They completely ignored ironmen feedback, so we continue to get nothing
Asking Ironmen what they would prefer isn't ignoring players. I'm hoping that (annoying the other mods to see if) we can get a poll in-game so we can get a definitive response from the Ironman community themselves.
I wanted to say these upcoming changes are in the right step. I like the fact that we can filter out hero pass messages and point gains to make it less in our face. Also in terms of buffs I think instead of damage reduction or increase it would be nice to allow us to extend auras longer. Maybe something to double an aura for free or something. We also don’t have anything to reset skilling auras so that might be a nice fit. I like the buffs to allow us to activate skilling invention perks twice as often as it seems like skilling does not get enough buffs compared to combat
So more Skilling focused buffs is more the way you'd like to see us go? Good to know!
Reading mod Doom's replies is pretty funny.
There's almost 200 comments so far on this post and I'd venture to say most of them are comments against aspects or all of the pass but there's one that is saying the updates are a step in the right direction. Guess what comment has a reply to?
In order for your feedback to be read, you have to praise MTX and ask for more MTX.
Edit: I do at the very least want to give credit to Doom for replying to more than just the replies praising the pass. (Original comment was around 200 comments on the post). It's only fair that if I call him out on it, I also praise him for doing the right thing.
Unless I just reply to the ones I see when I check in, that might happen too. Anyone could get a reply then - anyone!
Did none of your colleagues inform you of this obvious fact?
Like I don't blame you personally or anything to be clear, but it's a hilarious failing to imagine the company hasn't informed you of something so obvious.
The alternative is feigning ignorance as if this is genuine information gathering and this will be used to justify "Oh, well, community feedback said you'd like buffs to do with skilling!" While ignoring community feedback that says, "Remove this or stop monetizing it."
Well, the feedback I can give is "Players dislike the Chaos Ward buff, and the Trailblazer Buff, and we should avoid buffs of that kind moving forward." The post already mentions that we're looking to move buffs earlier up the track so all players can earn them, quicker, and we're open to suggestions for what buffs feel fair and enjoyable to have.
So the only thing changed was how long a daily mission takes? You didn’t read any feedback or ignored it completely. Instead you’re trying to explain your reasoning behind poorly designed systems.
[repost from another thread]
I seriously think you should reconsider the approach of buying the premier track. You should try to push more f2p players into membership by making the premier track tied to membership only, regardless of member status or duration, and the free track only for f2p effectively removing the actual purchase of the premier track.
Mtx is so prominent in rs3 we don’t want or need more of it. You should redesign the pass to work in this way:
- dailies should take 5-10 minutes to complete
dailies should incentivize a streak by providing more hero points the longer the streak(weekly capped)
weeklies should be reroll-able, being forced to do marks of war or some other locked weekly isn’t fun.
weeklies should also adhere to the same streak as dailies mentioned above (monthly capped)
fomo should not be a thing for this, anything should be purchasable in the next season with the hero points
hero points should not be removed, instead I’d rather see recycling cosmetics that come in and out monthly giving players the ability to buy something they previously couldn’t before.
buyable skips should not be incentivized by making the pass near impossible to complete
tiers 99-120 should consist of the same required points as 1-99 (1,000 points per level, since we have a repeatable at the end, feels punishing to increase the points required between these levels)
ironmen should have more rewards, daily xp, and the hero satchels. Some argue they want the content buffs to, but I’m indifferent.
oddments should not be acted as a reward for ironmen when there is no use for them at this current time
You should be looking more at how you can improve the health of the game with this update and not push purchases or fomo. The new system is unhealthy for players to log in and feel compelled to play for 4-5hrs just to complete a battle pass. If anything it gives more people the ability to quit then it does to entice gameplay.
I’m sure there are other things I didn’t mention that could improve this system, but this is just what I personally would like to see changed or at least improved on.
I appreciate the write-up here, and there's a lot of useful insights from how we can approach Missions here. Thanks for this!
I read it as it is staying but future Hero Pass might not have combat buffs
We're looking to see what players want from buffs, what's reasonable to have as a benefit, and how we approach that as a way to guide our future Hero Passes. I've heard a lot of feedback around bringing them all into the Free track and moving them up, and I personally would love that, to incentivise players to explore what each of the buffs offers, so I hope that we can do that.
Big yikes. So basically not much changing. We dont want ANY content buffs its that easy. Any buff that devalues content we dont want it.
Which buffs specifically do you feel devalue content? I want to know so we can help shape where we do (or don't) look to in future updates.
"it’s inclusion" and "it’s intentions" should be written without an apostrophe. It's simply "its".
Great spot - going to blame the heatwave for that one. They are outta there!
That's all you're going to comment on?.....
No, but it's worth remembering that I'm literally one human being covering multiple platforms at once. Gotta circle back around.
