| 954s | northfall on tribes of midgard and i'm |

| 1163s | game make sure that you sign up to |
| 1166s | the shift website and you have to make |
| 1168s | sure that shift is linked in tribes of |
| 1170s | midgard so some of our mods will drop |

| 1639s | question from somebody who i know is in |
| 1641s | the chat um who is tribesbot aka one of |
| 1644s | our mods um and they were asking |
| 1647s | sort of if we take it back to the start |
| 1649s | um what sources of inspiration did you |
| 1651s | pull for tribes norse related or other |
| 1653s | source of gameplay style and mechanics |
| 1655s | story and design and how did we make |
| 1657s | that in our own vision |
| 1659s | kind of yeah so when uh when we started |
| 1661s | tribes um i would say the three main |
| 1663s | influences we had from uh from a design |
| 1666s | perspective um where obviously don't |
| 1669s | starve together we always thought that |
| 1671s | that was a fantastic game and a |
| 1673s | fantastic foundation for what we wanted |
| 1675s | to do |
| 1676s | the issue with dunstar together that we |
| 1678s | found was |
| 1680s | it was targeting um some players that |
| 1683s | are very hardcore it's a very uh deep |
| 1686s | and and not super accessible game like |
| 1689s | when you start playing it you get to |
| 1690s | understand it's a beautiful game in |
| 1692s | terms of of of complexity and depth but |
| 1694s | we wanted something a bit |
| 1696s | um |
| 1696s | a bit more accessible um i would say on |
| 1699s | our side um so it was a great foundation |
| 1701s | for us to to look at uh don't starve and |
| 1703s | don't start together in particular um |
| 1706s | monster hunter uh we're big fans of |
| 1708s | of monster hunter and you can see that |
| 1710s | kind of uh |
| 1712s | um |
| 1712s | a feel of of uh fighting the giants in |
| 1715s | tribes and fighting those great |
| 1716s | creatures and the whole rpg aspect of it |
| 1719s | uh that was a big inspiration and of |
| 1721s | course our beloved legend of zelda and |
| 1724s | especially breath of the wild big fans |
| 1726s | here you can kind of see in the |
| 1727s | aesthetic as well that we kind of |
| 1730s | took took some cues from there even |
| 1732s | though we have a quite a unique uh comic |
| 1734s | style aesthetic as well but i would say |
| 1737s | yeah i mean all games are always |
| 1739s | there's always an inspiration behind |
| 1740s | games and it's not just a a recipe like |
| 1743s | it's it's not a science recipe where we |
| 1744s | sell two grams of |
| 1746s | of uh |
| 1748s | yeah a couple of uh sprinkle it with a |
| 1750s | bit of the knights more like those are |
| 1752s | major games that we enjoyed very much |
| 1754s | internally and that we were drawing some |
| 1756s | inspiration from um but at the end of |
| 1758s | the day uh it was really about |
| 1761s | wanting to |
| 1763s | tell the story of |
| 1765s | what would you feel like if you were a |
| 1768s | person uh happening during i mean taking |
| 1771s | place during uh ragnarok as a human like |
| 1774s | what would you feel if you were if you |
| 1775s | were that human and ragnarok is |
| 1777s | happening and you have just giant |
| 1778s | monsters in then you know that the |
| 1779s | onsets are coming and how would you feel |
| 1781s | like basically um you know that knows |
| 1783s | mythology is very important to us in |
| 1784s | terms of of company |
| 1787s | you can see it on the logo you can see |
| 1788s | it on the name yeah i do have the |
| 1790s | norseville t-shirt on me at the moment |
| 1792s | um |
| 1793s | so yeah we thought hey |
| 1795s | you know what this this nose mythology |
| 1797s | it's often |
| 1798s | kind of |
| 1799s | dream to a certain extent grim looking |
| 1802s | because you have those tales of of death |
| 1804s | and rebirth and and and yeah it can be |
| 1806s | quite serious but at norseville we |
| 1808s | really wanted to make sure that we would |
| 1810s | tell the story of the the most fun parts |
| 1813s | about nose mythology and and provide |
| 1815s | something that was very colorful and uh |
| 1818s | take the essence of what survival games |
| 1820s | were but making them way more accessible |
| 1822s | so very colorful very pick up and play |
| 1824s | and and really create a communal |
| 1826s | experience about um about about that uh |
| 1828s | that feel um so that was really the |
| 1830s | starting point and then of course |
| 1832s | tries being the type of game it is it's |
| 1834s | very easy for us to keep on scaling and |
| 1836s | adding and adding and adding and i mean |
| 1838s | we're here to celebrate one year of |
| 1839s | tribe and if we look at where we were a |
| 1842s | year ago and where we are today and you |
| 1844s | haven't seen the last six months that |
| 1846s | we've been working on uh yeah it's been |
| 1848s | an amazing an amazing journey um so i'm |
| 1850s | not going to spoil it too much there's |
| 1852s | going to be some very exciting stuff |
| 1853s | coming up in just over two weeks uh but |
| 1856s | already like even things like swimming |
| 1858s | like who would have thought that |
| 1859s | um swimming would happen like of course |
| 1861s | we knew that swimming would happen but |
| 1863s | yeah it's kind of crazy to think that |
| 1864s | you couldn't swim when we launched so |
| 1866s | it's a great journey he's been fantastic |
| 1868s | too to |
| 1869s | experience that journey with uh with you |
| 1871s | all and we keep on refining the game we |
| 1873s | keep on expanding it uh in great part |
| 1875s | thanks your feedback |

