| 1528s | um i'm one of the concept artists here |

| 1533s | my background is uh well i studied |
| 1535s | illustration and design at dalston |
| 1536s | college so i mostly did like that's here |
| 1539s | in montreal |
| 1540s | and i mostly trained to like draw and |
| 1542s | change and just touched a couple of |
| 1544s | things like a little bit of 3d a little |
| 1547s | bit of graphic design |
| 1548s | and uh |
| 1550s | yeah after |
| 1551s | after that um i i got into indie games |
| 1554s | because uh some of you might might |
| 1556s | recognize uh i graduated with sin man |
| 1559s | liu who's the art director at kid fox |
| 1561s | links oh and uh so when he got recruited |
| 1564s | to found kid fox i got to see like oh |
| 1566s | this guy gets to do like a bit of |
| 1568s | everything he's drawing he's animating |
| 1570s | he's making uh like you like graphics |
| 1573s | uh so that that that's what made me want |
| 1575s | to go to uh into indie games became an |
| 1577s | outlet to kind of get to try a bit of |
| 1579s | everything i was kind of with a heavily |
| 1581s | man guy so |
| 1583s | i wound up doing a lot of freelance work |
| 1585s | in the game scene |
| 1587s | uh some projects you guys might know |
| 1589s | would be uh moon hunters that would be |
| 1591s | like by ken fox as well also my p fox |
| 1593s | was uh which made a while i did some |
| 1595s | cutscenes for them 100's i did a bunch |
| 1597s | of pixel art animation |
| 1600s | uh for the expansion uh what was it |
| 1603s | called anyways the winter |
| 1605s | area expansion |
| 1607s | and uh also castle story i did marketing |
| 1609s | out for castle story and a bunch of |
| 1611s | other little things and then eventually |
| 1613s | uh |
| 1614s | i uh was very lucky to get uh pulled |
| 1618s | into norseville i started contracting |
| 1620s | with most fellow while back |
| 1622s | very happy to be working in-house |
| 1624s | full-time at norrisville fully dedicated |
| 1626s | to one place |
| 1628s | uh for a lot of reasons it's fun here |
| 1630s | and but also it's uh |
| 1632s | it's nice to get the focus on one thing |
| 1634s | not go find another job who will keep us |
| 1637s | yeah so that's great |
| 1640s | it's very exciting doing freelance but |
| 1642s | it's text yeah yeah exactly |
| 1645s | no it's nice for you to be working like |
| 1647s | full time here yeah |

| 1650s | i even learned some stuff because i |
| 1652s | didn't know that you um that you |
| 1653s | graduated with uh |

| 1662s | when we started uh that program which |
| 1664s | must have been uh in late 2009. |