They point out that large chunks of progression for the hero pass will come from special events that will give you huge hero point drops and that hasn’t been factored into the early calculations people have done which is why it seems so egregious.
I’m not taking a side here just loosely quoting what Jagex said in this post
Special Missions will be added alongside updates and events and should provide around 25 levels (25000 Hero Points) approximately, across various missions.
Please restrict the vote to ironman accounts, and internally Jagex should split the results by player demographics (playtime, xp, active etc). Give players with 2.5k total more weighting than 2k total and nobody under 1k total should be able to vote.
You guys need to hear what actual ironman think, not ironman alts that have quit or are played by mains. We need a real vote of what the active ironman community think.
Please make it happen and handle the results with great care.
Yes, I'd like it to be specific to Ironman accounts, I'm not quite sure how much more granular we can go than that but it would be something we definitely explore.
If only there was a million threads and videos on which, why and how!
I've seen 'em too!
I know what they said, I want to know what Imissyelps says.
Ideas for buffs:
Carpenter's Steadiness: Requires New Foundations quest complete. For an hour, cutting logs into planks and planks into refined planks is done at double speed with 50% more xp.
Doc's Perk Manual: Requires Invention. When activated, you get to pick the resulting perk of the next gizmo shell you fill with materials. Only options with 1% or greater odds, depending on your Invention level and materials included in the gizmo shell, may be chosen.
Needle's Time Acceleration: Requires Invention & at least one machine manufactured in your Invention guild. For a week, invention machines work at double speed. Requires double the divine charge to use!
PoF/RooT Animal Trait token: Requires PoF tutorial completion. If used on an animal with less than 3 trait slots open, open all 3 trait slots with random traits. If used on an animal with 3 trait slots already, manually select all of the traits!
Travelling Milker's token: Requires 49 Farming & PoF tutorial completion. Activate to make an NPC appear at the PoF. Give the NPC a female adult/elder cow or fremmenik yak. One day later, receive a large quantity of milk from the animal you assigned, and the animal you chose returns to you as well. The NPC then despawns. Doesn't work if you don't have an adult/elder cow or fremmenik yak in your backpack, or if you're not at the PoF.
Arcane Focus: For an hour, runecraft runes with an additional +2 to the essence multiplier and 50% more xp. Doesn't work in RuneSpan.
RuneSpan Attunement: For an hour, your chance to siphon successfully in RuneSpan is increased by 75% (additive to baseline siphon success chance). Creatures you kill in RuneSpan yield 300% more rune essence.
Athlete's Determination: For an hour, your character automatically runs to the next obstacle in an agility course and completes it. Doesn't work if your character doesn't have the required agility level for said obstacle.
Death's Wrath: Manually select today's Reaper assignment, and receive double Reaper points when it is completed.
Slayer's quartermaster: For an hour, all items dropped by monsters you kill as part of your current Slayer assignment(s) are rolled under Tier 4 luck & are automatically noted.
Hunter's elusivity: For an hour, Big Game Hunter dinosaur detection radii reduced by 75%.
Crafter's inspiration: For an hour, when an urn is fired or a gemmed piece of jewelry is created, there is a 50% chance that the item is duplicated and sent directly to the bank. Doesn't work for onyx, hydrix, nor alchemical jewelry.
Necromancer's Peaceful Rest: For an hour, all ritual disturbances may never occur & ritual base experience increased by 600%.
You even gave them titles, I like this. Will make a note so that we can suggest these to the team moving forward!
Zammy damage reduction and clue step reduction. You are effective devaluing those content.
Those two are the repeat offenders that keep coming up again and again! Good to know that those are the areas we should avoid.
“What? You don’t like the hero pass… Aww” -jagex right now
I can't speak for anyone else, but I definitely said "Awww" out loud opening my inbox notifications.
I would like to propose to the mod team here a slight change to hero pass:
3 Daily Missions:
Just like the old system:
3 Daily challenges:
You want to short us lamps and supplies in not only keys but in experience which is not right.
I understand that times must change as much as everyone else but please understand that with the current daily system it feels like we are being very shorted here, I think you could agree with this statement. u/JagexDoom
That's feedback I can forward to the team, for sure.
Out of curiosity, does jagex do any kind of surveying?
There is so much that goes into creating proper surveys, and I have never seen one following generally accepted practices (as far as any social science standard).
I just truly wonder what some better targeting surveying could do. Not necessarily ones tailored to updates or provided as a blanket survey to reddit, as those would obviously get brigades.
I do mean surveying and not polling here
Yeah, we've done surveys in the past and done smaller group surveys as well. It's not something I have any direct interaction with, so I wouldn't be able to give you any more info than that, I just know that we have.
The general opinion seems to be that any buff that provides any benefit to actual content should not be tied to a battle pass. I've not seen anyone of the opinion that some subset is good and some subset is bad - it's more like people think some subset is bad, and some other subset is worse.