| 1879s | that it's it's fantastic keep giving it |
| 1882s | keep giving the feedback no absolutely i |

| 1901s | least yeah exactly but no that makes |
| 1903s | sense and even like as you know me |
| 1905s | starting three years ago i feel like |
| 1907s | that's that's always been from the start |
| 1909s | it's been like if you were a human |
| 1910s | during these times uh how would you |
| 1912s | experience this in the world around you |
| 1913s | in midgard that's always been it from |
| 1915s | the start and just to see it evolve it's |
| 1917s | been amazing just to see everything but |
| 1918s | you know that's happened even in the |
| 1920s | past like three years since development |
| 1921s | has been astounding yeah it's been a |
| 1924s | long journey i mean we started making |
| 1926s | this game almost five years ago now so |
| 1929s | it's been it's been quite a journey when |
| 1930s | we started with the aviation we were |
| 1933s | seven or eight in the company we're now |
| 1935s | 40. |
| 1936s | so yeah things have been have been |
| 1938s | scaling on a level and it's kind of |
| 1941s | insane for us to see that this idea we |
| 1945s | had back in the days we just it just |
| 1946s | materialized and with the help of the |
| 1948s | whole team we were able to |
| 1950s | deliver something to our community |
| 1952s | and our early adopters too because we |
| 1954s | did those closed alphas close open betas |
| 1957s | more than two years before launch even |
| 1959s | so we've had people with us from the |
| 1961s | beginning um really believing in the |
| 1963s | project and we're extremely thankful for |
| 1965s | that yeah i 100 agree it's it's always |
| 1968s | been community built like from the very |
| 1969s | very start and if you were part of those |

| 2047s | know we want to add everything in the |
| 2048s | end you know because it's so big that's |
| 2050s | the thing yeah that's the thing that uh |