| 1676s | so with the with norseville for example |

| 1687s | yeah so like the favorite concept art i |
| 1690s | mean it's a kind of a toss-up between a |
| 1692s | handful but probably the favorite one |
| 1694s | would be the cyber viking uh cosmetics |
| 1696s | that yeah um it was uh |
| 1699s | like a overindulgence on my part i kind |
| 1702s | of just let myself uh go nuts with it i |
| 1706s | even started like a very high definition |
| 1708s | 3d model of the mechanical one to try |
| 1711s | and figure out how the |
| 1712s | like mechanics would work how it would |
| 1714s | move and it was just like in a you know |
| 1716s | like a realistic way it was just like |
| 1718s | not at all what we needed for like a |
| 1721s | usable |
| 1722s | asset so i had to like go back and like |
| 1724s | really simplify look so that would be |
| 1726s | something that we could actually |
| 1728s | like and use yeah yeah i think a lot of |
| 1731s | people like also like to speak about the |
| 1732s | art i think a lot of people um even when |
| 1734s | they were seeing this concept for the |
| 1736s | first time they didn't realize that they |
| 1737s | were like oh yeah like you can kind of |
| 1739s | you can kind of see how it is reflected |
| 1740s | in the in-game outfit like even the leg |
| 1742s | has kind of that like some transparency |
| 1744s | where you can see through it and some of |
| 1746s | it is kept in the arm i think that's |
| 1747s | cool that you were able to like keep |
| 1748s | those elements for the final asset too |
| 1751s | so there was just the joints that got |
| 1753s | simplified yeah the rest stayed exactly |
| 1755s | the same |
| 1756s | um |
| 1757s | but pretty much the same and um actually |
| 1760s | that a leg is based off of like |
| 1764s | real-life leg prosthesis yeah instead of |
| 1766s | like having like just a shaft they do |
| 1768s | this like interesting uh i don't know if |
| 1769s | it's like 3d printed or mobile but this |
| 1771s | kind of lattice formation yeah so i |
| 1773s | thought that was like really cool |
| 1776s | absolutely yeah i can see that's one of |
| 1778s | the faves yeah and then i mean you did |
| 1780s | quite a few um |
| 1782s | numerous transmog cosmetic sets in game |
| 1785s | yeah in case the chat yeah this is our |
| 1787s | chance to talk about that i mean yeah |
| 1788s | actually most of the transmogs that |
| 1790s | people have seen yeah |
| 1792s | i i wound up doing them yeah um you guys |
| 1795s | want me to list some honorable mentions |

| 1800s | my favorites would be like them okay |

| 1826s | was one of the ones that i know there's |
| 1828s | a huge portion of the community who |
| 1829s | really enjoys this outfit who wears it |
| 1831s | all the time there's another halfway |
| 1833s | saying i only want to wear the fallen |
| 1834s | valkyrie and everybody has their own |
| 1836s | choice of their own armor that they love |
| 1838s | and i love that that everybody you know |
| 1839s | gets all this choice uh for it i think i |
| 1841s | gave you guys the concept for the star |
| 1843s | growing like costume but the gear is |
| 1845s | like |
| 1846s | a whole other level i find today yeah i |
| 1848s | i decided to go like oh you know like |
| 1850s | let's face it all off of like magical |
| 1852s | girl kind of anime stuff and she'll be |
| 1854s | trying to push it yeah it's so funny i |
| 1855s | love when people wear different pieces |
| 1857s | of the starbjorn like they only wear the |
| 1859s | shoes and then it looks like slippers or |
| 1860s | they only wear the head it's just like |
| 1862s | it's a set that can be really |
| 1863s | deconstructed and put onto other uh |

| 2062s | i already have the excitement that i'm |

| 2175s | go rescue a budgie and we anyways we |
| 2178s | over the next couple days we figured out |
| 2179s | what the system that we would use to |
| 2181s | capture we took down one of our bird |
| 2182s | feeders |

| 2185s | found a way to hang up a bird cage as a |
| 2187s | bird feeder with a bunch of food in it |
| 2189s | so it was like food it was a bird feeder |
| 2192s | and we tied a length of twine to the |
| 2194s | doors of the cage |
| 2195s | threw a loop at the top all the way to |
| 2197s | the back door |
| 2199s | so that when she saw the bird |
| 2202s | eating inside the cage all she had to do |
| 2203s | was just yeah |
| 2205s | shut the door yeah it worked |

| 2305s | kind of rolling |
| 2306s | fire effect on it that was like i |
| 2308s | pitched it it was cool i think it would |
| 2310s | be something that would be too wouldn't |

| 2318s | and uh yeah i just quickly was able to |
| 2320s | mock up something that looks really |
| 2321s | slick uh so when i went ahead and made |
| 2324s | the final sword concept i i went and put |
| 2327s | that shader back on it and like i made |
| 2329s | this kind of animation |
| 2330s | uh scene that i'm not sure if you guys |

