Seeing the majority of feedback is surrounding the GWD instances and their cost so I'll use this thread to keep everything regarding that in one place.

  • I don't think it needs clarifying but I'll do it anyway. The idea for this as a reward was actually decided way before the Trailblazer league started, and isn't a result of the recent feedback we've been having now many of you have experienced the issues with overcrowding and crashing there.

  • The cost to entry is high, but we'd rather propose something too high and scale it back based on feedback rather than the other way around. Open to your suggestions here on what seems fitting.

  • Lots of talk around removing the Ecumenical key requirement. We hear you. I assume even with the increased drop rate as you complete the tiers you still think its too much?

  • Why do people get teleports, even just 3, to the Godwards Dungeon upon completing just the easy combat diary while it takes completion of the ELITE diary to get to Mor-Ul-Rek, arguably an easier place to reach with a fairy ring next to it?
  • Offhand melee weapon seems a bit weird considering we already have defenders, no love for range/magic?
  • Scaling on the requirements for the achievements is kinda weird too. Medium requires Monkey Madness 2? Elite requires Song of the Elves, which is only slightly harder than MM2 and DS2? The easy achievement requires 60+ combat and 50 slayer to access even though current easy diaries require usually only about lvl 20 or below in most stats? I think the easy combat achievements could be a bit more accessible, especially with 6 tiers.

I think the thought behind the teleports is most players will be wanting to face against the likes of GWD bosses, so it makes sense to make those teleports more accessible vs a teleport to the inferno. They're just meant to be nice additions for getting to those particular bosses. The requirements, or locations are all subject to change based on feedback.

I hear you about the range/magic offhand as an alternative, but there is a clear gap in melee accuracy for the offhand slot which is why we suggested this. There has been a fair few ranged and mage offhand recently whereas the defender has just always stayed a staple for 1h melee.Again, it can be something entirely different if it doesn't seem fitting.

The requirements are more of a "this is what kind of level we'd expect people to be at to complete these tasks" rather than a strict requirement.

But why do you not consider Defenders to fill this?

Oh I completely do agree Defenders already fill this, but does that mean something else can't fill a niche and be better in some places vs vs always being best everywhere?

Is that a problem? I think the Myths Cape is currently only really used with crush weapons (and mostly for DWH specs) and there doesn't seem to be a problem with that? Just trying to understand your point a bit more :)

Multi combat is fundamentally broken for accounts that risk so much. It's not a "high" entry fee, it is a complete barrier to entry for these accounts. Most UIMS won't use it either.

Even if Ecu keys were 100% drops this would still make it worthless for 2/3 ironman modes.

I've definitely noted this feedback as many others have said the same thing. Thank you!

Edit: Why the downvotes?

There won't be any tasks to solo the Theatre or Blood, it's under the exceptions where content is typically designed with group play in mind.

Restrictions for the Inferno however are definitely more plausible :)

Hi Ayiza,

Thank you for commenting and keeping a close eye on this thread.

  • " The cost to entry is high, but we'd rather propose something too high and scale it back based on feedback rather than the other way around. Open to your suggestions here on what seems fitting."

The main issue regarding this (for ironmen accounts), is that raw GP is a precious commodity almost brought into the game solely through high-alching. Because of this, Ironmen must often ration their gold toward valuable/necessary skills (like mage/construction), and simply cannot afford a cost such as this, nor can we liquidate items for raw GP in order to do so.

If there is a desire to maintain a GP cost for ironmen, please either reduce the cost considerably (to 25-50k at the most), or have the fee be instead removed from deaths coffer, where we can get GE value for additional/duplicate items in some form.

  • "Lots of talk around removing the Ecumenical key requirement. We hear you. I assume even with the increased drop rate as you complete the tiers you still think its too much?"

Absolutely. Ecumenical keys not only exclude two game modes almost entirely; UiM and HCIM (without considerable risk), but likewise simply re-balances where crashing takes place; Ironmen can still easily be crashed while farming Ecumenical keys if a main desires the world.

Additionally, if there is a reduced/removed cost outside of the key (making instances more accessible to mains), the competition for key-farming worlds will only increase, and will thus simply front-load the same crashing culture into another stage of GWD (While collecting keys, instead of while fighting the boss itself).

I honestly think the Ecumenical key requirement is the most dangerous and exclusive component of this proposal (outside of the extreme/excessive GP requirement for irons).

Thank you for your time, and we all appreciate your presence and voice in this discussion.

Thanks for the feedback!

I mean there is plenty of good discussion happening around the subject without people being outraged :P it's about as I expected but that's why we put the blog out early before a poll!

Why on earth wouldn't this need clarifying? You specifically mention in the blog you've heard the player base talking about these issues recently. This would cause me to assume you've taken it into consideration. Not ignore it like it'll just go away like you have.

I'm sorry I must be mistaken, how are we ignoring it if its in the current blog? I was just addressing the comments I've been getting saying we're only offering the instances because of Trailblazer and that's not true. Yeah it'd definitely solidified our decision to keep it in the blog, but it's not a reactive thing?

I agree there is good discussion happening, and I'm glad you're out here to take the feedback, sincerely. I just know for a lot of irons paying steep fees in both time and gp to do content that for main accounts is free and much easier is kind of a low blow. I hope you and the Oldschool team can maybe consider other options in a separate poll or blog, as it seems the rest of the blog is spectacular!

I can completely understand the low blow feeling! We'll edit this blog based on feedback and publish an updated version before the in-game poll goes live rather than having to do a separate one

If that is likely it might make sense to open the blog with that to avoid the nasty reactions from some people in the future. TY for following up on this and as others have said we are glad that y'all are working to improve the game.

You know what, that's a valid point. I used to always start the blogs off saying we'll upload an updated version before the poll. This time I just alluded to it at the bottom of the post. Thanks for reminding me :)

Its kinda odd how the only combat related reward is melee only when many of the achievements are likely going to require mage/range to complete.

I don't think the off hand should just be given mage/range accuracy, but some sort of usable reward for mage/range is hopefully considered.

Will the slayer levels be hard reqs? or general suggested like def?

I really like the suggestion someone made about making the offhand a jack of all trades for all styles, but not being better at any one of them compared to other items. Kind of like an upgraded version of the Zammy book. Definite room to change that reward for sure :)

The Slayer levels are likely to be hard requirements whereas the others are recommended, purely because certain monsters require a Slayer level to kill.

I don't mind paying a large amount of gp for an instance, but forcing keys for it, even with increased drop rates, is ridiculous in my opinion.

Heard this point loud and clear, I expect we'll be making some changes to this particular reward before the poll is live

ecuNeMical

Any killcount tasks will be retroactively added, I did add that into the blog but you're not the first to ask so maybe it wasn't clear enough (sorry!)

The stats listed are more a recommendation rather than hard requirements. There's definitely content you'd be able to complete in Combat Achievements as a limited account!

Yep any killcount tasks will be retroactively added, it does say it in the blog but maybe it wasn't clear enough (sorry!)

The blog does say any previously earnt Kill Count will carry over into Combat Achievements and some speed completions will too :) I didn't make it very clear though, so sorry about that!
