theres literally a countdown to it like "oh time to watch out, its a-coming!" but somehow telling me where its coming from is impossible?

why do developers do this. the game should feel like it wants to be played, not try to annoy me every chance it gets.

Each horde is announced the way it comes. It can happen that the horde is redirected to get the colony because of some natural barrier like forest or mountains. So you have to have your area discovered and know how it can affect the way of the hordes.