| 2055s | nose mythology um |
| 2057s | there is a lot of things happening there |
| 2059s | and and most of it people don't even |
| 2061s | know about um they know some of the |
| 2063s | classic arcs and i think um |
| 2066s | in recent years with the |
| 2068s | uh |
| 2069s | rise of vikings in popular culture from |
| 2072s | the viking series to even god of war |
| 2074s | even assassin's creed valhalla |
| 2077s | um |
| 2078s | to to even the thor movies even though |
| 2080s | like they they take a lot of liberties |
| 2082s | compared to the to the original material |
| 2084s | people have started to get used to some |
| 2086s | of the characters where i don't think |
| 2088s | that 20 years ago you would have |
| 2090s | mentioned some of the names of gods and |
| 2092s | goddesses and people would have been i |
| 2093s | don't know who that is |
| 2094s | um now people are a bit more educated |
| 2097s | around around the norse mythology not as |
| 2099s | much as other mythology like like greek |
| 2101s | mythology which is way more well known |
| 2104s | but that being said we try to |
| 2107s | we try to follow a line where we don't |
| 2109s | want people to be completely lost |
| 2111s | with |
| 2112s | the types of |
| 2113s | characters and myth that we want to |
| 2115s | portray in the game we want to |
| 2117s | again take some of the popular myths and |
| 2119s | and really make them um |
| 2124s | appealing on the broad spectrum so that |
| 2126s | people can kind of discover it's kind of |
| 2128s | an entry door if you don't know norse |
| 2130s | mythology you can get through tribes and |
| 2132s | then you get a sense of okay those are |
| 2134s | kind of the staples of that mythology |
| 2137s | and if you know the mythology very well |
| 2139s | um there are also a lot of nuggets here |
| 2141s | and there yeah especially in the |
| 2142s | description of weapons in the |
| 2144s | description of materials |
| 2145s | you have some very |
| 2147s | more obscure references that we take |
| 2149s | some from of the books that we have here |
| 2152s | at the studio and then we say oh like |
| 2154s | this we can drop some lines there and |
| 2155s | those who are uh more advanced in terms |
| 2158s | of knowing about the the this popular |
| 2161s | culture |
| 2162s | can get some tidbits of like oh yeah i |
| 2163s | remember that i remember that um there |
| 2166s | there's not a straight method what i can |
| 2168s | tell you is that for |
| 2170s | um |
| 2172s | the saga bosses for instance |
| 2175s | so you've seen fenrir you've seen yom |
| 2177s | gander you might seen at some point |
| 2179s | who's the third one |
| 2181s | who knows |
| 2184s | but yeah for for these ones the the two |
| 2186s | first one like they're they're very uh |
| 2188s | well-known they're very accessible again |
| 2190s | and accessibilities are important to us |
| 2192s | um and uh yeah we wanted to start with |
| 2195s | them um it was very clear actually from |
| 2197s | the beginning |
| 2199s | that um we wanted to portray these two |
| 2202s | and the third one we knew already who it |
| 2203s | was going to be and actually the fourth |
| 2205s | one too um so we had that vision of uh |
| 2208s | the long term of where we wanted to go |
| 2210s | with the mythology and and and really |
| 2212s | where |
| 2213s | there's not really any limit inside but |
| 2215s | from the beginning we knew exactly where |
| 2217s | uh we were gonna go |
| 2218s | um so yeah we're |

| 2223s | happy to to explore uh what's around us |
| 2225s | and then bring that forth for the |
| 2227s | community to enjoy |

| 2232s | lore i feel like so much of it even when |
| 2234s | i'm playing like a look through and i'll |
| 2235s | read the lore descriptions they're so |
| 2237s | packed those descriptions for like the |
| 2239s | items the equipment you know the |
| 2240s | materials like they're all they all have |
| 2242s | that lars nor norse lore flavor why is |
| 2246s | that so hard to say you know what i mean |
| 2247s | when you when you read through the |
| 2248s | descriptions and even even some |
| 2250s | subscriptions have you know inspiration |
| 2252s | from the community um as well which |
| 2254s | which was really fun that we were able |
| 2255s | to like put those in there too yeah |
| 2257s | we're definitely taking uh from that |
| 2259s | book too and then i mean we have the the |
| 2261s | linda linda pet which is a an all-time |
| 2263s | favorite so so we love weaving as much |
| 2265s | as we can from the community uh as well |
| 2268s | in some of the descriptions uh like we |
| 2270s | also take a lot of liberty because again |
| 2271s | we don't want |
| 2273s | that world to be grim so we uh we show |
| 2275s | things and we write things that are very |
| 2277s | uh lighthearted or we take a fun twist |
| 2280s | on on some of the elements like we do |
| 2281s | with balder saying like drop dead |
| 2284s | gorgeous it's like yeah but if you know |
| 2285s | what happened he got shot with an arrow |
| 2287s | by his brother basically and so yeah |
| 2290s | we're just we're just playing around um |

