I believe Runescape would attract more players by offering a "casual mode mode" server, it would feature boosted xp and drop rates. Think of it like the leagues worlds which are incredibly popular, but the sever never gets wiped.

  • This is not meant to attract current players, rather it would be enticing to new players who wouldn't otherwise be interested in grindscape
  • No trading with main game
  • No highscores
  • Focus on giving players access to content they love

Pros:

  1. Less incentive to bot / RWT for gp / play 3rd party servers
  2. Increased players who would not be interested in grinding (more accessible)
  3. Increased enjoyment for players who want to do quests
  4. Increased enjoyment for players who want to do minigames
  5. Increased enjoyment for players who want to do pvp
  6. OSRS benefits generally thanks to increased income from new players

Cons:

  1. Segmentation in the player base
  2. It is possible Runescape might lose money from shorter total gameplay time (although these arguably are players that wouldn't otherwise play at all)
  3. Would not impact RWT related to gambling like duel arena
  4. It devalues muh 99's or muh scythe

The beauty of OldSchool is that you can choose to play how you want to for the most part. I have seen that some players feel pressured to play efficiently (which is great) but that's usually self imposed. Most of the content in the game is doable at mid level.

If you want to play the game casually, you absolutely can. There's other games out there to suit player needs better if their main focus is getting boosted XP rates in a shorter amount of time.
