
1419s along and adopt it adopts it and that
1422s also that person happens to live in west
1425s varrock
1426s so the stray dog's still around but
1428s they're all like cleaned up there's no
1429s fleas flying around their heads
1431s and they're really excited to see you
1433s every time they come past
1434s um
1435s so it's like you you've made an impact
1438s on the world and you can see the dogs
1439s like living a much happier life that'd
1441s be really awesome as i was saying it
1443s that's what we're going to do
1447s awesome all right i think that'll have

1593s we need more of that energy 100 so take

1598s cool so the tacit kyle trials um sure
1602s much you saw it on twitter but if you
1603s haven't uh hopefully this image does a
1605s bit of explaining so we've had the fight
1608s caves we've had the inferno and
1610s i'm sure as many you guys know there's
1611s like i don't know two years experience
1614s playing the game jump between them maybe
1616s if not more and billions worth of gear
1618s and you know both updates are great and
1620s whatnot but um
1622s what we were thinking is how can we add
1624s a new spin
1626s on these kind of wave-based pieces of
1628s content that's been really popular in
1630s the past and players love to do
1632s and like let's just go in a different
1633s direction with this because i think
1635s inferno has the problem of how hard can
1638s it really get and how small is the
1640s player base going to be that's going to
1642s do it so hopefully this pitch uh
1645s hopes to address a lot of that
1648s let me move on to the next slide
1653s go so what is classical trials uh
1656s as it kind of states here it's a new pvm
1658s activity i think that's pretty uh
1660s obvious from what we've said so far
1662s um we've got a heavy emphasis on risk
1664s versus reward um we'll touch on that bit
1667s later but the loot system is going to
1669s kind of incentivize you to go ooh i'm
1671s building up loot as i clear each wave
1673s instead of just one thing at the end
1675s because well nobody cares about just the
1678s minute amount of tackle you get
1681s um you know you're going to choose at
1682s the end of the wave do i risk it and and
1684s go for the next bigger uh salute
1687s um
1688s it is going to be sort of a milestone
1690s after fight caves we expect this to be
1692s harder than the fight caves you would
1693s have to do that um

1723s who this content is for we just
1725s generally want people who engage in pvm
1727s uh we want it to be a money maker as
1729s well and that's something i think we
1730s fight caves in inferno don't do this is
1731s gonna have that sort of loot based
1733s reward system as you go along um it's
1735s also gonna have a new best and slot and
1737s tradable item which we'll touch on later
1740s um
1741s obviously just people looking for a
1742s challenge the sheer thrill of you know
1745s putting yourself against that i think
1746s that's something that the inferno
1747s captured so well on releases even if you
1749s thought there's no way i can beat
1751s like triple jabs and stuff it was like
1753s testing yourself how far can i get
1755s through this challenge
1757s um
1758s that sort of thing and i hope you guys
1760s are
1760s you know liking the little teaser sort
1762s of creatures we've got in all these
1764s slides
1765s art did a great job
1768s uh next slide
1771s cool so some of the key features already
1773s touched on it's wave based you're gonna
1775s have choices at the end of each wave
1777s ramps up in difficulty kind of covering
1779s all this and the stuff i've said before
1781s um unique loot system
1783s it's going to be tacit cal sor
1785s theme do you guys see the thematics of
1787s the npcs and the sort of blue inferno
1789s um and we want it to be replayable i
1792s think that's that's a huge part of that
1794s um you know this might not be the best
1796s money maker in in the game potentially
1798s we don't know where that sits but you
1800s know you could reasonably say i'm going
1802s to sit here and do this content replay
1804s have a different experience as you go
1805s through
1806s and i think that's something fight caves
1807s inferno really struggle with it's it's
1810s kind of the same thing uh minus just the
1812s spawn locations of the creatures and you
1814s know the limitations that you impose on
1816s yourself with like gear and things like
1818s that
1822s uh moving on
1824s cool so i've got a little slide here to
1826s explain um risk versus reward
1829s um
1830s so this interface is a mock-up obviously
1832s you're not getting twisted bows and i
1833s you know i picked a bunch of random
1835s metal weaponry in here but hopefully it
1837s kind of shows the idea of what what's
1839s happening so
1840s you're at the start of the wave you'll
1841s see this is the loot i've got i know i'm
1843s gonna get this potentially big ticket
1846s item from the next wave so you know
1847s what's at stake
1849s um obviously each wave will have
1851s substantially increasing amounts of loot
1853s so you know wave one and wave two might
1855s be you know say like 50k rewards 25k
1858s awards but you know you're wave six
1859s you're getting like you know several
1860s hundred k rewards
1862s uh that sort of thing uh but the big
1864s thing here is you you either can leave
1866s and just go now i'm happy right that was
1869s a really tough wave six uh i'm gonna
1871s take what i've got
1872s um and maybe try again for another run
1874s or you can
1876s continue and pick a modifier so these
1878s modifiers generally end up
1881s generally are going to be making the
1883s content harder so you see some examples
1885s here an immortal wraith that follows you
1888s uh so the idea i think with it is if it
1890s hits you like seven times consecutively
1892s throughout the entire run you're just
1893s dead
1894s so if your counters at six you might be
1896s incentivized to stop or your maximum
1898s health is decreased or monsters get
1900s lucky accuracy like they roll twice to
1902s hit you and stuff
1904s um and that sort of thing so as you're
1906s progressing you'll you'll kind of pick
1908s uh which one you want to be and and we
1911s kind of want to have these play off each
1912s other where
1913s there might be two that you really don't
1915s want to pick because you know they'll be
1917s really bad if you combine them or some
1918s of them are really bad to have on boss
1921s waves but aren't so bad on waves you
1924s know so
1925s on the actual mini waves
1926s um
1928s we like the idea of having potentially a
1930s buff um after a boss wave maybe again
1933s this is all sort of prototyping sort of
1935s playing around with this
1936s um and if you die you use other looters
1939s so far and obviously it wouldn't be a
1940s safe death um
1942s we had a lot of people give feedback
1944s sort of saying oh but we want to have
1945s buffs after every wave instead of nerfs
1947s but then like the players getting
1949s increasingly stronger so the waves need
1950s to get like hugely like stronger like
1953s you they need to scale up faster than
1954s the player to get that difficulty it
1956s just didn't
1957s you know kind of feels like it could be
1958s harder to balance that and i think the
1960s whole
1961s strategy of picking you know
1963s sort of mechanics that you feel you're
1965s more capable of dealing with uh will
1966s make it a lot more interesting as well
1972s moving on
1975s uh touch on thematics a little bit it
1976s should be obvious from the pictures but
1978s we're kind of going tacical themed sort
1980s of mount karum uh for those of you who
1982s don't know the lore they are
1983s historically tazar who left um
1986s to continue on the mission of
1988s maintaining the balance between life and
1989s death
1991s the sulfurous environment to the
1992s mountains turn them blue over time
1996s in their attempts to gain powerful
1997s allies uh they have been known to help a
2000s select few achieve immortality but this
2002s has not worked out in the favor so
2004s they've instead turned to alternative
2005s methods to finding suitable champions so
2008s they they might have a task for you
2010s later down the line and this is this is
2012s how you'll prove yourself worthy
2014s uh kind of thing
2016s uh moving
2017s on um
2019s so yeah just going on to say that
2020s they'll put you through the test these
2021s waves um
2024s and you potentially if you're good
2026s enough we'll become champion of the
2027s tacical so you'll come down here and
2031s sort of sign up so that's that's kind of
2032s the background story obviously a lot
2034s more to be fleshed out there
2036s moving on to the next bit
2039s difficulty so i think this is the big
2041s thing and i think the the number of
2043s waves is pretty huge so a lot of people
2046s even on their first fight capes were
2047s like oh i think i could do jad but it
2049s takes like two hours to get there you
2050s know because you're thinking like
2051s someone with a
2052s like a magic short bow and low gear 60
2055s 70 range
2056s oh i just i i choked like on the second
2059s attack it takes forever to get back and
2061s i think the same thing exists for
2062s inferno right even inferno has a lot of
2064s criticism of
2066s it doesn't really start until like early
2068s 50s really late 40s early 50s is when
2070s you actually you know have to juggle
2072s multiple preachers at once um
2075s now obviously we could just make a
2077s single standalone boss as a unique
2078s challenge and we've done that with
2079s bosses before but i think there's some
2081s merit in the build up of getting
2082s progressively more difficult so this is
2085s this is kind of where we're thinking
2086s we're gonna have more impactful waves
2088s that kick off from the start
2090s waves one to four or the first third of
2092s a good way of saying this we don't know
2093s if we're gonna stick with 12 waves but
2094s you know first third of the thing is
2097s fight cave-ish level difficulty you know
2099s you're gonna have a bunch of creatures
2100s different mechanics it'll obviously
2102s start off slower and easier uh waves
2105s five to eight if you're used to doing
2106s raids chambers of zerick you're a blood
2109s it's all revoir cath you're probably
2110s gonna be in this ballpark you know
2112s you're experienced in pvm
2114s uh maybe you'll be like wave six on a
2116s lose on wave five or six if a bad
2118s attempt if you play badly or don't pick
2120s you know modifiers that suit well to you
2122s and maybe you'll get a bit luckier and
2124s push to seven or eight if that sort of
2125s ball part and then waves nine to twelve
2128s we're going
2129s at the pinnacle near inferno level i
2131s think we were actually talking about it
2133s in design saying wave 9 should be as
2135s hard as wave 63 in the inferno that's
2137s the big wave where you've got like two
2139s blobs a melee arranger and a major this
2142s should start there and then get even
2144s harder so this will be that challenge
2145s for the next sort of for those players
2147s who are seeking that challenge above the
2149s inferno obviously they'll be bosses on
2151s waves four f um
2153s or eight and twelve
2155s so you know these will be like kind of
2156s check points as you go along um we'll
2158s touch on the best and slot him in a
2160s second but the idea is you would get a
2162s best and spot sort of like upgradeable
2164s item
2165s uh like as you defeat the bosses at 48
2167s and 12. so we kind of see the player
2169s journey
2170s coming along as like
2172s ooh i just beat fight capes let's give
2173s it a shot i got to wave three maybe i'll
2175s give another shot now i can't quite beat
2177s it maybe get an upgrade come back beat
2178s wave four then you see then you're now
2180s i'm gonna step back i got the upgrade
2182s i'll maybe go train some stats get some
2183s more money farm some more gear get more
2185s experience come back beat wave eight and
2187s then
2188s you know
2189s maybe get even better and get more gear
2191s and do wave 12. and
2194s i think this got a lot of confusion when
2195s i mentioned it on twitter but we want to
2197s focus on strategical difficulty over
2199s mechanical difficulty
2200s there's only so difficult this game can
2203s get with exact precise movement on a
2205s tick by tick basis and
2207s exact prayers being active
2210s before it just becomes kind of
2212s nonsensical
2213s at that point we're maybe relying on
2214s mechanics like
2216s memory and all this kind of things that
2218s are just you know getting really
2219s difficult
2220s so while we don't want to push that if
2222s you look at the inferno a lot of the
2223s creatures are really basic right this
2225s has a as a range attack has a major
2227s attack the blobs are really interesting
2230s the melee is interesting we want to lean
2232s on that kind of thing you know
2234s this wave is different than the last
2236s time i was here based on my modifiers
2238s this is the best kill order or
2240s um ooh this this we were talking about
2243s things like an npc that throws a
2244s projectile and if it hits another npc it
2247s like super charges them up and you've
2249s got the option of either killing the one
2250s that cast it killing the receiving end
2252s so it never gets there or like something
2255s else you know or like you know playing
2257s around like strategical elements maybe
2259s you can drag another npc in the
2261s projectiles path and it'll power that
2262s one up instead just things that are like
2264s on a like
2266s on like a more strategic level where you
2268s know you can
2269s you can get there
2271s um and yeah just basically reacting and
2273s adapting to the situation that you have
2276s um
2277s and then moving on to the next slide so
2278s i think this is where we talk about the
2280s rewards
2282s it's wave based content wave based
2284s content is tends to favor cape slot we
2286s saw these suggestions come up on twitter
2287s which is why we decided to share them
2289s now because we this is where we were
2291s already kind of leaning with this
2293s um the idea is you would have the
2294s special slot mage cape that you first
2296s get at level at wave four it gets
2299s upgraded by like some magic percent at
2300s level eight and upgraded even more at
2302s level 12 where love wait we envisioned
2305s it kind of being like two four six
2306s percent but
2307s numbers and balancing aside can come
2310s later right you know magic needs some
2312s love
2312s and we also wanted to give like a mage
2315s ring upgrade to the sears give some
2317s magic damage um make it tradable and
2319s this is the kind of thing that you're
2320s getting as part of the regular boot
2322s system that you could just get lucky and
2324s see this on wave six and suddenly
2325s pressures on to to beat wave six and get
2327s the ring or you know it'd be obviously
2329s more common from later waves and
2332s and finally we would want uh another
2334s reward like maybe akin to like crystal
2336s armor seed like as the value of like a
2338s regular beat you know you've got like a
2340s three four mil drop that'll come up from
2341s time to time that you're eager to get
2344s but like the ring would be like that
2345s like 50 60 ml i7 then you've obviously
2348s got or more and you've got this magek
2350s but that's where we're kind of leaning
2351s with rewards obviously rewards are the
2354s most like
2356s they make a change of anything in this
2357s content more so it's just you know
2359s whatever you guys want from this content
2361s but
2362s yeah
2363s that's kind of what we're thinking
2366s and is that it is the last slide