| 2293s | unlike what a lot of people think norse |
| 2295s | mythology is actually quite hilarious |
| 2297s | you have there's an episode with with uh |
| 2300s | thor being dressed as a bride like it's |
| 2302s | it's very silly um |
| 2304s | and in a good way and we wanted to play |
| 2306s | more on that light-hearted tone rather |
| 2308s | than the grim rights doomsday scenario |
| 2311s | like we don't need more of that we |
| 2313s | wanted to bring some joy with uh with |
| 2315s | cool colors and something that everyone |
| 2317s | could enjoy absolutely um and i just see |
| 2320s | a couple comments i'll just flag them |
| 2321s | here and there yeah people saying linda |
| 2323s | we love linda um i want to know more |
| 2325s | about the frog prince like yeah linda is |
| 2328s | the best truly i have to say something |

| 2414s | material but for sure uh our artists are |
| 2417s | having a blast just interpreting those |
| 2420s | myths as well absolutely |

| 2505s | for the future there's no doubt about |
| 2507s | that it goes back to saying the uh |
| 2509s | nose mythology is very deep in terms of |
| 2512s | of context and and what we can do and |
| 2514s | stories and different arcs we can |
| 2516s | explore so we want to keep on on working |
| 2519s | on that for the foreseeable future um |
| 2521s | that is uh that is certain and uh yeah |
| 2523s | the vision um again from the beginning |
| 2526s | was |
| 2527s | to try to build that that sandbox uh |
| 2530s | sandbox knowles mythology game where oh |
| 2533s | you want to go after and and do the arc |
| 2535s | that gets you to fenrir you can do that |
| 2536s | you want to go after and do the ark that |
| 2538s | gets you to yomi you can do that you |
| 2540s | want to do the arc that goes to |
| 2542s | who knows who in season 3 you can do |

| 2547s | yeah it's it's about expanding that |
| 2549s | expanding that that sandbox with not |

| 2554s | new um new content but also new features |
| 2557s | and i think you've seen a glimpse of |
| 2558s | things like fishing uh coming up so yeah |
| 2560s | you could swim now you'll be able to |
| 2562s | fish we've already revealed that so it's |
| 2565s | all about expanding the experience of |
| 2566s | that and the end of the day |
| 2569s | we're looking ahead in the future |
| 2571s | you will enter tribes and you have that |

| 2575s | mythology world to explore in very |
| 2577s | different ways like not only can you |
| 2579s | fight these things but you can also like |
| 2582s | build everywhere and just |