Agree that that seems to be the general perception here. Definitely a good point to take back to the team!
Hi Mod Doom, thank you for the work you are doing, you’re awesome, we appreciate you continuing the line of communication with us.
Regarding the buffs system, if your intent is to keep the system, I think it would be interesting to have an in-game poll before each hero pass season asking the players to vote on their preferred buffs. This way the players are involved in the decision so there is less controversy, and you will in turn end up with the most popular buffs that should give you the most player engagement. As an ironman however, I would request continuing to keep the buffs disabled for iron accounts.
One buff I would always avoid is any kind of dps increase in pvm. Dps is king in this game and I could see such a buff creating some elitist attitudes (“Oh you don’t have the buff available? I won’t pvm with you then”).
I personally would love to see more community engagement in what goes into a Hero Pass, that would be amazing! It's not up to me directly (probably for the best, I'm 2127 levels in but still definitely a noob) but it's something I keep pushing for!
Maybe re read the comment posted above yours.... 17 year player who just canceled due to this.
I'm sorry, the one I replied to? Or another comment, you'd have to link me to it if so. Not sure what you're referring to here.
Take. Them. Away. How many people need to say it, Doom? The 2 people who say make them easier to get matter more than the majority of the community saying they have no place here?! Come on, dude. I felt for the JMods yesterday because it seemed like y'all were getting unnecessary hate. But this just shows that you AREN'T. LISTENING.
Courtney, if it was up to me I'd never see the word buff again! It'd be chat filtered and everything! But it's not just a singular person's decision, and I've been trying (and trying) to get this point across, but in the meantime I want to find a compromise. You've got to give me something to work with while I keep pushing these points.
But if you just think that's "not listening" then that's your opinion, in the meantime I'll keep representing the majority of the community even if you can't see it happening. Have a good day!
Will make a note so that we can suggest these to the team moving forward!
please don't. they were all awful
Well, I'm just trying to look for suggestions here. And before you say it, I know what your suggestion is going to be - it rhymes with "denoov it" doesn't it? I'm very aware of the overwhelming point that the community is making, and I'm continuing to stress the crucial nature of that point up the chain.
In the meantime, while I don't have the capacity to just action a change like that all by myself, what I am looking for is ways to compromise - get out there and ask the community what they'd want to see, and whether we can make that a possibility.
Bring them into the free track, move them up, and then throw every one of them in the bin.
You had me in the first half, I'm not gonna lie!
More gaslighting, All you'll do is "take the feedback" remove how predatory the hero pass is. Then slowly drip feed it back into the game over time. Incrementalism has always been Jagex's goal.
Make a big MTX change we dont like -> community melts down -> Jagex "compromises" -> community accepts the fate of the change knowing we are powerless -> Jagex slowly drips more into future updatesWe know you cant make the change yourself so dont act like the community is directly calling you out but we dont want a compromise.
Not really sure what response I can give to a comment like this, but I've seen it.
You've got to give me something to work with
Respectfully, no.
I don't get paid to work on this game. You, and the people you're trying to explain this to, do. It's you're job to make things your customers want and customers are telling you what they want.
If the "team" would rather ignore customers and release garbage, that's your prerogative
Absolutely is my job to give that feedback to the team and do everything I can to make that feedback heard. The feedback I deliver is holistic, and represents the entire community's sentiment on this, and is passed up the chain through the team to consider and act on.
I know what your suggestion is going to be - it rhymes with "denoov it" doesn't it
I personally wouldn't mind cosmetic rewards but yes, removing it would obviously be the preferred option.
Cosmetic rewards are the best rewards, if you ask me.
Well, I'm just trying to look for suggestions here.
Posted elsewhere, but the only "buffs" that are "reasonable" are ones that aren't directly impacting content.
For example, providing safe deaths (like PvM week free deaths which save familiar as well), life/aura refreshes, no drain rate on gear for X amount of time, etc... are all PvM buffs that aren't directly impacting the ability to complete that content, but are alleviating some of the downsides.
Instead of doubling the effect of woodcutting invention perks, make woodcutting more afk by extending the life of trees by 2x for the next however many trees.
Or you get a porter buff for a certain period of time. Or ability to make X frames at the Fort by using planks directly from your bank (making binding contracts directly from Arch material storage when?).
All of these aren't direct content buffs, but are effectively QoL buffs which don't explicitly devalue the time spent doing these activities, it just makes that activity a bit more enjoyable (depending on the player).
Thank you for this feedback. Certainly a direction I can push for.
I've given harsh criticism towards the system and towards Jagex.
But I choose to trust your word and that you are fighting our fight. Thank you. Thats it. Thank you.
I see no real compromise on this system but still.
I appreciate that Kobra. I've seen a few of your posts/comments and I'm especially glad to see this one. Still fighting!