2373s yeah is there anything else you want to
2374s say arcane i know you were keen to have
2375s me pitch a lot of this but did i miss

2378s you are the hype man but no i think shot
2380s seems to really like it i think i'm
2383s quite happy people quite like the idea
2384s of the cape i think people are a bit
2386s hesitant about the rewards at first but
2388s people seem to be fond of the idea of a
2390s cape and we we don't really have
2391s anything that's like upgraded tears so
2393s the idea of you getting like a good cape
2395s and then it gets stronger and stronger
2397s depending on how much you can actually
2398s complete the content i think is quite
2400s unique and interesting
2402s and
2403s yeah
2405s yeah i see a lot of measuring or two
2407s stuff coming up and obviously the answer
2408s could be wave four is one percent so
2410s major arena two sits in between
2412s it could just be we actually envision
2414s this being harder than major arena 2k
2416s because that's not difficult
2418s but obviously majoring in a 2k is
2419s riskier
2420s for the pvp elements of it right so they
2423s could be a nice balance of there and
2424s like i said rewards are
2426s so up in the air i'm sure we'll go
2427s through a huge round of feedback if this
2429s gets presented
2431s um were there any other questions you
2433s saw come up here and or
2437s yeah there are some a couple of
2439s questions some of them you just touched
2440s on like leaving would this just leave
2442s major arena cakes in the dust i think
2444s you just answered that other questions

2447s we often get this kind of thing but
2449s would the sears ring be needed to sort
2451s of combine to form this new ring for
2454s instance
2456s it could be an upgrade item if we wanted
2458s it i think the problem is that how rare
2460s these are coming in compared to how
2461s quick sears rings are coming in it might
2463s not do
2464s anything to dent the price and the price
2466s is so low so i don't think it's a i
2468s don't think this is kind of like the
2469s bandos armadill situation with necks and
2471s rage 3 where we're trying to protect
2472s protect an expensive drop that is you
2474s know part of that content so sears ring
2476s probably still has its place but
2478s again that's just preliminary thoughts
2480s on the spot i'm sure we could go either
2482s way on that depending on how the
2483s community wanted

2607s between um strategical like you know the
2610s strategical element over it over
2612s mechanical is really interesting as well
2614s and i'm i'm keen to see how difficult it
2616s gets at that final wave um if this goes

2680s what ponds are

2683s a place where you can grow and grow your
2684s own fish
2686s but to do that you'll need fish eggs
2688s and fish food
2689s to get your fish food you would take
2691s your seeds over to the seed crusher and
2694s you'd mash them all up and you get a
2696s different type of fish food based on the
2698s seeds that you you're using
2700s the fish food depending on the fish food
2702s it will either increase your yield
2704s increase your or decrease the time it
2705s takes to grow
2707s or both if you've used a really good
2709s seed
2710s so it's a nice way to get rid of get rid
2711s of seeds from from the game
2714s and if you've got any access in your
2715s bank yeah you know
2716s you can get rid of them as well
2721s to get fish eggs what you would do is
2723s you would get your fish and you would
2725s use a knife on it
2727s and then you'd get the eggs from fish
2729s that way you don't always get eggs
2732s because sometimes
2733s you might not be that good you might not
2735s be good enough for cooking
2736s so you might just
2738s destroy the fish instead
2740s but the amount of fish eggs is based on
2742s your cooking level
2743s so the higher cooking level the more
2745s eggs you'll get and the less likely you
2747s are to
2749s actually destroy the fish
2753s with the fish eggs you would take them
2754s over to your pond which you would
2756s purchase with beans which you get from
2759s doing stuff with the player their own
2760s farm itself
2762s you put your eggs in the pond
2763s you chuck in the fish food
2765s and then you'd have to wait as you
2767s usually do with any any farming patch
2770s for them to grow
2771s and once you're done once they're done
2773s growing you can fish them up for some
2776s extra fish

2938s into stardew valley and stuff so having

2947s the sort of idea of player on farms has
2950s been around quite a while i think
2952s some of you might remember we actually
2954s talked about it one roon fest many years

2961s around these are some new concepts as
2964s part of it proposed here as well in bees
2966s and ponds and
2968s plenty of space for rewards as well uh
2971s obviously we have some questions that
2973s we've been capturing throughout the
2974s presentation and i'd love to jump on to

2977s and one is will this be
2980s the quote
2981s dailyscape content
2986s i see this is going alongside your
2988s current farming run so it'd be something
2989s else that you would go ahead and
2992s gather

2995s you'd probably be doing this multiple
2996s times a day like you do with your herbs
3000s and treat trees depending on what time
3001s you uh plant them

3004s yeah i don't don't see you guys going
3006s out your way to
3008s do this once a day
3014s barefoot and second of that will there
3017s be the opportunity to train any other
3019s skills through clear and farms
3023s oh we didn't i didn't we didn't think
3026s about that but i don't see why you
3028s couldn't gain any fishing xp from
3030s farming your fish
3031s if you were a lower fishing level and
3032s was required to get it you would get
3034s reduced a severely reduced xp item
3037s just uh

3040s increased x-ray xp rates because then
3042s you could game it by
3043s growing your fish
3045s fishing normally
3048s but
3049s and then if you had animals depending on
3051s what you were doing
3052s you could gain some xp there as well but
3054s most most of the xp your game will be
3056s from the produce that you get
3061s makes sense there's a lot of potential
3063s still in this right it's not so it's not
3065s fully fleshed out tons of potentials for
3067s new rewards and new ties of xps these
3070s are some questions that we haven't
3071s necessarily
3072s got to fully designing yet i guess todd
3076s no no not fully yet
3078s still room for room for more design and
3080s improvement to this
3083s awesome well player owned farms wouldn't
3085s be the only content that starts with
3087s player owned right we have to play with
3089s houses will there be any link between
3092s playing houses and players and farms
3097s there's nothing planned at this time

3102s being made in your garden to send you to

3106s or maybe even if there's time
3108s with the farm to your player and house
3111s instead of it being in the overworld

3190s yeah as i say i love these kind of
3192s concepts it feels like a natural fit
3193s into the game world right the ability to
3196s do some of this stuff and you know
3198s obviously there's only just two ideas
3200s right you would imagine extending this
3201s to like being able to farm more animals
3204s and get different resources from them
3206s all sorts of some of this so especially
3209s a good way to get some skilling
3210s resources through skilling
3212s i think there's a big gap in this game
3214s right now that would be a good thing to
3215s explore but i do think the questions
3218s around dailyscape are
3220s legitimate i think those these things
3222s need really carefully carefully
3223s considered um because you don't want to
3225s just end up with this sort of huge
3227s laundry list of things to do
3230s every single day from like your
3232s birdhouses your seaweeds your farming
3235s contracts etc etc so it needs to be put
3238s in the right spot so that it doesn't
3240s become an
3241s overburden
3243s too much of a burden basically and we
3246s need to think about that
3248s yeah yeah i think that's a very good
3250s point um
3251s yeah this is extremely important for us
3253s to make sure we're not making it so
3256s you know tedious and come back to time
3258s and time again that you just don't want
3259s to do it i think it's it's got a good
3261s it's got potential to be a very good
3263s place in the game um and just as on the
3266s animals there was some definitely some
3268s interesting ideas for animals being kept
3271s during those discussions so i will leave

3313s um i could do so um i've been working on
3316s and off at jagex coming on probably 19
3319s years now um so i took a few years out
3322s and i've just returned about just over a
3324s year ago um and i've been working on
3327s things like the league and the upcoming
3329s giants foundry
3331s so yeah
3333s that's pretty much me
3335s i'm sure some of you are familiar with
3338s uh some of mod dylan's content
3340s yeah i'm famous for nasty nasty puzzles
3343s uh like the light temple uh elemental
3346s workshop i'm trying to think of other
3348s horrible puzzles that i've made for
3349s people
3350s yeah
3353s that's awesome stuff it's awesome to
3355s have you back once again motherland so i
3357s think without further ado let's uh take
3360s it away what is known ball manager
3362s so i'm sure you'll know what known ball
3365s is but for those of you who don't uh
3367s as the name suggests known ball manager
3369s is the gnomes national sport there is a
3372s noble pitch already in game you can find
3374s it up by the
3375s grand tree um
3377s gnome ball is old and when i say old i
3379s mean really old i originally transferred
3383s the code from the classic code base
3386s coming on 19 years ago so so like i say
3389s it's a it's proper old content um and
3391s for me
3392s it's kind of embodies what is
3395s what is really really old school it's
3397s got all of those fun light-hearted
3399s feelings which i i feel of old school is
3401s and then at the same time it's got that
3403s kind of grounded in our in our in-game
3405s law so so for me it seemed like a
3407s classic place to go for for some for
3409s some new new feeling content as well
3412s um so noble manager itself what is it um
3416s for some time now we've had this idea
3418s floating around the office of an in-game
3420s ccg
3422s um
3423s and uh in fact i believe the idea is so
3425s popular we've got two pictures today for
3427s ccgs
3428s haven't we sani
3431s um
3432s so
3434s the idea of gnome ball manager was to
3435s make a ccg that players can participate
3438s in alongside their existing uh in-game
3441s experience rather than sort of something
3443s new to participate in uh that would uh
3446s take up extra time
3449s so
3449s with that in mind we kind of
3451s concentrated much more on this idea of
3453s collecting cards and building up a deck
3457s or building up your team rather than the
3459s actual playing of a ccg
3463s so
3464s for that what we wanted to rely on was
3466s much more something that was um how to
3468s say it uh more generated more
3470s streamlined faster to play when you
3472s actually played it but still had that
3475s same build up of collecting cards
3476s getting excited for getting that new
3478s card for the first time getting rare
3480s cards and things like that
3482s so the idea with with known ball is it's
3485s part ccg and part sports management game
3489s you would be collecting uh cards by
3491s participating in
3493s existing game content um seeing as this
3496s is known ball related uh things like uh
3499s gnome deliveries and known food and
3501s cocktails would obviously be an obvious
3503s place to get some of the rewards uh some
3505s of the cards from but also i'm thinking
3507s places like um
3510s treasure trails might provide car uh
3513s right provide extra cards as well as
3515s monster drops could provide cards so
3517s players would be building up their decks
3519s slowly out of all of the from all of
3520s these different
3521s things that they were participating in
3523s the game uh standard gameplay methods
3525s and as they got together more and more
3527s cards eventually they'd be able to form
3529s a noble team which they would be able to
3532s field against other players or
3535s against ai
3537s so the idea being that you would have a
3540s number of different types of cards you'd
3542s be collecting
3544s if we could show the
3546s card slide
3548s um
3550s that would um
3551s to give some idea we would have athlete
3553s cards
3554s um which would show what type of what
3558s what athletes the players had available
3560s to them they would have different stats
3561s like their throw and catch and tackle
3563s and run abilities they might have
3565s special abilities individually as well
3569s and obviously the higher cut level
3570s content you got
3572s the card from the higher level the card
3574s would be
3575s um
3576s as well as the athletes on the pitch
3578s known ball has got uh the cheerleaders
3580s which have always had a bit of a sweet
3582s spot for me i thought i coded them up
3583s years and years ago and i and they were
3585s the one original thing that i added to
3587s the original known ball so i kind of
3589s wanted to give cheerleaders their own
3590s place in the game um so the cheerleaders
3594s will will be able to give buffs um to
3596s the to the game while it's running so
3598s they're another part uh type of card you
3600s can let collect and then you would have
3603s contracts
3605s which would
3606s be applied to athletes
3609s to allow you to fill them for a number
3612s of games
3613s so you'd have to be constantly earning
3616s contracts in order to maintain your team
3619s so you'd have to continually be going
3620s out and participating in other content
3623s that wasn't lone ball manager in order
3625s to continue uh getting the benefits of
3627s nameball manager if that makes sense
3630s um
3632s the other types of cards you'd have item
3634s upgrades for athletes um and uh in-game
3638s buffing cards so cards that would buff
3640s the game
3641s during play
3643s and so once a player built up a
3645s reasonable selection of these they could
3647s start
3648s building a team up uh out of the uh
3652s choosing their uh
3654s 12 athletes i believe we went for so
3655s that'd be uh nine on the pitch and three
3658s substitutions they would be able to have
3661s um and
3663s um
3665s and uh uh two
3666s two of the uh
3669s sorry i of the cheerleaders would be
3671s able to be selected and put in the team
3673s and then you'd be able to apply items to
3675s those uh to those athletes to uh up
3678s their stats a little bit further
3680s um i think that about covers the card
3682s collection side of it
3685s once the players had managed to build a
3687s team um
3689s they would then be able to go on and
3691s generate matches
3694s so
3694s this is a little look at what the
3696s interface might look for for a generated
3699s match um so the players would uh be put
3702s on the match in their specific places uh
3705s the players would be
3706s a sorry the athletes would be put on the
3708s on the match in the specific places and
3710s the players would be able to choose um
3713s the a number of small ways in which they
3716s could affect the game but the games
3717s wouldn't be
3719s massively uh
3721s how to say they wouldn't be vastly
3723s affected by players input at runtime if
3726s that makes sense so a lot of it the
3729s matches are intended to be incredibly
3730s quick less than two minutes or two
3732s minutes or or just slightly over
3735s and realistically the only things you'll
3736s be able to change is the players
3739s approach um
3742s to
3743s to the the players that their athletes
3745s approach to how they play the game so
3747s whether they're cautious and which case
3748s say their stats will be uh modified in
3751s one way or if they're aggressive will
3753s modify the general player's stats in
3754s another way
3757s the pla during game play the players
3758s will be able to make things like
3760s substitutions
3762s changing the attitude as we described
3765s activate the cheerleaders special
3767s abilities or
3769s change the match buff cards which they
3772s currently have in play
3774s so so the kind of things that you can do
3776s in game are like little tweaks but the
3778s major the major crux of is your team
3781s going to win or lose is based on your
3784s decisions about how you build the deck
3786s before you go into the game
3788s um
3790s i think that kind of covers the game
3793s in broad strokes um
3796s we were then going to have
3798s a number of different ways that players
3801s could interact with this so some players
3803s you may want to have a one-on-one
3805s friendly match with uh with one of your
3807s mates so
3808s maybe even maybe even um
3810s betting a a card on the outcome of the
3813s match um i'm not sure how how that would
3815s work out but it's something we were
3817s thinking about is the idea of very much
3819s like the classic magic the gathering
3821s kind of style where you're where you're
3823s you always put one card up as an anti at
3825s the beginning of the game uh and whoever
3827s wins wins the cards
3828s um then we were also thinking that you
3831s would have uh minor leagues um
3835s that players could play through uh
3838s or players could submit their teams to
3840s um and
3842s in a league scenario the games would
3843s play out themselves in the background
3846s and and you'd only be able to watch the
3848s outcomes of the matches as these as what
3851s we didn't want to end up with is in a
3852s scenario where you literally had to go
3854s and play a thousand other players
3856s matches uh just to get through one
3858s season of a league because that doesn't
3860s work in uh mmo
3862s um
3863s we had um
3865s the idea of uh
3867s of a
3868s player
3869s ran league which would more be like uh a
3872s selection of players would sign up to
3875s a a group
3877s and this would leverage the same
3878s technology we're using for the clans um
3881s and then using that group we could kind
3883s of
3884s allow a small enclosed league of of a
3888s smaller group of people that would be
3889s much more like a a true league as well
3892s and then finally we thought uh maybe we
3894s could have a player run organize your
3897s own cup where everyone could put in some
3899s pennies into a cup pot and then
3902s eventually whoever got down to the cup
3904s final and the one would win the the
3907s pennies but again a lot of these are
3909s kind of almost gambling so we have to
3911s think about how we can do these safely
3913s without them actually being gambling
3915s um
3916s we don't want to impact that any further
3919s i think i think that kind of covers it
3921s um i think i've probably gone through it
3923s really quickly so