| 2585s | that world your own and really uh go |

| 2589s | about the possibilities that you have |
| 2591s | and that's that's three division just |
| 2593s | keeping on adding uh as many seasons um |
| 2596s | as we can always for free and and yeah |
| 2598s | keep on building our community around |
| 2600s | around the game yeah absolutely and i |
| 2603s | think as you know we keep building and |
| 2604s | building i think a question that a lot |
| 2606s | of people have had has been like what's |
| 2608s | it gonna look like well you're gonna of |
| 2609s | course be able to fight all of the |
| 2611s | bosses you know moving forward we're |
| 2613s | gonna it's gonna just stack up on each |
| 2614s | other it's gonna be so much fun that you |
| 2616s | know you'll be able to be in this kind |
| 2617s | of sandbox as you said um and i think a |
| 2619s | lot of the sandbox feeling is gonna come |
| 2621s | with the season three update as well um |
| 2623s | in the fact that you know we've talked |
| 2625s | about the new revamped survival mode the |
| 2626s | fact that you're gonna be able to build |
| 2628s | you know take your time relax a little |
| 2629s | bit i think you guys are really gonna |
| 2631s | get a taste of like what that's going to |
| 2633s | feel like um in the future of the game |
| 2634s | and the direction that it's going |
| 2636s | because that's a very i wouldn't say a |
| 2637s | very different take but it's a it's |
| 2639s | quite a different take from what we have |

| 3166s | the same ones and that there are some of |

| 3170s | uh might not be as bad you're valuable |
| 3172s | to your play style so that's that's |
| 3174s | perfectly fine uh we haven't done |
| 3177s | something in the sense of saying uh you |
| 3179s | can kind of check or uncheck which runes |
| 3182s | you would like to see drop because we |
| 3184s | think that is a step too far but |
| 3187s | what we did is that you're now for |
| 3189s | season three |
| 3190s | no longer limited to just having five |
| 3193s | runes on you you can pick up more just |
| 3195s | like regular weapons and then you choose |
| 3198s | which of the five ones or six if you're |
| 3200s | a warden uh want to equip |
| 3203s | so that means that you're never |
| 3206s | again in a scenario where you think hey |
| 3209s | am i gonna pick this rune up or not |
| 3211s | that's the first thing so unless there's |
| 3213s | pressure on choice there and if there is |
| 3214s | a rune that you don't like well you can |
| 3216s | still pick it up and then you can either |
| 3218s | resell it uh |
| 3219s | at a sorcerer or you can keep it for |
| 3221s | later because that's the only the other |
| 3222s | beauty of the of that system is um let's |
| 3225s | say you're fighting fenrir you want a |
| 3227s | specific set you activate the five runs |
| 3229s | you want |
| 3230s | and then up you have you hop onto |
| 3232s | another fight with with your magender |
| 3234s | the army as we call him with your me and |
| 3237s | then you activate five different runes |
| 3238s | well you can kind of change your |
| 3239s | playstyle in your strategy and and that |
| 3241s | can also be um um |
| 3244s | tied to the type of armor and equipment |
| 3246s | um you're wearing so we think that that |
| 3248s | will already alleviate |
| 3250s | a bit of the of the issue and we heard |
| 3252s | you and we think |
| 3253s | that is yeah it really opens up the game |
| 3255s | because |
| 3256s | it used to be that the runes were a very |
| 3259s | um random thing like you pick them up |
| 3262s | and you're happy when you pick them up |
| 3263s | but then you find a new one you're like |
| 3265s | what am i going to drop in favor of that |
| 3267s | now it's more like hey i'm going to pick |
| 3269s | that up too if i'm interested and then |
| 3271s | hey there is this situation in front of |
| 3273s | me how about now i reshuffle things a |
| 3275s | bit |
| 3276s | and that's even more true in survival |
| 3278s | mode now that is |
| 3280s | again we'll spend many more hours than a |
| 3282s | saga session so now you can really start |
| 3284s | building uh your character with uh with |
| 3287s | that in in mind and |
| 3289s | it it feels quite fresh like it's a it's |
| 3291s | a it's a new way to to play around the |
| 3293s | game and and again it goes to show that |
| 3295s | we like to revisit all content in in new |
| 3297s | ways as well like even some of those |
| 3299s | runes that you might think ah |
| 3301s | yeah |
| 3302s | they were only potent if i had five of |
| 3304s | them well guess what if you pick them up |
| 3305s | the five of them and then all of a |
| 3307s | sudden oh hang on a second i have five |
| 3309s | of those well i'm gonna equip the five |
| 3310s | and then you get to see the results so |
| 3312s | we think uh it's gonna reshuffle things |
| 3314s | quite a bit already |
| 3315s | yeah absolutely nobody's excited at all |