| 2490s | really stand out uh one would be the the |
| 2492s | monkey king design um |
| 2495s | it was difficult in an interesting way |
| 2496s | so like i like dived in and i did a |
| 2499s | bunch of research |
| 2500s | uh like on the basis like the uh |
| 2503s | the legend of the monkey king |
| 2506s | um |
| 2507s | set in like i think it was written in |
| 2509s | the mega era |
| 2511s | of the |
| 2512s | chinese dynasty so i started i did a |
| 2514s | whole bunch of research of just like |
| 2516s | ming era |
| 2517s | uh weapons and honor shout out to uh i |
| 2520s | think there was |
| 2521s | this blog i think it's called great main |
| 2523s | military like somewhere around block |
| 2525s | spot and it's by this like academic i |
| 2528s | think they're young |
| 2530s | and uh they have access to a ton of like |
| 2533s | illustrations from that time period of |
| 2535s | like weapons and armor so between |
| 2538s | comparing that |
| 2539s | uh to |
| 2540s | museum exhibits you could really |
| 2542s | extrapolate with a nice range of |
| 2545s | of gear |
| 2546s | um |
| 2547s | and yeah so like the challenge was like |
| 2550s | trying to find stuff that was |
| 2553s | inspired |
| 2554s | from |
| 2556s | and trying to pull in concrete ways from |
| 2559s | armor of the period because i i like to |
| 2561s | have my concept art this might be a |
| 2563s | little bit i really like to have my |
| 2564s | concept art pulled from like reference |
| 2567s | and and then go crazy with it um i find |
| 2570s | that's like a way to not just pull |
| 2572s | something like somebody else did so the |
| 2574s | challenge was |
| 2576s | trying to get |
| 2578s | armor that would look cool that's |
| 2580s | inspired |
| 2581s | by that period but also really |
| 2583s | communicate the vibe of the monkey king |
| 2584s | which is |
| 2586s | gymnastic dynamic uh acrobatic |
| 2590s | um |
| 2591s | so |
| 2592s | yeah so it took a few iterations and |
| 2593s | then eventually we landed uh where we |
| 2595s | did which i think um |
| 2598s | i'm really happy with one of my favorite |
| 2599s | concepts too um |
| 2602s | yeah that's a pull-off yeah absolutely |
| 2605s | yeah i see cadre even saying like i |
| 2606s | could see the inspiration behind the |
| 2608s | monkey king set i think also the monkey |
| 2611s | uh the little floaty on the cloud little |
| 2613s | monkey on the cloud one of one of the |
| 2615s | most favored uh pets |
| 2617s | all around honestly the cloud king um i |
| 2620s | know for sure all the animal pets it's |
| 2622s | just like such a win you know what i |
| 2624s | mean like yes yes so great to meet you |
| 2627s | but yeah making that and making the |
| 2629s | actual monkey floating on the on the |
| 2631s | cloud |
| 2632s | yeah super super yeah and um another one |
| 2635s | that was like really really challenging |
| 2637s | was the uh the pilot said |
| 2639s | yes that was hard because that first |
| 2641s | what i tried to go for was just |
| 2644s | any |
| 2645s | kind of pirate that would be in the same |
| 2648s | like time period as the original vikings |
| 2651s | uh so i i started just pulling and |
| 2654s | saying but usually when it's hard it's |
| 2655s | because i overdo it on research so i |
| 2658s | started pulling like uh |
| 2660s | what was it the japanese pirates of that |
| 2663s | period i think whack waku or something |
| 2665s | like that okay um |
| 2667s | uh south china sea pirates that would be |
| 2670s | more in the pirate era |
| 2671s | um the pirates of the barbary coast |
| 2674s | which you could uh imagine a pretty wide |
| 2676s | time flame anyways i did a bunch of |
| 2678s | stuff like that and uh made this huge |
| 2681s | huge broad range and then it came back |
| 2683s | well no the idea is more for it to be |
| 2684s | like a pirate that's |
| 2686s | got the viking vibe ah okay okay so then |
| 2689s | like okay go back in research like the |
| 2691s | buccaneers and and all of that produce a |
| 2694s | whole new array uh for that range and |
| 2697s | then kind of started settling up |
| 2699s | something yeah so without for that one |
| 2701s | it was that one it was more like it was |
| 2703s | uh incorporating a lot of the viking |
| 2705s | flair not so much as like taking a ton |
| 2708s | from all that history and then trying to |
| 2709s | find a way to marry that all together |
| 2712s | yeah cause i think in the end the uh our |
| 2714s | intention for how we treat |
| 2716s | uh fight like mid-guardians and vikings |
| 2719s | in our universe |
| 2721s | um julian can speak more clearly to it |
| 2723s | but my understanding is that it's it's |
| 2725s | like |
| 2726s | um |
| 2728s | what makes up fighting is like more |
| 2730s | their characteristics and who they are |
| 2732s | which is what allows us to pull let's |
| 2734s | say the cyber viking film |
| 2737s | or or the monkey kin as well and the |
| 2739s | idea is that it's it's that they've met |
| 2742s | the qualifications to be a guardian |
| 2744s | and they they you know yeah it's it's |
| 2747s | that those that feels personality traits |
| 2750s | yeah their spirit their spirit thank you |
| 2751s | that's better yeah definitely the spirit |
| 2754s | yeah so looking at um |
| 2757s | these artworks made me think |
| 2760s | so you've you've obviously you took some |
| 2764s | time to think and to ideate on on some |
| 2768s | on some really cool concepts |