3937s creator for the game jam like i'm all
3939s for this especially it's one so

3951s itself and you kind of you kind of have
3953s some input but it's something that once
3955s you've got it set up it's kind of going
3957s off and it's running itself and then you
3958s can come and look in on it from time to
3960s time and see how it's going rather than
3963s it's something that you're constantly
3964s putting into once you've once you've
3966s started it if that makes sense
3968s which i think is kind of
3970s it's different to your pitch because
3971s your pitch is actually a physical game
3972s you play no
3976s yeah yeah it will be so uh we'll touch
3979s more on that yeah i'm sorry sorry yeah
3983s i think one of the biggest questions we
3985s had uh was can we get king nard mode on
3988s on the team
3990s i think i think he would definitely have
3991s to be a top level player yeah i think
3993s maybe maybe you could super rare card
3996s maybe a foil even

4016s this is the idea that sort of shocked me
4018s like this is like so outside the box of

4021s for old school content almost like where

4026s um i have no idea it's just um i think
4029s i've been i've been playing quite a few
4030s 2k games recently so so maybe maybe i've
4033s taken some inspiration from 2k
4038s fair play
4039s um some other questions then
4042s so the pitch mentioned obviously you're
4043s going to get cards from like different
4044s activities in old school are you
4046s imagining this is from like high level
4048s bosses mini gears you mentioned clue
4051s scrolls already could it be literally
4053s essentially anything
4055s um yeah i mean
4056s personally as i feel the broader the
4058s broader reaching the better because it
4060s should be something that no matter what
4062s a player's doing they're kind of slowly
4064s earning earning cars towards this deck
4066s it shouldn't be something like you've
4067s got to go and participate in this part
4069s of the world in order to get this thing
4071s so so yeah i was thinking i was thinking
4074s yeah it could be anything treasure trout
4075s seemed like a perfect place for it to me
4080s yeah but yeah any high levels any
4082s monster boss would that would work as
4083s well
4086s that makes sense would you let people
4088s choose their colors their team colors
4091s absolutely i think a stripe a stripe
4093s editor is absolutely required for this
4096s uh yeah
4097s you'd need to i want to have stripes or
4100s i want to have a little tick on my yeah
4102s not just colors but yeah what what kind
4104s of shape do i want on my chip you know
4106s yeah
4108s sounds awesome
4109s i think maybe even strikes should be a
4111s rare drop as well you know maybe maybe a
4113s striped card should be a rare drop as
4115s well
4117s i don't know what wonder gnome does
4119s um these are literally names of cards i
4123s came up with um off the top of my head
4125s to make this interface look filled out
4127s and give an idea of what it could be um
4130s so yeah i wonder what wonder gnome could
4132s be as well

4206s so i think it's it's also where we think
4208s about like how how something like this
4209s would actually interface with the game
4212s um think a little bit more about the
4213s rewards elements as well and how that
4215s works with with old school too
4218s and i think that really is how it
4219s impacts the measures how it impacts the
4221s skills and all that sort of stuff is the
4222s thing to
4224s that
4225s might give us some more answers on where
4226s it fits um
4228s but yeah
4231s oh well apparently we got the wrong link

4341s that we got to do the the the games jam
4344s obviously it wasn't uh restricted
4345s entirely to the content devs as well and
4347s i i happened to be in the office on the
4349s day and the final day of the games jam
4351s and you could tell around the different
4352s teams and stuff like that there was so
4354s much like passion and enjoyment from it
4356s so
4356s the jam itself was you know very
4358s successful on several fronts not just
4360s for the kind of ideation game
4362s uh ideas creation but you know the
4365s morality was amazing as well but um the
4367s time given me i've been thinking about
4369s i'm looking at
4371s the seasonal high scores which we
4373s already currently have for runescape
4375s which we don't frequently
4376s uh i say frequently we haven't used it
4378s now for a couple of years and i think uh
4381s i can't remember it was one of the live
4382s tournaments we used it last but the
4384s whole concept of what a seasonal high
4387s score system would would bring and
4390s whether or not we could do it in a short
4392s time frame or how long it would take and
4394s what work ultimately that would
4397s entail
4398s but if we were successful we'd give it
4400s some time to work in it et cetera and it
4402s would obviously bring first and foremost
4405s i think weekly and monthly high scores
4407s uh so it would incentivize people's
4409s general playing times so i appreciate
4412s that the high scores currently right now
4413s are kind of locked at the top i quite
4415s like that prestigiousness with them but
4417s being able to
4418s you know bring um
4420s you know new new players the opportunity
4422s to get to the top
4424s and you know achieve that uh with weeks
4426s play or months play i think that would
4428s be a good starting point for what the
4429s seasonal high score represents and but
4432s looking further down the line what that
4434s system also would give us is not only
4436s time-based high scores so i think the
4439s concept of having uh potentially a
4441s global personal best high score really
4444s incentivizes some of the content around
4446s that but also really uh specific bespoke
4449s high scores so the the the example one
4452s i've been kind of given internally you
4454s know kvd kills the one that is uh very
4456s uh very obvious and was was used a lot
4459s for by runescape was red kills but we'd
4461s be able to support things like next and
4464s i think that would have been a great
4465s opportunity to put like uh most next
4467s kills in the week
4468s and have a high score uh
4471s running side by side with that and then
4473s properly incentivizing also those high
4476s scores and runescape
4477s gave a
4479s cosmetic didn't that they had the
4481s crown of champions or crown of legends
4483s uh so when you were the the current kind
4485s of leader you had a very uh
4488s time limited version of the crown of
4490s legends and then it uh defaulted out to
4492s a permanent cosmetic um override
4495s so i'm very keen to kind of explore what
4499s players
4500s would like to see in terms of you know
4501s time-based high scores uh bespoke
4504s specifics like ones we can measure with
4507s uh counters in that sense you know like
4509s kills etc um but yeah uh
4512s i think there's a lot of pearls from it
4515s and there is some cons which we
4516s discussed uh post games jam as well
4518s about you know things that might come
4519s through
4520s from that including people boosting
4522s being able to manipulate the high score
4524s purses but at the end of the day they're
4525s meant to be there for fun so i think i
4528s would hope
4529s that it just incentivizes player and
4531s gives people another way of you know
4533s achieving kind of things
4535s via the high score systems
4539s i think it's absolutely awesome what it
4540s sort of enables us to do going forward
4543s um because essentially what it would let
4545s us do is anytime we wish we could run a
4548s temporary sort of competition
4551s that you know let's say it runs for
4552s seven days we could do the fastest next
4555s kill this week
4558s and
4559s [ __ ] like and being able to put that on
4561s the website so that everyone can sort of
4562s officially see their ranking etc etc
4565s gives us a lot of scope for
4568s for instance when we release the next
4569s raid everyone wants that
4572s we can have a bunch of different things
4574s going on that sort of track most raids
4576s completed fastest ones completed
4579s you know that sort of thing
4582s and see
4583s who comes out top ultimately and let
4585s people engage in it in an interesting
4586s way the the thing i would personally
4589s actually like to avoid with it is making
4591s them sort of that heavier grind fest
4593s where it's like most in a week sort of
4595s does encourage that play 24 7 gameplay
4598s or even worse cheating and account
4600s sharing and doing it that way so i i
4602s prefer to lean towards the sort of
4604s fastest ones or or indeed do something a
4607s little bit different like
4610s like most com most kills in an hour or
4612s something like that as well where
4614s because we could essentially do anything
4616s arbitrary we can we can do this sort of
4619s thing and have it on a high score as
4620s well
4621s so
4622s i like this i think it gives us a lot of
4624s potential to play with our content in in
4627s a different way as well
4629s so
4630s really exciting um something i really
4632s would love to do with this workout is do
4634s it do you want most tears from tears of
4637s gothics
4639s i'm just fascinated to see how many
4641s people can actually get from it
4642s and like truly comes out on top
4646s yeah it wouldn't fall in the mini game
4647s section but we could even like do it as
4649s a period of time thing right we could do
4651s it for one month and then we'd never do
4652s it again and i you know it would add
4654s uh integrity uh to to
4657s have been like the top of that so
4662s yeah absolutely and the fact we could do
4664s those and they're so they're so flexible
4666s lets us do it for basically anything and
4668s i kind of see this is something that
4669s maybe every month or so we have a
4671s different one or different two going on
4673s so there's something there if you want
4675s to go and compete in some of these
4676s things
4677s and and tying it to our releases as well
4679s so you know we've released any raid
4681s release a new thing
4683s there's a there's a competition sort of
4684s alongside that in the
4686s week or two after launch as well
4689s yeah the best bit about this is
4691s naturally it's already been in runescape
4693s right so you know as old school players
4695s you can go and see how runescape have
4697s integrated i'd imagine it'd probably be
4698s something really similar but yeah really
4700s keen to hear uh player ideas for
4703s ids for high scores
4705s yeah it's about what we do with it and
4708s what the technology enables us to do
4711s really
4712s um
4713s awesome so i think with that we should
4714s just go into some sort of immediate
4716s questions
4718s um
4719s is there any room for functionality here
4721s around sort of clan specific high scores
4724s would be cool to compare members of our
4726s clan
4728s that's interesting right yeah um
4731s i mean to a degree we could use
4734s the group iron man high scores to maybe
4737s facilitate some of this
4739s um
4740s the existing architecture for the
4742s seasonal
4743s does not provide that
4745s but it would be something i'd be very
4747s keen to look into having done the clan
4749s system as well
4750s so
4754s yeah fairly um
4756s another question is would this highlight
4759s certain content each week or would all
4761s content have this this high score a
4763s ladder all the time
4765s this is utterly completely optimistic
4768s yeah i would leave it in the hands of
4770s the the content devs then you could have
4772s a persistent one that runs like like i
4774s said every week every month for the
4776s remainder of time or you could have one
4778s that is like we're only ever going to do
4780s this once like i mean it would be
4782s entirely up to the content there's but i
4783s do think like having a this is the only
4785s time we're going to do it and never do
4787s it again to really incentivize and give
4789s it that integrity and
4791s is a really cool uh concept as well you
4793s never really had the chance to kind of
4795s yeah
4797s see that that's kind of my view is that
4799s i wouldn't want this to be on like
4801s everything all at the same time and
4804s i like that it can create focus right
4806s it's something that the community can
4808s can talk about it's something that you
4810s know your players like wooks and or you
4813s know
4814s influencers might even want to try out
4815s and try and win a competition i mean
4818s years ago we did a we did a fastest
4820s fight games competition and that was
4822s actually really quite fun and
4824s interesting to
4825s to do but it's really the only example
4827s where we've tried this sort of thing
4830s and
4831s this this would allow us to sort of do
4833s it more
4833s more often and
4836s in a way that you can actually see how
4837s you're doing and ranking against others
4840s so
4841s lots of lots of potential with it
4843s um so with that said anything else to
4847s add
4848s that's everything like i said um i'm
4850s more than happy to hear um
4853s suggestions for high scores they want
4855s even time-based ones uh obviously you
4857s can tweet at me or you can just
4859s generally randomly as well but yeah
4861s really keen there's probably so much we
4862s haven't thought about with it partly
4864s because we haven't really had the
4865s concept to play with
4866s uh that i'm i'm sure we're probably
4867s missing one or two gems amongst uh

