New Information

  • 1 Year Anniversary of Mobile's Launch:

General

We recently flew in The RS Guy to talk about contested topics. There are 1.5 hour chats about economy, death costs, design implementation, etc. How we deliver that content has yet to be determined, but we are looking to have these conversations with you hopefully in June.

Questions Short Answers
Runescape 4? No We've stopped thinking about numbers sequels awhile back and it will remain 'Runescape' in the foreseeable future as it's a constantly evolving game.
Official UIM mode in RS3? Perhaps if we can see there's enough demand. Right now there are other things we can focus on that would appeal to a wider community.
What are your plans to combat gold inflation and stabilise RuneScape's economy? It's too early to talk about but we will be posting blogs soon. It's a complicated topic. It's very easy to fix by removing gold sources or adding major gold sinks, but this would result in a worse experience. There is a design behind it and our plans will be explained in the blog post to gather feedback and make sure everyone is fine with it.
Any plans to roll out the new greater demon model to old demons? Yes, but it won't come out with ED4. We will be rolling out the demons and other friends to the game later. There is a discussion of modifying unique looked demons (quest ones) with the generic model or to keep their old one until we can make a new unique variant.

 


Combat

Questions Short Answers
Staff of Sliske spec rework? Nothing solid on it. I'm down for it but it would more of a gamejam thing or a special attack combat strike. There's more questions that go into than re-do it to deal damage in a better way.
Plans to add new raids and rework the existing ones? No plans to continue with the Raids format. Raids were an experiment, it has a niche audience, but it didn't reach a broad enough audience to continue be something in that format. We could rework it to make it more accessible but we'd rather make new content.
Can we get a single combined Elite Dungeon Lucky Charm? Awaiting QA Since it's a tiny QOL, everything else gets prioritize before it. It will also need more work done with Zamorak on the horizon.
When will we learn more about Zamorak's elite dungeon? Very soon -
Are there any plans on addressing adrenaline stalling? There's nothing solid. It comes up every combat council meeting and we want to get rid of it. There's a lot of baggage with it in regards to existing rewards/content and has to be approached appropriately.
Is there an update on making T92 Elite Sirenic and Elite Tectonic not degrade to dust? Backlog It just needs time assigned to it.
Do you have any upcoming plans, you can talk about, to reduce Switchscape? Yes There's something in upcoming content which is a straight up reduction to some players. And something we are trialing to see if it can help switchscape but you will find out more about that in the coming weeks. There is a discussion on what the playerbase and handling it whilst retaining the skill ceiling.
The Abyssal alloy spikes are bugged to not actually to 10x damage sometimes, could this be fixed? The fix should be out Monday -
Are there any plans to change the Abyssal Scourge to apply stacks of damage on immune targets like Bik arrows do? To pass on to Mod Shogun -
Are there any plans to reduce the timecosts to making the new T95 arrows? Yes, we are looking to do something. -

 


Lore

Questions Short Answers
What will happen post Twilight of the Gods? It isn't the right time to discuss the next storyline just yet. Twilight of the Gods clearly implies there's this big deal ending which you'll see more in the miniquest for the boss which comes later. It isn't the right time to discuss the next storyline just yet, but you will hear more about it later. The next storyline (short-mid term) will be more grounded with a more of a classic medieval feel and less of extraordinary high fantasy feel.
Will we see further storylines with Vicendithas & Naressa? We'd use characters like this sparingly. They aren't off the table but they wouldn't be the focus of content moving forward.
What Quest series would you like to see finished now that we are moving away from the gods. Have Mod Rowley or Raven finish the Desert Series. We could have delayed Extinction to September and done a Gnome finale, and that would have derailed the momentum of the Elder Gods storyline. Instead we could fold/integrate it in the incomplete series into the existing storylines such as with Demons in Twilight of the Gods.
Are the Light and Shadow voices really leaving us? Yes they are going but we may try to revisit similar concept in the future. They are really useful from a storytelling point of view. They've worked better at companion characters than actual companion characters.

 


MTX

Questions Short Answers
Is there a chance that some of the old overrides would be introduced, such as the Spooky Spider Outfit? If players want it we can bring it back again. I think we did bring back the Spooky Spider Outfit last Halloween.
Can we get some consistency on when/how things are added to the oddments store? We haven't had a regular pattern but we should. In the past if it's on TH they are exclusive for a year before being added elsewhere.
Is it still the plan to roll Solomon's store over to the Marketplace? It's still the plan Work has been done improving the Marketplace, some of it released, some of it work in progress. It's a tricky area to make sure everything is working cross platform.
When are the retro skins coming? Soon TM -

 


Rework

The problem with reworking content is that it takes around the same amount of time as making a new skill/major update but for our most content hungry players who have already completed the skill/content, they get little to nothing from it. This means we have to make a decision on which update provides more value to the game, a rework or a new major piece of content.

Questions Short Answers
Player Avatar refresh In progress The project was on hold due the complexity behind making sure 20 years of content can properly work with the new avatar models otherwise depending on what you wear you'd have a mix of the old/new model. We also don't want to get this wrong so we are exploring different options on how to improve the quality and fidelity without losing the familiarity players have with their avatar's iconic look. When we have the opportunity to push this onto a beta server to get feedback we will.
Kingdom Management Rework It was never in development. There was a plan to have a rework team similar to the Ninja team who would work on projects like this, but that never took off. As a Ninja strike it could receive some attention but as a full rework it would be treated as a new piece of content and we'd be better off spending time on other things.
Construction Rework We are not working on it. If we were working on it, we wouldn't be talking about it. Whilst this topic was brought up in 2017, 5 Years of Skilling presentation, our plans and approaches have changed since then. In terms of skilling updates in general, give us feedback on what players would like to see.

 


Tech

Questions Short Answers
Can we get more updates for mobile? One planned for in summer. The updates are mainly planned within the form of Ninja strikes like we did in April. In the background we are improving the tech that allows us to use mobile to communicate game features to you better, to make it more useful as a tool (when your farming trees have finished growing). 1/3 of our playerbase use Mobile daily (some mobile only, some a mix).
Jagex Accounts/Mergers still on track for 2022? Yes We will give you updates/timeline once we have something more concrete. There still needs to be work done on the game side to support different account selection. Also during the summer we will do an internal beta with staff accounts to test increased password complexity and multi-factor authentication before it's released to the players.
When is 32b to 64b transition? Within this month or July. There's no firm date, but we wanted to give a good notice by putting in each week's patch notes.

Basically like 90% of the questions we get are "you said this once a month/year/decade ago, could you give us an update".

Either that or they're "I have a suggestion for the game, will you implement it".