| 2772s | i would say that probably like made you |

| 2775s | new new things about art and just in |

| 2801s | thing in particular that i think i would |

| 2888s | comic book kind of approach |
| 2890s | um but yeah it basically just lets you |
| 2892s | take shortcuts um to really get to the |
| 2895s | point not mess around with things that |
| 2897s | aren't important yeah um |

| 2901s | i get to nerd out a lot more on my |
| 2903s | research like a lot more |
| 2906s | because we tend to cover stuff that like |
| 2908s | touches some historical aspects so uh |
| 2910s | that's been great now |

| 2914s | started the project i was like yeah i |
| 2916s | have all this research that i've done |

| 2919s | down for a few days and just compile it |

| 3424s | kind of guess by how i'm speaking about |
| 3426s | it um the classes will have challenges |
| 3429s | in which you can get some sets like this |

| 3434s | it the name um and the design behind it |
| 3437s | um i think it's one of my favorite sets |

| 3443s | say it's the ranger the ranger one the |
| 3445s | adaptive owner yeah yeah yeah okay so |

| 3454s | valk reset i did a super wide range it |
| 3457s | was my first concept on the project so i |
| 3459s | covered like a super wide range wide |
| 3462s | range to uh to see what's the vibe we |
| 3464s | wanted to do for the valkyries and one |
| 3465s | of them was this like really dark |
| 3468s | vibe |
| 3469s | um |
| 3470s | that uh i was referring to like uh |
| 3473s | ravens uh because |
| 3476s | values can be associated with ravens |
| 3477s | because they're associated with odin |
| 3479s | who's also associated |
| 3481s | and uh it it wasn't quite like this but |
| 3483s | it was really similar in vibe so i |
| 3486s | actually |
| 3487s | went back pulled from there and then |
| 3489s | just like progressed from that.now that |
| 3491s | was originally created yeah as among the |
| 3493s | explorations for the uh |
| 3495s | for the va not even the fallout not just |
| 3496s | the bathroom |
| 3497s | yeah |
| 3499s | odin's ravens maybe john said called |
| 3508s | yeah exactly so i mean there's like a |
| 3511s | a raven like skull just like it's |
| 3515s | but huge |
| 3516s | it's a raven-like skull on that costume |
| 3518s | yeah i mean it kind of kind of makes |
| 3519s | sense with me for the ranger too because |
| 3521s | when i think ranger i think like fast i |
| 3522s | think like speedy i think like i'm like |
| 3524s | flying flying through you know the paths |
| 3526s | going as fast as like far distances |
| 3527s | right yeah yeah exactly exactly and we |
| 3530s | also made it dark i think i'm not sure |
| 3533s | if it's elementally done |
| 3535s | yeah no that's cool um and then we also |
| 3537s | have uh another one so obviously it's |
| 3539s | not just one set um as you can expect |
| 3541s | with what i said there is a |
| 3543s | cosmetic set you can earn for each of |
| 3545s | the classes the next one we wanted to |
| 3547s | talk about was for the warrior so i'm |
| 3549s | going to have it up on screen now |
| 3551s | this looks very different from the |
| 3552s | ranger set um if you want to tell us a |
| 3554s | little bit about uh the adaptive tier |
| 3557s | uh yeah so i um |
| 3560s | i had started exploring just like a |
| 3562s | couple of vibes that were a bit |
| 3564s | probably a bit too |
| 3565s | too much of like uh |
| 3567s | like a ranger like |
| 3569s | like wilding kind of uh person |
| 3572s | um |
| 3573s | but i had this uh |
| 3575s | so there was originally this idea of |
| 3576s | like |
| 3578s | someone with like a a wolf |
| 3580s | like |
| 3580s | main |
| 3581s | uh |
| 3583s | like helmet that was made of a wolf man |
| 3586s | kind of like the uh i think it's called |
| 3587s | a bear said yeah um |
| 3590s | yeah a bit of that vibe more sleek |