5712s piscarius which is what we uh we did for
5715s the game jam so

5717s previously we've done reworks of
5719s basilius and shazian
5721s this time we're looking at upgrading
5722s pascorius it's probably the easiest to
5724s attack from the ones that are left low
5727s lovely kane and rks are quite big and
5730s quite uh quite well connected so a good
5733s opportunity to just try to scale it down
5734s a bit and
5735s attack scrolls and solve any of the
5738s issues we have with that one
5739s so go to the next image we got a lovely
5742s map here
5743s as you can see not too much has changed
5745s uh effectively the land is still the
5748s same it's just everything else has kind
5749s of changed on top of it i'm still not
5751s entirely happy with this layout it does
5753s occur to me if we like take a step back
5755s of how prescriptions came to be uh the
5757s port was there
5759s in some form of estuary and then the
5761s river was added afterwards not really
5762s how uh how you'd want to plan out your
5765s your environment design but
5766s uh it's kind of what we're working with
5769s uh so i kind of want this to make a bit
5770s more sense leading in from the sea into
5772s the into the river itself however uh for
5775s now we have some rough changes to the
5778s layout
5779s uh we wanted to sort of break up the
5781s area to make it feel a lot more
5783s like you know what part of this
5784s coalition you're in apparently there's
5785s any uh sort of issue with the houses
5787s they will look the same
5789s uh but even with you know take that
5790s around away
5792s it's kind of ambiguous what area is what
5794s area
5796s so kind of want to lean into that bit
5797s more so in the
5799s far right there we've got the shipyard
5802s and all the
5803s you know
5804s ship workmen sort of area so it'd be
5806s like you know generic reports or place
5809s work work when what you'd expect
5811s on the left of the
5813s area we have where you collect your
5815s artifacts that's
5817s largely staying the same in terms of
5819s like
5819s pathing and locking so we don't want to
5821s change that content too much as it's
5823s already established matters
5825s but it would probably make sense to make
5827s it look affluent maybe increase the
5830s just the visual representation of these
5831s houses and make them look like they
5832s actually have things worth stealing
5834s rather than them looking a bit like a
5836s slum and kind of confused why they've
5838s got all these uh fruit artifacts lying
5839s around
5840s and then to the north of the area
5841s there's the sort of an area laid out for
5844s the actual lord of the area
5846s because currently i don't think there is
5848s an actual manner or mansion
5851s for the the lord of pescerius and it
5853s kind of yeah it looks like it's kind of
5855s missing so giving them a bit more of a
5856s presence on the world right
5858s uh and then to the right of that we have
5859s the slums so trying to focus all the
5862s sort of
5862s rough living people of the biscuits into
5865s one sort of area and make it feel like
5867s it's dilapidated and like
5869s a bit worn down
5870s uh if we go to the next image i think we
5872s have some
5874s uh we haven't got the concept so yeah
5877s this is what we showed off in the uh in
5878s the jam
5880s vlog uh we got like uh kind of what i
5882s feel like the problem with a lot of the
5884s original
5885s cities that came out with correct was
5887s everywhere every building kind of looks
5889s the same
5890s which i kind of touched on earlier
5893s and a way of fixing that would be to add
5895s a multi materiality to the houses so
5897s rather than everything's made of wood
5899s everything you know there's milk but
5900s it's wood bits of stone even though the
5902s roof kits as well there's like variation
5905s i mean just look around you see like
5907s every house is generally quite different
5909s and that variety makes it feel logical
5912s and like it grew and evolved naturally
5914s with the way currently pisgrelis i
5916s suppose the other houses did look
5918s they felt
5919s very
5920s manufactured like it was all built at
5922s the same time with the exact same
5923s architect and they all have the exact
5925s same view and it makes it very
5927s artificial and doesn't feel
5929s homely or
5931s welcoming
5935s uh cool i think i've got some imagery of
5939s yeah the actual in-game as well so this
5941s is a rough gray box just taking
5943s something uh already existing kits and
5945s also an attempt to sort of thin out the
5948s current pistorius care maker just a bit
5950s more versatile uh the current problem
5952s with the pistols kit is that it takes up
5954s the full tile even though it's like a
5955s wooden board
5957s kind of uh wall kit you'd kind of expect
5959s to be able to take up the same tile as
5961s the wall kit because you can't it makes
5963s buildings far larger than they need to
5964s be because every wall needs to be a
5966s meter thick effectively uh so thinking
5968s out that wall kit will make it feel a
5970s lot more like at any other place in
5971s runescape and also just gives us more
5973s variety in combining it with other
5975s rockets so we can have that multi
5976s materiality to each building so we have
5978s like a base of stone and then maybe
5980s there's built wood on top of it
5981s and then they've got like hay or slate
5983s roofs on top of that as well so just
5984s that sort of variety to just really
5987s build into the just the theme and
5990s you know just make it feel like a place
5993s uh you can see to the far here the far
5996s north there's a set of slums uh that's
5998s still very grey box but the idea that
6001s we're sort of trying to get across here
6002s is that it's
6003s it's a bit like my ditch everything's
6004s really pushed together they don't have a
6006s lot of space to live there
6008s you know
6009s they're poor and you know there's like
6013s what you'd expect from that sort of
6014s region so you can really get each up
6016s part of the map and you like you know
6017s exactly where you are the
6019s to the east of that area there's that
6021s house which uh apparently it's currently
6023s a fishing shop and around that's the
6025s sand worms that part would stay the same
6026s largely
6028s uh again there's i think that's where
6029s the anglers the spots are as well not a
6031s fan of that it kind of seems a bit
6033s strange fishing anglers right on the
6034s coast they're usually like notoriously
6037s deep deep water fish
6039s so the fact that they're swimming around
6040s in the shallows there seems a little
6041s strange if you build putting like a dock
6043s out to the side maybe get a boat like a
6047s offshore
6048s fishing colony sort of thing to actually
6049s fish the anglers might be a mathematic
6051s way of doing that
6053s um and that leads us on to the next bit
6055s which is the the ship
6057s shipyard in the top right of the image
6059s there see this
6061s is also a bit of content that uh we're
6063s thinking of improving apparently this
6065s release has
6067s has the
6069s the crafting favorite activity where you
6070s go around fixing cranes the cranes
6073s aren't really being used but then they
6074s get broken again it's all so very
6076s strange and you don't really feel like
6078s yeah you're really doing much we wanted
6080s to give a bit more purpose to that
6081s content and actually maybe fill in a few
6083s gaps we know that crafting probably uh
6086s it's probably lacking lacking skills so
6088s having like a low-level crafting
6090s training method here would be a really
6091s nice uh
6092s nice piece of content uh especially if
6094s it uh
6095s it feels those gaps that currently
6098s currently have
6099s um i think that is
6101s everything that i had to talk about in
6103s terms of this previous
6105s rework uh
6107s yeah
6108s i mean that well you know very quick
6110s rundown of it
6112s yeah if there's any questions or
6113s anything
6116s uh yeah we have a few questions that
6118s have come in and that we put together
6120s and so just jumping over to the first
6122s one is uh will the poor piscarellis
6124s update affect artifact stealing i want
6126s to still be able to trap the guards
6130s uh yeah as i said this is a it's
6131s important to you know retain any matters
6134s uh it would also be a good opportunity
6135s to maybe apply some quality of life to
6137s the artifact stealing uh
6139s content as well um anything that the
6141s players might you know find annoys about
6143s their content that would be a good
6144s opportunity to fix it
6146s but ultimately we don't want to change
6147s it too much as is established way of
6150s training
6151s uh see ya
6152s definitely
6154s yeah that's fairly reasonable um going
6157s into another thing about xpn training
6159s for the crafting at the shipyard what
6162s sort of discrepancy are you aiming for
6164s with the xp bar and gp per hour
6166s when bringing in your own materials
6168s versus using those at the port will both
6170s approaches be viable
6172s yes so i spoke to the designer it's kind
6174s of like a we kind of worked on this uh
6176s as a group we had like
6178s some people working on the purpose
6179s release part of the update and then a
6180s bunch of people doing the twisted tails
6182s uh this was worked on by bottoming so
6184s i've gotten some of his uh
6186s input on this on this question
6188s um
6189s he kind of expects it to be
6191s fitting as like a way of making money
6193s before the agility pyramid at a low
6195s level and then if you start bringing in
6196s your own materials
6198s uh it'll be like a late game money maker
6200s so it has like a presence in the early
6202s game as well as a presence later on once
6204s you've uh leveled up and
6207s you've got them all of your materials
6210s that's also sounds like you're thinking
6212s about a lot of different places that
6214s something can be useful at
6216s another question here a little bit
6218s different will captain callum be renamed
6220s or changed
6222s that's a great question uh at this point
6224s i think all of his dialogue's been
6226s stripped so he's no longer
6227s you know saying the mean quotes from
6232s lovely real life khalid
6234s uh but i think at this point he's kind
6236s of established that name he's uh
6239s he's i think he's one of the medium clue
6240s scroll guys so
6242s i think at this point his name might
6244s have to stay but
6245s i mean maybe the that reference is a bit
6247s lost at this point
6249s sure if it's that much finishing

6255s uh is there still a place to back
6257s anglers on that side of the water or do
6260s we have to make the trek all the way to
6262s the bank with the new layout
6264s uh we definitely make sure that the
6267s previous like distance from spot to bank
6269s would be the same
6271s as you know or maybe a little bit
6273s shorter depending on what the play is
6274s like uh we don't want to make things
6276s arbitrarily harder or more awkward this
6279s is about improving things rather than
6280s making things worse so
6282s uh ideally it would either be the same
6284s or better

6329s redesign of zaya and uh where we did all
6332s five houses for some reason we did all
6334s five houses in one go
6336s and i got to qa that and it it it was a
6339s lot of fun just kind of
6340s taking something that was built and
6342s bringing it into kind of like a more
6344s modern way that we build the game and as
6347s we've seen with the other two reworks
6348s that mod west has kind of designed and
6350s we've already put in
6352s it's
6352s it's very visible it's something he
6354s actively cares about and thinks about
6356s when he makes his stuff
6358s and all i can say is like where's the
6360s other two houses like let's get them all
6362s done
6364s yeah it's insane if you go back and look
6366s at the original map
6368s everyone does this comparison it's like
6370s it's transformed a lot and it's
6373s significantly better it feels much more
6375s like it's part of old school
6377s and compared to what ultimately was
6380s a bunch of mistakes that was made
6382s originally
6384s it's looking a lot better and it's i
6386s mean you don't need to look at what
6388s happened to shazian
6390s in
6391s in 2021 to see how much better these
6394s places can get from what it used to be
6396s and kind of all dates still back to that
6399s original very uh like very early on like
6402s gentle tractors
6403s zero redesign map that that
6406s everyone i think saw it on stage
6410s i i think people really underestimate
6412s kind of like as much as xayah's kind of
6414s seen as a big relatively empty land
6416s which we've improved in the meantime
6419s like to put it into some sort of scale
6421s you think of like the castle wars arena
6424s is uh like one map square
6427s zea as a whole before we added kevos
6431s and such was 88 map squares
6435s in the original design
6437s like 15 to 20 of those may have been
6439s like coastline and things like that but
6442s yeah when in the grand scheme of things
6444s it's such a massive undertaking that
6447s i i think west has done amazing with
6452s awesome um
6454s well
6455s very much on that topic we have added
6458s we've added some questions there over
6460s the years if you run the original launch
6462s came with
6463s with zero zero quests and there's now a
6466s whole story line in the um with each of
6469s the house quests
6470s leading all the way up to a kingdom
6472s divided which we launched last year so
6474s definitely check that out if you haven't
6475s already it kind of really sets up the
6477s story
6478s and
6479s beyond that there's been a couple of
6481s small quests like
6483s um what's it called the headquest
6486s getting ahead that's the one
6490s which is
6491s one of those kind of like iconic
6493s old-school quests that just fills that
6494s area and gives it purpose um by telling
6497s a little story just helping out some npc
6500s with his of his problem and
6502s he doesn't take itself too seriously as
6504s a quest

