As someone who spends way too much on MTX in this game, I wanted to give people some advice on how to get the most of their keys in this promo and a quick rundown review. I get that to many people MTX is the devil, but I want to give some credit for a slightly better system.
Advice:
- Never reroll white or yellow. I'm pretty sure buying another key with oddments is almost always better
- Avoid rerolling orange. Iirc slayer masks are on this tier, which might be worth rolling for if you really want to. Aside of that, you might as well just pick one of your five options
- Rerolling red can be worth it if you commit. This burns up a lot of oddments. If you commit to rerolling you have a fairly good chance of getting a skilling outfit piece or rolling up to purple
- Pick silverhawk feathers for gold. They are worth a lot more than springs and I'm pretty sure they are worth more than magic note paper
- Take your time picking from a purple roll, obviously
The Good:
- You have a choice between up to five items
- This lets you pick which skills you want to focus on instead of sometimes getting stuck with stars and items for skills you don't care about
- This also lets you dodge unfavorable items like divine locations and skilling supplies that are worth less than simple bonus xp
- It also gives you an occasional choice to pick something tradeable if you want to cash out for some gold
- Rerolling gives you more chances at coveted items such as skilling outfits or rolling up to purple for big cash outs or lucky items
The Bad:
- The first choice is rather pointless
- There is no point in picking anything but the highest tier available
- There is no point of having multiple tied for highest
- Getting all white is disheartening
- Rerolling burns through oddments at an alarming rate
- There are no multipliers or special event items
- Compare this to Cerberus or Rainbow which will give you a much higher quantity instead of quality
The Ugly:
- Without official odds, I can neither confirm nor deny that this promo has worse odds overall
- Since only the highest tier in a group matters, they could easily generate that chest using the standard odds and fill the rest of the screen with random tiers the same or below
- This would also mean that they could fill the screen with higher tier chests to make the odds seem far better than they actually are
- It's also possible that each chest tier roll is actually fair and normal. This would effectively give players significantly better odds
- It would take a lot of community coordination and spending an inordinate amount of money to uncover details that quite frankly should have been available to begin with
- Since only the highest tier in a group matters, they could easily generate that chest using the standard odds and fill the rest of the screen with random tiers the same or below
- Anecdotal evidence, in 200 keys I got 2 purples
- In other promos this would be closer to 5+, suggesting this event actually has lower odds for purple
- I rolled some reds chests to purple, but it cost a fortune in oddments
TL:DR read the advice section. Being able to pick is great, but it feels like there is something weird going on with the odds.