| 3594s | and then we were like well we wanted the |
| 3597s | sets to be associated with a given |
| 3600s | animal |
| 3602s | and uh and so i think i hadn't looked at |
| 3604s | like berserkers and |
| 3606s | the berserkers had like there were |
| 3607s | different types that were associated |
| 3609s | with different animals one of them was |
| 3611s | the board yeah well that's going to be |
| 3613s | the the warrior one yep and uh where i |
| 3615s | pitched it and i think god will said uh |
| 3617s | said yeah because he had won i don't |
| 3619s | remember how much back and forth there |
| 3620s | was to associating the animals but uh |
| 3623s | yeah i pitched the board he said yeah so |
| 3625s | i did some some different takes and it |
| 3627s | progressed towards something that had |
| 3629s | more uh more armored but that wasn't |
| 3631s | like huge and super tanky yeah still |
| 3634s | could be kind of mobile |
| 3636s | uh |
| 3637s | yeah and i think the uh if you can see |
| 3639s | the kind of like |
| 3640s | not spikes the kind of studs |
| 3643s | that are just kind of yeah |
| 3646s | like is it like on on the shoulders are |
| 3648s | you talking about are on the yeah yeah |
| 3650s | yeah or it's shaped kind of like these |
| 3652s | little pyramids that are like stacked |
| 3654s | yeah she stole that from a concept um i |
| 3656s | think it was the illustration |
| 3659s | for |
| 3660s | the warrior class that you see in the |
| 3663s | menus when you're |
| 3666s | scaling up your your lawyer class that |
| 3668s | you've selected |
| 3670s | from that illustration i was like dope i |
| 3672s | really like that uh but i'm gonna take |
| 3674s | it and kind of push it a little bit more |
| 3676s | yep uh |
| 3677s | yeah so it was a combination |
| 3679s | pulling from |
| 3681s | some other illustrations trying to get |
| 3684s | the right |
| 3685s | vibe in terms of how heavy the character |
| 3687s | is yeah and uh getting keeping a little |
| 3689s | bit of a board |
| 3691s | nice someone said an inverse iron maiden |
| 3695s | an inverse yeah i guess yeah |
| 3696s | everything's pointing out that is true |
| 3698s | that is spiky though yeah that is true |
| 3700s | yeah i like what you i also like what |
| 3701s | you said about um that each of the |
| 3703s | classes uh has an animal association |
| 3705s | with it i think that comes very clear |
| 3707s | when you see all the classes together um |
| 3709s | and guys stay tuned because we before |

| 3715s | so yeah i also like uh and i had |

| 3886s | complete in-game in order to get each |