6550s twisted tails
6552s so twisted
6553s short standalone quests set in corinde
6556s and kevos
6557s we
6558s first
6559s think it was two years ago we did the
6561s first of these uh getting ahead
6564s and uh we didn't end up doing any last
6566s year because we focused on the kingdom
6568s divided so for the game jam this year
6570s quite a few of us were very keen to uh
6573s to get a few more twisted tales uh on
6576s the go it's something that uh
6578s a lot of people have been requesting
6580s from us can we see some more twisted
6581s tales so uh yes they're here this is
6584s what we've done in our game jam so
6587s we came up with a few uh a few different
6589s ideas and there's a
6591s um one big one we're gonna talk about
6593s and then a couple of other potential
6595s ideas as well so if we uh
6598s hop over to the next slide
6601s we're going to talk about the garden of
6603s death very uh very very ominous so
6607s one of the things i think about like
6608s quests in runescape is that there's not
6610s like one single thing that defines them
6613s we have such a huge variety of quests
6616s and uh
6617s i think twisted tales are a great way
6619s for us to like explore that
6621s so we're getting ahead we did something
6622s like super humorous like something
6625s richard king's like sort of like patrol
6626s stuff of a penguin stuff
6628s and with this one we want to do
6630s something that focuses a lot more on the
6632s exploration so we're getting rid of all
6635s the npcs there's no cutscenes there's
6636s not actually even any dialogue in this
6638s quest at all not the traditional sense
6640s at least uh not something you see in
6642s many uh quests just like like elemental
6644s workshop i think uh
6645s like strip it away that much
6647s and instead it is very much focused on
6650s this uh discovery we're going uh
6653s back in time we're not actually going
6655s back in time not literally
6656s metaphorically we're going back in time
6658s to uh far far beyond any uh any period
6661s of current history we've explored yet so
6663s this is before zurich before the
6665s darkhold before any of that
6667s focusing on this ancient race that lived
6669s there a
6670s long long time ago this race has a
6673s long since disappeared and in this quest
6675s we're going to be discovering uh why
6677s they disappeared and how they
6679s disappeared uh and it's all about uh
6682s using their language so if we head over
6684s to the uh the next side we should have
6686s an image
6689s so
6690s this looks like a load of gibberish
6692s probably because it is a load of
6693s gibberish uh spoilers uh it's all made
6696s up none of it's actually real um but
6698s this is basically the kind of thing that
6700s you'll be discovering in this quest this
6703s gibberish this ancient language and then
6705s hopefully maybe translating it to work
6707s out what on what on gillin or it means
6710s uh so we head over to the next image
6714s the goal will be sort of go around
6715s exploring these ancient ruins of this
6717s race and discovering words so here's a
6720s few words that somebody discovered
6721s already but you can see there's a lot
6722s more they have question marks next to
6724s them basically the way this will work is
6726s there's that attempt translation button
6728s at the bottom every time you think
6729s you've discovered what a new translation
6731s might be you just hit that button type a
6733s word in and see if you got it right and
6735s uh as you can see there some words have
6737s multiple translations so there's gonna
6740s be a little bit of interpretation going
6742s on as well see if you can work out uh
6744s what actually happened to this race
6746s but yeah that is the uh
6748s garden of death i won't say anymore in
6750s case we do end up deciding to go ahead
6751s with this because i don't want to spoil
6753s anything um
6754s but uh
6756s yeah as mentioned
6757s there was a few other ideas as well uh
6760s we focused mainly on the gun of death
6761s but we'll still have a little chat about
6763s a few of the other ones
6764s and most of these are sort of more
6766s focused on the
6767s uh i guess the humorous side kind of
6770s like getting ahead but some of them are
6771s a couple of dark twists so uh first up
6774s we've got an inside job so
6776s with this quest it's uh
6779s sort of um
6781s making light of a fact that we have a
6782s game with a where the skill thieving
6784s exists and the player is generally
6786s portrayed as like a good person but then
6788s you just go rob with 50 guards or
6790s something like that so you've been hired
6792s to perform a robbery
6793s but then you also get hired to catch a
6796s thief
6797s and things get a little bit a little bit
6799s problematic when uh
6801s when you're trying to catch yourself
6803s next up we've got grand mars kisses so
6805s very simple someone's lost her pet nice
6808s and straightforward can you find it
6809s again but there's a little little grim
6812s twist to this one where
6814s things get a little bit unfortunate
6815s we'll say no more but instead we'll talk
6818s about making ends meet so
6820s this one is uh
6822s very interesting water's gone pink
6824s what's that all about is the strange
6826s local butcher involved uh
6828s this one in particular i mean something
6830s a little bit in all of them is uh sort
6831s of like you go to lands then this is
6833s butcher there he's a bit of an
6835s interesting chap and we're just like can
6837s we start to uh take some of these
6839s interesting characters we've got in
6840s corend and kevos and uh start telling
6842s more stories about them
6844s um yes those are the uh the other
6847s twisted tail ideas quite keen to see uh
6850s people like regard to death would they
6851s prefer we explore one of these ones
6852s instead would they prefer we do
6854s something else completely different i'm
6855s sure the chat right now is uh swimming
6857s all sorts of things worry about raids
6859s free actually instead of quests but uh
6862s yeah
6862s there we go there's some uh twisted tail
6864s ideas
6868s super exciting and
6870s knowing what you're alluding to makes it
6872s so much funnier
6873s than the way you describe the subscribe
6875s to the stories it's
6877s it's wonderful and i love these these
6880s are always to me what i kind of ex when
6882s you experience old school it's these
6883s little quests that kind of bring the
6885s world to life and introduce you to all
6887s the weird and wonderful characters
6889s across the game that are not necessarily
6892s part of the bigger and more sort of
6893s brand epic storylines
6895s but just simply you know down to the
6898s basics the cook needs a cake because
6900s he's a crap
6902s like you know it's
6904s all that sort of stuff's great and it's
6906s wonderful to see more and getting ahead
6908s did
6909s that job wonderfully and
6911s when that was added a couple of years
6912s ago and so
6915s let's get to some of the questions uh
6917s that have been coming up and
6920s one of these questions was about
6923s favor i know it's one of your favorite
6924s topics yet but could twist the tales
6926s include favorite certificates that apply
6928s to any house
6930s like line of correnders this could be a
6932s great way to help players skip that
6934s favor grind

6940s answer the question first before
6941s beginning my favorite um
6943s yeah absolutely i think as long as the
6945s quest makes sense like uh
6948s it wouldn't want to like feel arbitrary
6950s it's like a random fave certificate but
6951s i think as long as it made sense so i
6953s mean you know maybe in hindsight getting
6955s ahead would have probably been a good
6956s one like you're helping a couple of
6957s farmers they give a favor certificate
6959s for well they could give it for
6961s hassidius in particular but even one
6963s that applied to any house would probably
6964s still work whereas
6966s garden of death uh maybe it wouldn't
6968s work for that one
6969s uh but yeah it's absolutely something we
6971s could do so there's the answer now on to
6973s the rant um
6975s let's just delete it instead

7012s of that content is awesome and there's
7015s been so much more awesome content at it
7016s since and even now all these years later
7018s that favor system is still lingering
7020s over all of it it's not actually
7023s particularly hard it's not even that
7025s time consuming
7026s but it's just this tedious thing that
7028s does not
7029s it does not fit
7031s anything else in the game really nothing
7033s else works that way it feels so
7036s not old-school even the fact that it has
7038s its own interface like its own like you
7040s like big pop up on the screen like it
7042s just feels so tacked on
7045s so honestly i think we shouldn't be
7048s giving out favor certificates for quest
7050s i think we should be getting rid of
7051s favor altogether not getting rid of any
7053s actual content i think we should just
7055s move all that around rebounce it maybe
7057s around the quest achievement diary turn
7059s some of them into like their own
7060s skilling methods um
7062s yeah there you go there's a rant not
7064s twisted tail released at all but you
7066s asked me the question i i couldn't
7068s resist um
7070s let's let's talk about i know it's a
7071s topic you feel passionate on
7073s um i saw a comment in the chat that made
7076s me sort of chuckle
7078s why why do all the ancient races use the
7080s same font
7086s that
7088s that is the uh
7090s that's not just for saying
7092s half of them use not just so far but the
7095s exact same style of like uh like stone
7098s or whatever they're writing
7100s um
7102s maybe there's a quest in that somewhere
7106s how how how meta are you getting once
7108s you start making quests about our ui
7111s design
7114s we could add a new font like we can add
7116s new fonts we could potentially get a new
7118s font if we wanted to uh

7123s the cheat answer is that that's a nice
7126s font to read and if we start adding new
7127s stylized fonts for each race then it
7129s maybe becomes hard to read but being
7132s universe answer who knows who knows why
7135s this mysterious ancient rice
7137s if they're using all the same characters

7143s make some official laura it's like why
7144s does everyone use the same characters

7159s will the puzzles be unique for each

7162s uh they won't this time i i know that's
7165s something that i've been quite a big fan

7168s making adding a bit of randomization
7170s keeping people on my toes but for
7172s something like this it would have been a
7174s bit much to
7175s start making like multiple different
7177s translations and stuff like that so it's
7179s not randomized so i guess this is one of
7181s those ones where
7184s if you
7184s aren't interested in engaging it'd be
7187s very easy to do with a guide uh well as
7189s mentioned no dialogues no space barring
7191s this time um but i guess that's you know
7194s it's fine to be honest there's no
7196s problem with people uh using a guide the
7198s reason we like to make puzzles
7199s randomized isn't actually particularly
7201s to stop people using a guide it's more
7203s just to make things more fun and more
7205s interesting

7207s so now they won't be randomized but
7210s i think for anyone who wants to actually
7212s engage with a puzzle doesn't want to use
7213s a guide they should still be a lot of
7214s fun there and yeah for anyone who does
7216s uh you can uh get through it nice and

7304s very different types of quest like
7305s compared to the
7307s the normal big sort of epic dragon
7309s slayer twos and of the world like those
7311s are great
7313s but we also need these smaller things
7315s that bring the world to life and it
7316s gives you a chance to play a completely
7318s sort of different gameplay which is what

7336s has kind of really driven our game and

7340s i i i honestly think we probably do it a
7343s lot better than most other
7345s games in the same genre where they are
7346s such a variety and it's not like go here
7349s and kill seven of this and go here and
7351s of that well admittedly
7352s we've turned that into a skill as
7354s opposed to a bunch of quests but
7357s yeah
7357s i think it really sets us apart in
7359s building the world into what players
7361s kind of come to love and appreciate
7365s yeah absolutely agreed man
7367s okay
7368s next pitch time and for the next one we
7371s are going to be looking
7372s at one of the classic old school skills
7375s of wood cutting

