As has been mentioned, this isn't for your login email. Unfortunately its a user experience nightmare and we've spent many meetings discussing it.

We're open to other suggestions, but its about as clear as its going to be without confusing people in other circumstances and being an acceptable page from a design perspective.

The problem then becomes people who don't see the username & login email as the same thing. Something which our support tickets, research & analysis shows happens, and so we're unable to make that change.

The page (unfortunately?) needs to be clear for both sets of users, and regrettably that adds to the confusion that we're experiencing here.

Unless we removed username logins, no work would resolve this (that doesn't include adding a new account above your existing one).

I can imagine, most people don't want to lose their username login (myself included to be honest)

You would still be able to achieve the same result by using an alias (such as on Google) that only yourself would know. Or by using an email address specifically for your RuneScape account.

The removal of username logins would likely be a decision made for a huge direction change that'd be well communicated, although we're all well aware (as I said) about how most people feel when it comes to username logins.

Your first point, sure. I believe the original reason was we wanted those to be as concise as possible, pre-Google message being added to cant_log_in.

Not strictly true. Since the user may have forgotten their username is the same as the registered email. Again though, we're cautious about adding paragraphs to these pages. People don't like to read and will often spacebar through the recovery flow to get to the end asap even if a previous step would have immediately solved their problem. There is also the small number of users who contact us and our support team is able to provide further assistance.

Being a developer in the website team I have no involvement in anything to do with company statements. Often the first time I read them is when you do. Not sure what you'd expect me to say.

I feel like we've considered that.. For some reason or another it didn't get a positive response though.

I'll raise it tomorrow when I get a chance, understand this flow is not our focus right now though.