| 3403s | music in tribes is made by our uh our |
| 3406s | friends at vibe avenue it's another |
| 3408s | studio based in montreal |
| 3410s | we're super good friends with them and |
| 3412s | they make amazing music and all the |
| 3413s | music they make is actually recorded |
| 3416s | at their studio which is |
| 3418s | very well equipped with i don't know how |
| 3420s | many instruments it's it's quite |
| 3421s | impressive and and actually |
| 3423s | um making a kind of a making off |
| 3427s | of tribes at the moment and it's a |
| 3428s | partnership |
| 3430s | that will be uh revealed soon um so |
| 3432s | we'll be able to shed a bit more light |
| 3433s | into the the process of how do we um |
| 3436s | work with them to create the music of of |
| 3439s | tribes of midgard so very excited about |
| 3441s | that as you can imagine with season |
| 3443s | three we do have some |
| 3445s | new musical creations |
| 3448s | as well |
| 3448s | and yeah we're definitely |
| 3451s | working with vibe to provide a full-on |
| 3455s | ost |
| 3456s | that would be |
| 3458s | mastered specifically for that purpose |
| 3460s | because i know that we've we've done it |
| 3462s | in the past where |
| 3463s | we uh we put on youtube some of the |
| 3465s | tracks and and and and we've done that |
| 3467s | and it's fun but what |
| 3469s | vibe avenue wants to do is really |
| 3471s | master um those tracks so that they're |
| 3474s | edited with the various layers because |
| 3476s | like in tribes every track has uh |
| 3479s | different layers like if you're in the |
| 3480s | forest and then an enemy appears or |
| 3483s | comes close to you the track will |
| 3484s | slightly change and if the enemy |
| 3486s | is of a uh |
| 3488s | a more dangerous level that track will |
| 3491s | amplify and it's not just the volume |
| 3494s | that that gets cranked up it's actually |
| 3495s | barely the volume it's the amount of |
| 3497s | instruments that are added so if you |
| 3499s | play pay close attention you will hear a |
| 3502s | lot of that layering and the layering is |
| 3504s | also happening if it's during the day |
| 3506s | during dusk or during the night |
| 3508s | so for all of these reasons vibe really |
| 3510s | wants to make tracks per |
| 3512s | environment where they explore those |
| 3514s | layering so as to create yeah proper |
| 3516s | tracks that will then be um shared |
| 3519s | across across the board uh we're looking |
| 3522s | into putting them even on spotify so |
| 3524s | yeah it's definitely uh something in the |
| 3526s | works |
| 3527s | stay tuned um probably within the next |
| 3529s | two months we should have uh we should |
| 3531s | have them very exciting that's so |
| 3533s | exciting and i feel like yeah i'm so |

| 3536s | soundtracks of season three i've of |

| 3620s | jaime guardian is the language spoken by |
| 3622s | all the sentient creatures in uh tribal |
| 3625s | submit cards so including the human so |
| 3627s | it's that kind of mix of icelandic and |
| 3629s | swedish that we put together |
| 3631s | so we always write some more to uh |
| 3634s | uh with with each new season and so we |
| 3636s | wrote some more lines for the new |
| 3637s | enemies and the new saga boss of course |

| 4550s | planted so um we had this challenge we |
| 4553s | were like how many giants can you slay |
| 4554s | and then in the end there was in just a |
| 4556s | couple hours forty thousand giants were |
| 4558s | slain which meant that we planted forty |
| 4560s | thousand trees |
| 4562s | um which is super great because it was |
| 4563s | like you guys were killing the giants |
| 4565s | and then also how the trees iron |
| 4567s | it was a partnership with the with one |
| 4569s | tree planted |

| 4575s | plants the trees yeah they do plant the |