7390s awesome well let's get straight into it
7392s we're cutting way of the forester
7394s alrighty so yeah where the forester this
7397s is an extension of core woodcutting not
7399s a mini game
7400s and its focus is mainly on xp and
7402s resources though there are some nice
7403s things to get
7405s um so if you go to the next slide please
7411s so the intro quest for this
7413s when you're chopping oak trees and
7414s upwards you'll have a chance to find a
7416s leafy note which remarks on your
7418s woodcutting ability and gives a cryptic
7420s clue to a location when you go there
7422s you'll meet the freaky forester and
7424s begin your forestry training
7425s from that you'll obtain a forestry kit
7428s which is a back item and is required for
7430s interacting with forestry mechanics so
7432s we jump to the next slide
7437s so the goals of this then firstly
7439s we want to get woodcutters actively
7441s moving about the world again woodcutting
7443s is pretty static right now most people
7444s just sit in the woodcutting guild it's
7446s taking place out of the world where they
7448s used to be
7449s we want to look at getting more social
7451s group playing cooperation into the skill
7453s in the game in general
7454s so firstly address resource competition
7457s because that's bad for socializing
7458s introduce ways to woodcut together
7460s regardless of your level
7462s provide emergent interactions from
7464s certain things that crop up in the world
7466s while you're woodcutting and in general
7468s just make it so that you're glad to see
7469s other woodcutters
7471s i also want to introduce some horizontal
7472s progression to skill so through unlocks
7475s within forestry itself and also some
7476s interactions with other skills
7478s provide meaningful
7480s uses for logs and sinks across all the
7482s tiers of logs not just the the best logs
7485s that you can get
7486s and stimulate the economy around
7487s woodcutting and finally improve the
7489s interaction between wood cutting and
7491s other skills so there will be some
7492s interaction between players likely
7494s through the ground exchange but further
7496s stimulate the economy and get
7498s non-woodcutters contributing to the
7499s woodcutting ecosystem
7501s we jump to the next slide
7504s so group tree cutting then this is like
7505s the foundation of it
7507s so to encourage group play and rejoice
7509s reduce resource competition
7511s uh we're looking at scaling giving a
7514s scaling wood cutting bonus while you're
7515s cutting trees scaled by the number of
7517s players cutting the same tree
7519s up to a reasonable cap
7521s as well as changing how they despawn so
7524s instead of having a chance to despawn
7526s when you
7527s get a log it has a chance it will
7529s despawn instead on a timer which is
7531s extended by the number of players so
7533s more people on a tree is a better time
7535s for everyone so we've got two options
7536s there we can change all the trees but
7538s that's potentially a big sweeping change
7540s to a core mechanic of runescape so the
7542s other option is adding mighty trees
7544s which are trees that have a chance to
7546s spawn once the tree cut down is cut down
7548s and they have those group mechanics
7550s instead
7551s next slide please
7555s so events when you're cutting down trees
7558s there will be a chance for an event to
7559s spawn
7560s as long as you're not in the wood
7561s cutting guild and the chance is
7563s increased by the number of players cut
7564s the tree the tree lifetime and whether
7566s it's a mighty variant
7568s these events are best done with other
7569s players and the xp you gain from
7572s interacting that event is scaled by your
7573s woodcutting level so you don't just have
7575s to camp the high level trees
7577s and there's a certain level of
7578s progression in these events as well and
7580s unlocks you can get
7581s you jump to the next slide
7586s so here's
7587s some rough examples of potential events
7589s in nice visual tables
7592s uh they're rough ideas but some examples
7594s a friendly ant maybe you the tree you're
7596s chopping turns out to be an end that you
7598s need to prune and
7599s bring it prune some leaves off make it
7602s feel better
7603s and maybe you tickle it and it starts uh
7605s hitting everyone around you knock you
7606s back or maybe you find a beehive while
7608s you're chopping down a tree you need to
7609s re-home them by building as many
7611s temporary bee boxes as possible and then
7613s the beekeeper random event will come and
7615s collect them and from that maybe have a
7617s chance to get some parts to build their
7618s own your own bee box in your player and
7620s house
7621s or maybe you find a leprechaun in a tree
7623s it will bank some wood cutting items for
7625s you then you stay out in the field
7626s longer or maybe the tree was enchanted
7628s by fairy magic if you follow that trail
7630s it will lead you to a tree that gives
7632s logs a tier above its normal
7634s the next slide please
7640s so here's a nice uh
7642s visual overview of the event how events
7644s work so on the left you've got a group
7646s of players chopping down a tree they're
7647s having a great time they're getting
7648s their wood cutting bonus they've got
7649s their duration on the tree because we're
7650s chuffing it together
7652s and then there's a chance to spawn an
7654s event so on the
7655s top right they've cut the tree down and
7657s they've discovered a disease ring in the
7659s tree so they're going to go search for
7661s the source of that disease which may be
7662s some pesky little mushrooms that they've
7664s got to fight
7666s in the bottom right while they're
7667s chopping the tree they discovered a
7668s beehive and they've got to re-home those
7670s bees and in the bottom left they
7672s unfortunately didn't find an event that
7673s time if they did find an event they'd
7675s earn some wood cutting currency and some
7677s event specific rewards as well as xp
7679s scale where they would cut and level
7681s the next slide
7685s so some items you can get so the core
7687s items are
7689s a new currency used at vendors for
7692s rewards so maybe something like animal
7694s infused buck
7695s tree leaves so we've got leaves in the
7697s game from farming but i'm proposing we
7699s add leaves to all trees that you can get
7701s while chopping them and they're used
7703s in
7705s purchasing rewards and then of course
7706s the forestry kit which is a core item
7708s you can wear in your back slot and it
7709s holds upgrades which will come to you
7711s next some other potential rewards
7713s although again not the focus but maybe
7715s you can get a log basket that carries
7717s more logs maybe you can get some
7719s medieval forester fashion scape maybe
7721s 200 axes that are slower give less logs
7723s but more xp
7725s maybe a bit of strength xp while you're
7726s chopping barbarian would cut in anyone
7729s maybe some seed packs for farming or a
7731s sawmill voucher that you can use at the
7733s sawmill for extra bonus points
7735s on the next slide
7739s so it's forestry kit items then this is
7741s like the core of the itemization in this
7743s and is the main thing to buy and these
7745s will feed back into forestry and what
7748s you purchase these with the new
7749s woodcutting currency as well as multiple
7751s tiers of blocks
7753s and these are all tradable they're all
7755s sellable and granite exchange or
7756s purchasable and with those components
7758s you can craft new items which are again
7761s tradable
7762s and they're also consumables and they
7764s stack so you can store them in your
7765s forestry kit and every time you do
7767s something that consumes one it will
7769s consume it so you've got to keep
7770s stocking up so it keeps those items
7772s always in demand and it would operate a
7774s bit like the tackle box
7776s so effects would include unlocking new
7778s events and rewards so for example to get
7780s the leprechaun event to spawn you'd need
7781s to have some forester's lucky charms
7784s uh it would also give some wood cutting
7786s utility like energy restore and chop jam
7788s a tree maybe a way to restore your
7790s lumberjack outfit
7792s and also some other options like
7793s changing how you get yield versus xp
7796s if you want more leaves or logs if you
7797s want to find extra resources maybe you
7798s want to get seeds when you're chopping a
7800s tree all sorts of things like that and
7801s also ideally some other uses and skills
7805s next slide
7809s so here's another another visual
7810s overview the items of the economy so you
7814s get some woodcutting items you can trade
7815s them or purchase them directly
7817s you could then craft them using all
7818s sorts of cooking smithing crafting
7820s there's a whole host of skills that are
7822s required for this
7824s and again you can trade those crafted
7826s items
7827s and then at the end you can use those as
7829s mentioned to get wood cutting utility
7830s and unlocks in forestry
7832s the next slide
7836s so aside from events there are a couple
7838s other components to forestry the first
7840s one is the forester's campfire so this
7842s is an activity of low intensity downside
7845s downtime between other activities so you
7847s can use your leaves and burn them on a
7848s fire to get a forester's campfire any
7851s player can rest at it to gain a small
7852s gathering skill bonus or you can eat at
7855s it whereby you consume a forester's
7857s ration which you crafted in the last
7859s step
7860s and that will give you a larger bonus as
7861s well as restoring a bit of energy
7863s the bonus is scaled slightly by the leaf
7865s tea used to burn the next slide
7871s another visual example here on the left
7873s you've got a group of people fishing
7874s there's someone woodcutting and a nice
7876s player has decided to use
7878s their leaves to burn on the fire to
7880s create a forester's campfire and
7882s everyone flocks around to get their
7883s gathering skill bonus and have a little
7885s chat about the weather
7886s everyone's having fun
7889s next slide
7891s and the final thing in forestry is tea
7893s brewing so this would be
7895s a
7896s using the herb law skill
7897s and is a the main use for leads
7900s and the way this works is it's a free
7902s form method of crafting so instead of
7904s having set recipes that you use the same
7906s leaves for every time each leaf has a
7908s property
7909s a certain
7910s potency in like in this example combat
7912s production gathering power and duration
7915s and how you combine that affects what
7917s the t does so you can buy those leaves
7919s in any way you want to create a t
7921s that's custom to you
7924s and we could add other utility and niche
7925s effects to this but the main thing is
7927s just like the proposal for this kind of
7929s exploration of crafting
7931s um there'd be a max number of leaves of
7933s course but um
7934s yeah and that would affect the potency
7937s and the other thing is instead of like
7939s potions where they periodically restore
7941s these would be the full boost for the
7942s duration and then immediately drop off
7945s of course the issue there is we also
7947s don't want to compete with potions so
7949s we'd have to explore what niche they
7950s feel exactly and where they sit but
7953s it's just a rough proposal
7955s and yeah that's forestry in a nutshell
7962s huge food of squid it's really really
7964s thoroughly well thought out presentation
7967s lovely diagrams and
7970s the
7972s kind of the bots around the trees
7975s uh i love it all i think it was really
7977s well laid out and communicated
7980s it's a huge well done on that front and
7983s i have rock you want to go into some
7984s some questions
7986s yeah i was i was going to say like um
7989s if like players can get hold of this uh
7992s like these slides and stuff like that so
7994s they can have a bit more of a look
7995s through themselves as well as like
7997s recapping the video there's a lot of
7998s information to get in there but it's
8000s really well thought out
8003s information that's
8004s on point for what is being explained
8007s throughout it so kudos to that it's
8010s as karen said it's really well thought
8011s out and amazing to see

8018s how often could we expect mighty trees
8020s to spawn is this something we'd be
8022s farming constantly
8023s one might want one mighty tree to the
8026s next or a nice surprise while training
8028s with cutting normally
8031s so yeah if we go with the mighty tree
8033s option then as mentioned there'd be a
8034s chance to spawn when you cut down any
8036s tree so it'd be a nice surprise but they
8039s would be pretty regular because it's a
8040s core part of making it social so
8043s yeah you can expect them often but it
8044s would be a random chance
8048s um and then embracing the british and
8050s all of us will the teas from forestry
8052s stand alone
8054s or will there be any opportunity to
8056s infuse them or combine them with various
8058s ingredients and potions to kind of
8060s go even further
8063s yeah we can totally do that i'm all for
8065s increasing the interaction of other
8066s skills so yeah thinking of interesting
8068s ways to combine other items and skills
8071s into that would be awesome um just need
8073s to ensure everything is useful in some
8074s capacity really maybe they could have
8076s some cosmetic or novelty uses i don't
8078s know
8079s yeah definitely

8134s had their point where they would be
8135s sitting there at drain or willows and
8138s asking everyone their fishing level
8139s despite nobody actually there to fish
8142s and things like that just kind of
8143s bringing some more community aspects
8145s back into
8146s the general game players so it's kind of
8149s been lost over time yeah as more and
8151s more content comes in because there's so
8152s much more diverse things to do and how
8154s players think about things a lot of
8156s players kind of think about
8158s how can i get to where i want to be the
8160s fastest like we have a lot of quests in
8162s game which lets us skip a bunch of the
8164s early section of the game
8165s but in order to be able to bring stuff
8167s like that back into the mid into the
8169s late section of the game is
8171s hats off to squidward putting that
8173s together yeah i you you had elements
8176s like back in the day from the original
8178s random events from the ends with the
8180s tree would you have these little wavy
8181s arms and your axe head would fall off
8184s like you had kind of random events that
8185s interacted with woodcutting directly
8188s absolutely they weren't designed for
8190s this kind of gameplay they were very
8192s much designed for
8193s trying to stop bots but
8196s you know it's
8197s wonderful to see that sort of brought
8198s back because random events are a part of
8201s our game in general
8202s um
8204s but they're all quite dated in the sense
8205s right it's awesome to see sort of
8207s specifically created events that can
8209s happen within the skill that can make it
8211s a little bit more interesting and
8214s i know there's different prevailing
8215s views on this like
8217s but
8218s i hate that you kind of have to hop for
8221s your own world at trees and stuff like
8223s that i like it it's great to be able to
8224s be in the same space as others talk to
8226s each other and actually do some stuff
8228s together uh because
8230s it kind of is a very single player mmo
8232s if you want to direct people to empty
8234s mines and empty trees and all that all
8236s the time

8286s second card game
8288s themed game jam idea but this is a
8291s classic tcg in terms of people that are
8294s familiar with stuff like magic and
8296s pokemon who
8297s i am myself a big player of
8299s um so yeah as you can see i threw my
8301s very first card because i've been
8303s working on this a bit longer than the
8304s game jam
8305s uh
8306s was around for um that was my very first
8309s card i've decorated my backing with
8310s loads of other ones that i've done
8312s um so i'll probably share them on
8314s twitter later or something but yeah like
8316s let's crack into it what is the tcg
8320s um it's a fun new distraction and
8322s diversion a nice little accompaniment uh
8325s or what i want it to be
8327s alongside all other bits of content um
8330s so you know you can be skilling or you
8333s know killing your slayer task or doing
8335s whatever you want
8336s and you can do this on the side as well
8339s and it combines that lovely
8340s quick paced element uh of a tcg um with
8344s that lovely collecting side which i i i
8347s love personally um it's very easy to
8350s learn hard to master
8353s that's because of the nature of it every
8354s all the play tests that we've done so
8356s far
8357s everyone has picked it up within one
8358s game
8360s which is a good stein
8362s there's definitely the biggest bit i was
8364s worried about getting the flow of the
8365s game right and it seems to be good um
8367s but there's going to be countless deck
8368s combinations we're starting off very
8370s small which i'll touch on in a little
8372s bit but we're gonna
8373s hopefully grow
8375s uh and it would accommodate all account
8376s types by free to play members to begin
8379s with
8380s uh so if we can go on to the next slide
8382s i can explain a bit more about how it
8384s works
8384s um this is a handy mock-up
8387s um that i did just to give you a sort of
8389s idea of how it would play in the game
8391s or how it would look in the game so at
8393s the bottom you've got the nice chat box
8394s that will tell you what's going on um
8396s it's a very simple
8398s um to understand game uh you have four
8401s actions in the turn and with those
8403s actions you can use your equipment cards
8405s uh to attach onto your player and
8407s increase their strength and defense give
8409s you some other bonuses uh and you can
8411s also use item cards to benefit you or
8414s hinder your opponent
8416s so there's a nice mix in there and it's
8418s a simple basically your strength minus
8419s their defense takes away x amount of hit
8422s points from them uh and then the added
8424s spice is the bit in the middle uh which
8427s you can see the little skull which is
8429s the event deck so after the first two
8432s turns are taken so one one each player
8434s has taken the turn uh the event deck
8437s will flip and you will have to
8440s choose one of the options on the event
8442s deck that will affect you so it could be
8445s bad could be really good um you yourself
8447s will have to put three cards into the
8450s event deck of a stance so there'll be a
8451s standard five card event deck and each
8454s player will put three in there that
8455s shuffle ready for the game um 40 card
8457s deck and a character card so total about
8460s 44 cards for each deck
8462s um yeah so if we move on to the next
8465s slide i think we talked about how uh i
8467s know i added some more cards for little
8469s spice so there's just some uh free
8470s equipment cards uh free item cards two
8473s character cards and
8475s two uh event cards down there so
8478s some lovely artwork provided by a friend
8480s of mine
8480s um
8482s yeah
8483s good stuff
8484s um so
8485s where do you find the tcg
8487s uh barrock uh there's some rumors going
8490s around varrock you know you're hearing
8491s some some crazy things happening a new
8494s craze has hit the town uh so you want to
8496s go and investigate and check out what's
8497s going on you find a mysterious merchant
8500s called tzg
8502s he's entered the city and he's trying to
8504s flog his wares
8505s um
8506s and you know he he's not doing too well
8509s you know you're hearing sprinkles of it
8511s but he wants more so he enlists the help
8513s of an adventurer
8515s like you
8516s to come and help spread the word so
8519s in return he'll teach you how to play
8520s the game and give you a one of four
8522s starter decks which you'll have the
8523s choice of choosing and then you can
8525s pretty much go off and play so that'd be
8527s quite a simple quest straightforward uh
8530s quite nice easy tutorial and then you'll
8532s get access to tzg's card arena so uh
8536s what is the card arena um well it's
8539s probably the heart of uh the card game
8541s itself um i need to change it on this
8543s slide but it's one of three areas in the
8545s game uh where you can actively challenge
8548s people uh most other places i would like
8550s you to be able to
8552s sort of
8553s join a queue on and then you could play
8556s anyone around
8558s uh in the in the same world as you uh
8560s but these three places which will be
8562s tcg's
8563s card arena the birth games room and pubs
8566s of course because you can't have that
8567s without pubs you can actively challenge
8570s players so that's where you can have
8572s more you know you can take on exactly
8573s who you want rather than playing someone
8574s randomly in the world
8576s so inside the card arena you've got the
8578s card shop where you can purchase some
8580s booster packs
8581s and some specific cards you also have
8585s the card exchange counter
8587s which is essentially just the trading
8589s element of it because these cards won't
8592s be physical objects everything will be
8594s tied to a system so it's not to
8596s interrupt your gameplay as like i said
8598s before it's to accompany it um so i
8601s don't want to like disrupt anything
8603s you're normally doing if you want to do
8605s it you can
8607s so yeah the contract board's a nice way
8609s to a little bit of an item sink so you
8610s know you trade x materials for a card of
8613s that type so you can get rid of some
8615s maybe materials you don't want for a
8616s card you really need
8617s um
8618s and then the tournaments posting board
8620s which won't be there straight away
8621s because i think it would be good to give
8623s it a bit of breathing room and space to
8626s for balancing and stuff but then yeah
8627s i'd love to set up some tournaments and
8629s play a run and official ones
8632s um so how do you get the cards like i
8634s said this should be a very
8636s much opt-in element um to the game you
8640s shouldn't
8640s apart from the item sink you shouldn't
8642s be able to spend gold on the cards i
8644s don't want this to become a massive gold
8646s sink or limit players that you know the
8649s more money you have the better your
8650s decks are going to be
8652s so card permits are the main thing you
8654s skilling and doing activities in the
8655s world you'll get an additional
8657s role that will give you some card
8658s permits which you can spend in the card
8660s shop uh this also goes to the same as
8662s actual like content drops
8665s so you know doing a boss or a mini game
8667s or something like that
8669s you might get a very fancy foil card
8671s from it or you know specifics
8674s again alongside that
8677s accompanying the game not hindering what
8679s you're doing already
8681s and then yeah as i say contracts and
8682s trade the other two weights
8684s um so if we go into the next slide
8688s we have why yeah i just think i mean
8690s personally i love tcgs and i love old
8693s school so combining the two just seems
8695s like a natural fit it's something i've
8696s been thinking about a long time and i
8699s had like an original iteration of this
8701s which involved quests but i don't think
8703s the flow was as nice so this is like i
8706s think the better version um it appeals
8709s to that collection aspect as well um and
8711s i think it's like a nice interesting way
8714s to revitalize content without making any
8715s major changes and maybe it gives you
8718s know incentive to make some changes to
8720s older content to you know
8722s bring a bit of life back into them and
8724s you have the cards on top which is nice
8726s uh and yeah it's just a nice little bit
8729s of extra competitive competitive element
8731s to it um which you know it's a tcg
8734s you're gonna wanna
8736s trade and battle people everywhere so
8738s yeah and then the amount of potential
8740s this is i'll just go over this briefly
8742s but i think there's like massive amount
8744s of potential to come from this
8746s from expansion sets and like the way the
8748s game is built
8749s fun and exciting new mechanics come with
8752s that right now it's very limited to
8754s lumbridge and the starting items
8756s um so those like iconic bits you come
8758s off with uh early game so then it would
8761s slowly expand out
8763s secret rares and player art something
8764s i'd like you guys to get involved with
8766s running some competitions and having
8768s some of your art featured would be cool
8770s you can do that
8771s some more official events and game modes
8774s i had the idea of a you die in the card
8776s game you die in real life
8778s so
8779s if you're losing the card game you drop
8780s all your items as well maybe losing a
8782s few cards to it as well
8784s and the game can work not only on a 1v1
8787s scale but 2v2 and 1v1 v1p1 so it's got
8791s potential to expand and yeah cosmetic
8793s rewards and along with that may be a
8795s physical card game one day if this goes
8797s well who knows
8799s um
8800s so yeah that's that's pretty much it uh
8803s yeah i've done a lot of play testing
8805s with this so far as i've set up on
8807s tabletop sim um yeah it's gone well it's
8810s done well i think so yeah
8814s a ton of effort to make a card game
8816s and get through all of that so a huge
8819s huge kudos and thanks for the
8822s obviously for the presentation too

