[2019] The lack of a story.

The base missions are actually OK IMO since the patch, but after accidently blowing myself up with a barrel right at the end after spending 45 minutes searching for vitally important research points, I am starting to understand the irritation some people have with them. It was not in any way fun playing it a second time.

The horde missions are terrible and awfully thought out. If you have soldiers you just stick as many as possible around the outpost and you don't even have to touch your mouse to finish the mission. If you don't have soldiers I would imagine you are screwed. They need to be completely reworked or scrapped.

However my main gripe and I think what is arguably the gripe of most people who moan about the campaign is the lack of a story or cutscenes (I'm not considering those terribly acted 10 second speeches by the Emperor as a cutscene, I've seen more convincing laughter from a goat) or any real flavour to the campaign. A couple of lore snippits is not a story.

The devs have been admirably good at constantly improving the game since 1.0 and I guess they were honestly suprised to the response to the campaign.

Great classic RTS games, starcraft, red alert 1, warcraft 2/3 have always had good stories. Of course the gameplay is important in a game and should be the main focus. However I was hoping, actually given the impression that there would be a story for this crazy world they created. Up until 50% completed there really isn't one. I hope the devs should see this as a priority in the future.
