This game was never actually made M1 compatible, in fact that is technically unsupported hardware for this game.

That said it is known to generally work, with some glitches at times. It's not clear from that log why it is crashing on your machine.

Please attach here the latest log from the game :

~/Library/Application Support/Surviving Mars/logs/

To find that file, in Finder do cmd-shift-G to bring up the GOTO box. In there paste ~/Library/ . You will see a /Application Support/ folder, and inside that /Surviving Mars/ and then a /logs/ folder. Please attach the latest file from in there to here by dropping it on this support ticket, or use the "Attach file" link here.

Available memory:
physical: 3515 MB
I'm afraid it does not meet the minimums, even putting aside the M1 issue:
  • Processor: 4th Generation Intel i3 CPU or equivalent
  • Memory: 4 GB RAM
  • Graphics: OpenGL 4.1 (GeForce 600/AMD Radeon 5000 or higher) with 1GB of video RAM

I recommend you seek a refund from wherever you bought the game, unless you have access to a machine that meets those minimums.

Sorry about that!

Right, but it's mostly used by something else:
Memory In Use: 78%
If you exit every other app you can, does the game run then?

I see, that may be another side-effect of being on the novel M1 architecture.

I'd forgotten but this has been reported before, I see now:

Surviving Mars - Game launches then immediately quits itself [MacOS M1]

Description Game launches then immediately quits itself Mac Steam What is your game version? App ID: 464920, Build ID: 7916247 What DLC do you have installed? Space Race, Green Planet, Colony Design Set, In-Dome Buildings Pack... forum.paradoxplaza.com forum.paradoxplaza.com
So far as I have seen none of our games will ever be back-ported to native M1 code, so at this point I'd have to say the game will never run on an M1 Mac unless the problem happens to be in Rosetta and Apple fix that in any upcoming MacOS version.

Sorry about that!