8840s the first one i mean you touched on a
8841s little bit of sort of the cosmetic
8843s rewards but do you imagine this having
8845s reward systems that feed back into
8847s like old school more
8849s broadly i mean there's definitely the
8851s potential to um
8853s the reward side is definitely something
8855s i haven't expanded on mainly because i
8857s think the core of it is that
8859s you know getting the tcg right
8861s um because if you haven't if you've got
8863s a crap card game for example then you
8866s know
8866s the cosmetics are not going to be great
8869s either i reckon so
8870s getting the card game base was important
8872s but yeah why not i'd love to have some
8873s like even just even if they are just
8875s purely cosmetic it would be great but
8877s just some some rewards to feedback into
8879s the game somehow would be nice
8884s awesome um
8887s would the
8888s the trading card game see much upkeep
8890s after release such such things like new
8893s cards being added cards being rebalanced
8895s all those little bits
8897s i i mean i really hope so that would be
8900s my hope um again like i said originally

8946s of layer integrated into the game
8948s presents it almost as a very different

8958s sort of a unique challenge to try and

9241s i've been working on the willingness
9244s extension i worked with modisa modrok
9247s who's also here with me and mod goblin
9250s and the goal of this project was to make
9253s new content for both vp and pvm in an
9256s area that has not had a lot of updates
9259s in almost 20 years
9261s i personally i love the wilderness since
9263s there's no other area like that in the
9265s game
9266s and
9268s i am aware that this is probably a
9271s really hard task to handle or like to
9273s take on but i do believe there are
9276s solutions
9277s to make improvements to this area for
9280s both pvp
9281s and pvm
9283s and note that this is the result of a
9285s one-week game jam and if this were to
9288s ever happen expect a lot to change in
9290s order for everyone to be as happy as
9292s possible
9294s um whether or not the map itself would
9296s have to be bigger or smaller
9299s more compact or like some content
9301s extruded in like lower parts of the
9304s wilderness
9305s that would be a question for later
9307s anyway this is the id ideation
9310s um
9311s so i'm gonna quickly run uh give you a
9314s run through off the map
9315s and at the top left corner you have
9319s skelevik which in swedish means
9323s scales gala miscal in swedish and vegan
9325s means close to the water so we have
9327s scaly week
9329s and it is the almost like every
9332s place in the game has a town so why
9335s shouldn't the wilderness has a town well
9336s apart from fair oaks but an actual town
9339s so skelevik is a safe city there would
9342s be ways to teleport there it would be in
9345s deep wildy it's inhabited by framinix
9350s peakers well they wouldn't be actual
9352s peakers in the game they would be known
9354s as their killing adventures right and
9356s that is the way to survive in the
9358s wilderness so there isn't a lot of stuff
9361s to build a city with in the deep
9363s wilderness so but they're lucky though
9366s when the fremonix traveled north and
9368s built their base here they were they
9370s found the island of stocker which is
9372s inhabited by magical ants
9375s and they killed the ends to receive
9377s operands um
9379s they kill the ends to receive
9381s um
9383s material to be able to build their city
9386s and then they walk around and scale a
9388s week and you could have some really like
9390s fun conversations when
9393s talking interacting with the npcs
9395s like you talk to them and like oh what
9398s do you do for a living while i go around
9400s and i kill adventures
9401s um and it would feel like peeking is a
9403s part of the game which
9405s which i think would be fun um
9408s i do not imagine the npcs to actually be
9411s npcs that you attack they they're more
9413s like interactive with lower npcs like
9416s like any place in the city maybe some
9418s would be attackable like it could be fun
9421s right
9422s um either way
9423s so in the city there would also be a
9426s pika quest now this would be a safe
9429s novice quest with some really good like
9432s supply rewards experience rewards where
9435s you would help a youngster called
9437s matthias
9439s may on his way to becoming a
9442s top-tier adventure killer
9444s um
9446s and yeah the as i said to ensure
9450s those parties are happy the quest would
9452s be safe while also introducing you to
9455s the lore of the city in deep wilderness
9458s and to pvp
9462s so
9464s at the bottom you also see the bridge of
9466s fate now this
9468s haven't you always like you know when
9470s you kill vestion and you see that level
9472s three scout that
9474s is there and he
9477s just like waiting for the clown to log
9478s in well past the bridge of levels won't
9480s matter so you'll be able to kill that
9482s level 3 scout
9486s yeah i think

9512s new bosses and i'm going to give you a
9514s quick rundown of all of them so first
9517s you have the rat bus at level 295 as a
9521s rat rodding a rat and it would be in a
9523s single area
9525s so
9526s it would be
9527s basically a boss to imitate a peak here
9530s it would allow the
9532s pvm mirror to be geared for pvp while
9535s also pvm-ing and
9538s it would be kind of an introduction boss
9541s to pvp and kind of encourage you to
9543s learn gear swapping overhead prayers etc
9546s etc so you'd have to watch what the raft
9549s is equipping it's equipping a crossbow
9551s then it's equipping
9553s a staff and then it is equipping a sword
9557s and then
9558s how and exactly how the mechanics
9561s would work if this boss were to ever
9562s make it to the game would be a question
9564s for later
9566s um it could have some really funny draft
9568s tables one of the ideas was
9570s rat pack which would basically it would
9573s create transmog your character character
9576s into a rat
9577s and it would create two decoy rats
9579s running in two different directions
9581s and
9582s then
9583s this would have
9585s x amount of cool down
9587s and
9588s the d spawn after x amount of time
9591s and this creates a fun way to escape
9594s like tricking the pk or not knowing who
9597s to kill
9598s um
9599s the next one is the dragon vulca which
9602s would be at the top at the
9605s lava at the deathfire volcano
9608s um so actually it's been
9611s a dream of mine for like two years or
9614s more to design a dragon boss in the
9617s wilderness
9619s i used to love king black dragon back in
9620s the day and
9622s anyway to the boss so
9625s he's level 774 and it is a red dragon
9629s boss
9630s the boss itself would provide higher gp
9633s per hour than forecast
9635s and it would be a gated entrance
9637s consisting of kc or coins now whether
9641s inside the boss area would be safe or
9643s not would be a question for later and
9645s depending what the community wants the
9647s most um so some of the drops
9651s of
9652s a box like this could consist of
9659s i'm just getting my notes up i'm sorry
9662s so
9664s these are just ideas and there could be
9666s like
9668s new cool stuff or stuff would be removed
9670s whatever whatever
9673s that's fire research which would be an
9675s upgrade to dragon fire shields
9678s and a lava visage which would be a
9681s anti-fire protection in the head slot
9685s and vulcan's bow
9687s this would be an upgrade to the dark bow
9690s and it spews lava and it applies burn
9692s now my idea of burn is for it to be a
9695s new status effect similar to poison but
9699s it would also add anti-fire protection
9702s as a new um
9705s thing that you have to protect yourself
9707s in
9708s from in pvp and it could be used in pvm
9711s and
9712s like very fun scenarios as well
9715s i'd also love to see an upgrade to
9717s somewhere else after and maybe it too
9720s would apply burn

9723s you'd have to charge all of those items
9725s with volco essence which would be in
9727s essence that would be dropped from the
9729s boss similar to revenues ever
9732s as for the last boss you have the skull
9734s golem the boss is a
9736s multi boss would be a fun new multi boss
9739s similar to nex you'd be able to run to
9741s the boss through wilderness or you'd be
9744s able to pay gold to safely get escorted
9746s to the boss
9748s and
9750s it could since there is a way to get
9752s there safe it could also have maybe like
9755s a vessel slot ring because rings is kind
9758s of wilderness right and that was also an
9761s idea for wanting to make it feminic in
9763s the city because that way i could tie in
9766s ring combinations using the dk rings
9769s using the feminine glower in the
9771s wilderness kind of having like both
9773s rings
9775s um
9776s so yeah
9777s the lore of the boss it would be a
9779s failed experiment from a lunatic outcast
9782s who wanted to
9783s experiment with arceus magic and created
9787s a a summon that did not follow its
9790s orders and
9792s well now the outcast is gone
9795s um
9796s so that is for the bosses uh can i have
9798s the next image please

9805s artifice escort is a
9808s mini game or minigame kind of idea that
9812s would be around the whole wilderness
9815s and it would consist of 10 npcs
9820s which you would go to to buy artifacts

9824s artifacts would be dropped upon death
9827s and you cannot use any form of
9829s transportation while you have one in
9830s your inventory
9832s and
9833s once they're dropped on the floor they
9835s would be converted to gold which would
9837s be the same amount of gold that you
9839s bought it for
9840s now you bought an artifact you're
9842s assigned an npc you need to deliver your
9845s artifact to the npc
9847s without
9848s helping worlds without
9852s using any form of transportation and one
9854s successfully doing it you'd be rewarded
9857s points
9858s so this
9860s for minigame like this would have to
9862s have a lot of safe restrictions like
9865s once you're assigned an npc you can't
9867s drop the item get your goal back buy a
9869s new artifact you'd have to
9874s like you'd have to deliver it to that
9876s one npc until you get assigned another
9879s random npc
9881s and
9881s a reward shop from this could consist of
9884s the idea was a safe pouch which would
9887s work like a looting bag but it would not
9889s be dropped on death so likewise
9892s you can only take stuff out of the bag
9894s in a bank
9895s and it only works in the wilderness
9898s you can't store stackable items in the
9900s pouch like chinchompas and the pouch
9902s would be able to be upgraded this would
9905s have to have restrictions as well like
9907s you
9909s you can't add items to the bag while in
9911s combat etc etc unless maybe they're
9914s dropped from a boss like
9915s you get a dragon pickaxe and then maybe
9918s you could instantly put it in the bag
9919s right
9920s um but it would hold as little as two to
9923s four to six safe items so the idea of
9926s this would be
9929s well you run around you risk yourself in
9931s the wilderness you can get pk'd your
9932s artifacts can drop to the peak here but
9935s at the reward of
9937s getting the same more loots in the
9939s wilderness
9940s um
9941s so i think now

