Hey y'all. I've been playing Siege on a gaming laptop since late Y3, and one of my primary issues, especially since the major shifts in the way Siege is stored on my computer, was loading into matches SUPER slowly. That, combined with other issues in other games prompted me to get an SSD to replace my computer's hybrid hard drive. Before installing it, Siege would run fairly smoothly in-game, consistent FPS with the occasional bit of weird lag.

After installing it, my computer runs smoother in general, I load into matches immediately, but I'm hit with such huge amounts of FPS drop (like the icon is almost constantly on my screen, just cycling back and forth between red and yellow). I've tried a bunch of things, including updating my graphics drivers, reformatting my HDD so the partition for the OS is gone, changing my graphics settings, disabling fullscreen optimizations, but nothing seems to fix the issue.

Specific Issue: Game runs smoothly for about 5 minutes, then FPS gets worse and worse, until I only get flashes of even, high FPS.

Specs:
Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-7700HQ CPU @ 2.80GHz 2.80 GHz
8.00 GB (7.87 GB usable) RAM
GeForce GTX 1050 Ti

New SSD was a WD Black SN750

Anyone have a similar issue/know how to fix this?

Hey, LevelOneRat!

Welcome to the forums. This seems rather strange that after installing on an M.2 SSD you are getting heavy FPS drops. What sort of FPS are you seeing?

Also please make sure your OPERATING SYSTEM is UP TO DATE.

Let us know if this helps please.

I don't have a specific FPS number to give, as I'm not entirely sure how to check that, but if I were to estimate, I'd say it drops down to about 20/30 at the worst moments, which now are either "At the start of a round, for a few seconds" or "So often that it's less that the FPS is dropping momentarily and more that it's rising to an okay level momentarily". If you'd like to get some more solid numbers, I'd love to help out, but atm I'm not sure how much more I can!
Thank you for getting back to us!

We will need a bit more information before we are able to offer some personalised suggestions. Here we go -

- When playing the game, do the laptop fans turn up? Does it seem to be overheating?
- Using Task Manager or an application of your choice, are any components at 100% usage? (CPU, graphics card, RAM)
- What graphics settings are you running, including resolution? (either images, or a list of the most notable settings should do)
- Have you tried enabling V-Sync to see if that helps? If not, give it a try.

You can enable an FPS counter in Ubisoft Connect -

- Launch Ubisoft Connect
- Click on the menu button at the top-left corner
- Settings
- Tick "Display FPS counter in game"

Thank you!

In terms of graphics settings, I tend to play on the Medium presets, but I do have V-Sync off, because I was under the impression that it would actually make it worse! I'll give that a shot next time I play.
You're welcome, thanks for getting back to me

Installing an SSD should not directly have this impact, but perhaps it has indirectly shown a bottleneck somewhere else in the system. Just a theory.

V-Sync has its pros and cons but it can be useful. By keeping your CPU and GPU in sync, it may stop one of them working too hard and overheating.

Laptops are great and convenient for gaming. The only complication is that they're designed for power saving & they're more difficulty to keep cool, so it's best we check that first

It may be best to have an overlay running for usage & temps then see how it changes after 5 minutes. Maybe you'll clearly see what is causing the issue.

I hope this information helps you!