9964s alongside the other three bosses is kind
9966s of what haven't we done
9968s in old school but also what would kind
9970s of fit
9971s within the wilderness itself as well and
9973s given that the world in itself can be
9975s quite wide and expansive and you've got
9977s quite a few things that can just roam
9978s around
9980s is the idea of a world boss we
9981s originally implemented the revenant
9984s maldictus a little while back to kind of
9986s see how well that idea would work
9990s and for all intensive purposes it's
9992s created some really unique gameplay
9993s around that area
9995s like people who want to kill it and then
9998s other people that come along and want to
9999s kill them or help kill the boss and then
10001s kill the other person who gets the drop
10003s afterwards we got to see some really
10005s like engagement that we'd hoped to get
10006s out of it
10007s so with the world boss we'd like to take
10009s that a step further
10011s um we're having it spawn in multiple
10014s different places around the wilderness
10016s um completely at random
10018s um but there will be a general
10020s announcement to happen which will
10022s announce across the whole wilderness and
10024s we can look to expand it to places like
10027s edgeville and stuff like that too
10029s and with the idea of that anyone who is
10031s an editorial sees the
10033s notification
10034s then they're more likely to tell their
10036s friends kind of gear up and go out and
10038s try and take something out together or
10040s even take out the other people who are
10042s trying to take on the world boss
10045s um traditionally across other games
10047s world bosses have
10049s vast amounts of hp
10051s see in game we have something like the
10053s corp that was created as like an
10054s original world boss style
10056s thing but this is going a lot further
10059s than that we'll be looking at something
10060s like 60 000 hp
10063s even more
10064s but whereas perhaps it might not
10065s necessarily be too taxing on the player
10067s so it allows them to take a variety of
10070s gear out
10071s if people don't want to risk stuff like
10073s the old ages don't take what you don't
10075s want to risk
10076s um
10077s see it's kind of like up to you what you
10079s want to do there
10082s um
10083s with the idea that once it's killed it
10085s acts kind of like the revenant male
10087s dictators where it kind of notifies you
10089s who gets the drop
10091s and then that's kind of up to you is i'd
10093s like your team to either kind of like
10095s protect them if you're in a team if
10097s you're on your own it's part of like the
10098s escape of it
10100s or if you just turned up just as it's
10102s dying
10103s then it's up to you about whether you
10104s want to kind of like take on the guy who
10107s got the drop or take on the people
10108s protect it and kind of build in this
10111s idea that many kind of things can happen
10114s at the end result
10115s which
10116s has various different interactions
10118s between the players themselves and can
10121s give a bit more of a feel to what the
10123s wilderness used to be
10126s um potential drop tables but we're kind
10128s of like spitballing ideas if we have
10130s done for various other bosses here
10133s um thinking of things that are specific
10135s to more pvp only so if pvms want to go
10138s and kill this they can get a drop which
10139s they can sell to the pvpers and then the
10141s pvpers can use in the wilderness
10144s um
10146s and also kind of looking what we did
10147s with maldictus in
10150s killing this boss can grant x amount of
10152s people a buff within the wilderness
10154s whether that's a buffer a resource arena
10156s a buff in damage killing bosses
10159s and i've heard
10161s offs in various other places like um
10163s doesn't really need it but like xp
10164s offset places like the chaos halter and
10168s like more resources for ends etc there's
10170s quite a wide range that we can kind of
10173s go towards when it comes to this boss in
10175s particular and i think it's really
10177s exciting for us to be able to go into an
10179s avenue that we've not done yet
10182s and create something that could be an
10183s all-round experience
10185s for everyone
10187s uh if we can move on to the next slide
10189s please got a few more bits to go through
10193s um so this will go back to the start of
10195s the first image again
10198s yeah uh okay yeah go back there's a few
10200s there's a few other bits we can kind of
10202s talk about that we kind of didn't go on

10206s so
10207s just near the
10210s isle sorry the uh region of skelovic
10213s we've got a second resource area now
10216s this
10217s in one and part of our design for this
10219s area plays a big feature
10221s is that in
10223s this skilling resource this skinning
10225s area
10226s you can work as a collective to gather
10228s resources and work work with each other
10230s and
10231s kind of build up what you're doing in
10233s there either to kind of go and make
10235s money but we have a secondary option for
10237s it as well
10238s and this is where in the top right hand
10241s corner
10242s the
10244s multi-revenue caves
10246s are hosted so these revenant caves would
10249s be completely
10251s um
10252s open for combat levels because it's in
10254s this area of the wilderness but the idea
10256s is that people need to work together
10259s in the resource arena
10261s in order to essentially open the area of
10264s multi-rips
10265s so kind of like a world event for those
10267s people that have like well
10269s then they'll know
10271s um things like aq40 kind of had a world
10273s event which kind of built up in order to
10275s unlock it this is kind of a similar
10277s concept where different parts of the
10278s wilderness will allow other areas to
10281s work in so there's a bit more community
10282s bits here and there
10284s in order to open up something that
10286s people might want to do
10289s um
10290s the revenant caves would only be open
10292s for a period of time
10295s so in order to kind of force this whole
10297s cycle to go again
10299s and um working within the resource arena
10302s either to protect the people who want to
10304s skill to kill the people who want to
10305s skill to kill each other i mean if
10307s you're killing each other then i you're
10308s kind of stunting the growth the unlock
10311s of
10312s the um multi-revs
10314s but with the idea of creating some
10316s emergent gameplay that builds into
10320s something that like we does with quests
10322s and everything else just gives the world
10324s a bit more
10326s of that massively multiplayer online
10328s feel well things in the world affect
10330s various other things
10332s um what's inside multi-revs is fairly
10334s straightforward it is just reds in multi
10337s and kind of like how it used to be
10339s so
10340s i think that like multi-plans have kind
10342s of been working for which perhaps
10343s haven't serviced as much
10345s in recent times kind of get a bit more
10348s back in there
10349s along with some various other bits and
10351s bobs that we're dotting around
10353s this area as a whole
10357s uh yeah there is a couple of small other
10359s things like an impling that roams in the
10362s northern area of the wilderness an
10363s expansion to the
10365s agility arena in the wilderness as well
10367s like a tier 85 extra loop kind of like
10370s how runescape had with their um
10374s gnome area cetera things like that kind
10376s of we wanted to take
10378s a whole bunch of ideas and put them into
10381s an area
10382s um and make it feel like it's not just a
10384s massive expanse that suddenly got
10386s nothing in there so
10388s there's a lot of different things going
10390s on
10391s but there's also space for more in space
10393s that can be built up
10395s to make it feel more emergent and part
10397s of the world
10400s and
10400s ideally filling out an area that as
10402s often said at the beginning we haven't
10404s touched properly other than adding a
10406s couple of bosses
10408s almost since it began
10411s so yeah that's kind of it
10417s i mean amazingly detailed uh pitch you
10420s guys so i know there's like it was nice
10423s to see someone tackle the wilderness as
10425s uh as a project and i think you guys did
10428s a fantastic job
10429s um i think we've got a couple of
10431s questions from the chat one one of the
10432s biggest ones i saw
10434s was uh
10435s what's the why would you go on an
10437s expansion rather than reworking the
10439s current wilderness to incorporate these
10441s ideas what was the thought process
10442s behind that
10445s so i think you could do stuff to
10448s both of arias you could maybe this is
10451s way too big maybe it needs to be a lot
10453s smaller maybe needs to be well
10455s restricted who knows um
10458s either way when i quit this project i
10460s want to
10462s make a brand new area to make wilderness
10464s feel new instead of just cramping stuff
10467s into the existing wilderness um though i
10470s do think you could
10473s probably

10475s improve the regular wilderness as well

10502s weary of over we're designing but the
10504s whole point of a game gem was for us to
10506s kind of design the kind of things that
10508s we want to see
10509s and just kind of really let our
10511s creativeness flow

10515s there is a lot in there when you
10516s consider there's four bosses new
10518s mechanics that have never been in before
10521s and you've got to look at different
10522s rewards and buffs and how they work and
10524s interact with other things too
10527s um i could see this kind of update being
10530s done in segments
10532s if i'm honest

10535s as much as i'm a large landmasses and
10537s that doesn't really work for it if it
10539s didn't go in segments
10541s then i wouldn't be surprised if you're
10542s kind of looking at a six-month time
10544s frame in order to do all this or maybe
10547s even a bit more
10549s um because of its size and scope and all
10551s the different things in there it's got a
10553s quest it's got multiple skilling
10554s activities and expansions and like the
10557s bosses have said it's it's
10559s it's a massive update and i think
10561s there are very few updates we've
10563s actually done in the game that would be
10564s on
10565s this kind of scale
10570s awesome and uh have you guys thought
10572s about a pet to come from the world boss
10578s i i want the bosses to have pets
10580s personally also i think it's a shame
10583s that maledictus doesn't have one because
10585s i think it's such a cool boss and it's
10587s like it's greatly designed to the artist
10590s that did it uh i'd love to have a little
10592s maladictis following me

10599s included it would have to be discussed
10602s um nothing is obviously decided now

10648s pets in wilderness that is like they're
10650s kind of like a flex they're cool to have
10653s you can get killed while trying to get
10654s them which is
10657s kind of cool in a way and

10663s never get would be to get a wilderness
10666s pet on my hard core i'll probably get
10668s killed in wilderness before um
10671s but yeah i think
10673s i think yeah you can get killed um
10677s but i think it's a unique to the game

10683s i think to kind of add to that is that
10685s given the fact that this is kind of like
10687s you're looking at 55 plus
10689s and there is no restrictions because it
10691s is so high and there is that increased
10693s risk versus reward we can go a lot
10695s further when it comes into kind of like
10699s comparable like gp per hour and stuff
10701s like that when you look at it i think

10730s my time if i have diary gear and at that
10732s point that's when it's fully optional
10734s and i do completely understand the
10736s gripes of when players say they are
10738s forced in inverted commas um into places
10741s wilderness the only thing like the only
10742s things that really go that far are
10744s things like where the wilderness alter
10747s the chaos altar is so far ahead of other
10749s things i can understand why that feels
10751s generally forced to go do in order to
10753s get the kind of experience that you want
10756s it's a little bit more questionable when
10758s it comes to the dragon pick and this is
10760s going to be a little bit of a
10761s controversial take so i'll say hello to
10762s reddit now before this clip appears
10765s but the dragon pick itself yes it does
10769s push you towards best in slot
10772s and yes that is why it is felt that
10774s there is a need to
10776s go in and get it
10778s if you look at calculating the actual
10780s time you save by getting it
10783s unless you're doing massive amounts of
10785s things like chambers and lots of mining
10787s xp
10788s the time really does even out in terms
10790s of difference
10792s but obviously from the player's
10793s perspective everyone wants to be able to
10794s get best in slot so they feel like they
10796s have to go get it
10798s even if you there it's being a little
10800s bit funny with the word play that
10802s they're using for forced in that aspect
10805s but
10806s it's completely understandable in the in
10809s those opinions but that's kind of where
10811s we're looking at in order to kind of
10813s push those boundaries to make it a
10815s viable option rather than i have to go
10818s here
10819s because it is so much better and the
10822s whole risk versus reward of
10825s an open bracket allows us to completely
10827s do that

10878s working on this i probably worked a bit
10880s too much my totally my own choice and i
10882s don't regret it um

10976s mean a lot of the content we think of it

10982s two people are the vision holder for a
10983s project and then it expands but this is
10985s really allow people to kind of dive in
10988s and think outside the box like the
10990s nightball manager was in my mind like i
10992s would that wouldn't even be been a
10994s concept but it's like really cool to see
10996s that other people think that way
10999s in order to create something that's so
11000s far left field
11002s that people find people will find it
11004s interesting and it'll be a very a
11006s surprise
11007s and we've had so much of a variety when
11009s you think about it you've got mini games
11011s quests massive skilling
11014s look looks like massive skilling um like
11016s the play around farms which is kind of
11018s like uh like what runescape introduced
11020s originally like i always loved doing
11021s those kind of things and then to round
11023s it off with a massive
11025s uh pvp
11027s well i see pvp or wilderness expansion
11030s um
11031s it it just goes to show that despite
11034s some of the thoughts within the team
11036s that there are
11038s genuinely people that are interested and
11040s passionate about every facet
11042s of the game of the community and the
11044s gameplay that we want to offer
11047s and the game jam is so perfect when it
11049s comes for us to be able to go
11051s okay we're going to do something for
11053s this community that we
11055s enjoy and want to kind of see thrive and
11057s that's what drives us in order to doing
11059s these things and i can't wait for the
11061s next one to appear and it can't come
11063s soon enough

11071s just it was so nice that week was
11074s fantastic i mean you saw a passion

11116s everyone from across loads of different
11118s disciplines within old school
11120s have been able to contribute and take
11122s part through their ideas into the mix

11127s you know it's it's a wonderful buzz to
11130s get a big part of that

11132s see so many high quality things
11135s like just ideas come out of it as well
11137s it's obviously it is a bonus on top of
11140s just the experience of kind of being
11142s part of that so i can't wait to see
11144s some more of what the community think of

11147s of all of the
11148s all the different ideas shown today and
11151s certainly look forward to seeing what we
11153s can do with them and what this inspires
11155s going forward as well

11244s you know which of these are the best
11245s ones to take forward it's not a
11246s competition between them um
11249s you know the wilderness expansion serves
11250s a very different need to wave the
11252s forester right so they're not competing
11254s necessarily with each other but yeah

11258s we want to take forward and where can we
11259s fit them in the schedule and obviously
11261s we have projects on the go right now
11263s people keep shouting for rates so you
11265s know we're working on a lot of these big
11267s things currently and

11274s look at how do we incorporate them
