There is no "Player Assessment" at any point in Ranked. By this, I mean that the matchmaking system acts the same as Random Battles in selecting players and assigning them across teams in matches.

The only seperation that exists is in the form of Queues.

Imagine a situation where you had 3 Ranked Battle buttons. One Bronze, one Silver, and one Gold. Only Bronze is lit up and clickable as the start of a season.

If you Rank Out and qualify for Silver, the Bronze Button greys out and the Silver becomes clickable. You are now only able to play "Silver Ranked Battles" and you are matched using Random Matchmaker for this queue, just like you were with Bronze Ranked Battles.

In short, a different League is a different Queue.

I split this post out to be its own thread. This is likely something other folks would like to chime in on, but doesn't need to be debated out in the Tree Explaining thread.

As for the Christmas Tree Event, it's really just supposed to be that you click "Participate" and then play the game.

Clicking the Ornaments to read a mission and then having to just remember if you've done it or not was annoying/confusing to players, so in-game missions were created to help people track if they'd done the basic condition or not.

There was a mission I remember fondly for about 2 .5 years ago. "The Battle of the Philipines", I think.

It was a weekend mission where you picked a side "US or IJN", and for the weekend you'd get points for winning battles or for achieving over a set amount of Base XP (750 for the US, and 1,250 for IJN). There was no in-game meter for tracking your "points", however, so I was...

This isn't correct.

Many games have a "Casual Play" and a "Ranked Play" mode for users to choose a basic or more competitive experience. Ranked Battle being always on allows us to be closer to that standard.

Our Ranked Battles are different, however, in that you can only play so many times until you Rank Out and have to stop. Other games have no "end point". This allows us to maintain Random Battle's Queue Health, so that play experiences are matched faster without a consistently spread out playerbase.

As for resources, there's no need to spend money or flags on anything. Many people rank out in tech tree ships and don't use flags. The grind is the time/effort spent, which rewards a special resource, Steel.

Ranked is not under Skill Based Matchmaking. Ranked is a "Seperated Queue" system.

Everyone starts in the Bronze Ranked Queue, but after ranking out they can Opt In to go to Silver Ranked Queue. This is done by completing the Silver Qualifier challenge.

After passing Qualifiers to Silver, Players only play in the Silver Ranked Queue, but after ranking out they can Opt In to go to Gold Ranked Queue. This is done by completing the Gold Qualifier challenge.

Once in the Gold Queue, you will place only in the Gold Queue until the end of the season.

There is no background Skill Assessment. It's purely about which Queue a player wants to reach and play in.

Gold being the hardest to reach also has less players. As well, there are other factors:

Submarines and Superships being tested in Ranked has lowered interest for some

The Gold Grind isn't ...

If I recall correctly, it usually maxs out around a 2 League jump. So Hurricane could see Storm, Typhoon could see Gale, Storm could be Breeze. This is all after a sufficiently long wait.

Some people come to grasp CV very quickly/naturally. The issue with German CV is more about like... citadel position memorization. After that, it comes down to striking on a really good line in order to get the citadels. Or, in some cases, intentionally coming in at a slight angle to make sure the rockets bite instead of overpen.

It's not that it's super crazy, but it's just not something I recommend as a starting point. Players are always going to want a "Do X and see results" style of play, which the US/IJN/RU lines are the most consistent about.

If the OP is learned in CVs and Striking, German CVs can be very powerful indeed~

I'd actually recommend the Ranger as a starting CV. The US CV setup is generally applicable to a wide range of ship types, and the health/movement of the planes is conducive to newer players.

German CVs are actually an advanced line. They require precision to get Citadels and stay relevant in the match, which is something newer players will have a tough time with.

The range of opponents able to be chosen increases the longer a Team waits in the matchmaker. Hurricane Clans can face some rather underpowered teams if the wait is long enough.

The points Gained/Lost is based upon the difference between the two team standings.

It's actually just Current Team Rating. The players that compose the team are not factored, so it's generally assumed that folks on that team are representative of the team's current rating.

Just something to know about me. There was a time where I felt exhausted and had no will to play Randoms. I was Co-Op/Operation only for about 3 months because I just couldn't feel inspired enough to try to claw wins.

Personally, I do tend to be driven by events and will do crazy grinds because I want to be "current"/"up to date". As I've gotten busier, I've started being willing to let things go, however. If only for my own sanity.

---

I'm aware of what Co-Op is and is like. The line of questions I have is because there's a large variety of responses I'm getting.

Some folks seem to be completionists that want to do everything, always. Therefor, all missions, or at least objectives, MUST be available regardless of mode/play preferrence. Others are less concerned when they see something that has a mild reward that is more annoyance than it's worth.

I'm trying to accumulate enough information that ...

No.

I recognize I'm walking into what is potentially years of history and GRRR, but I'm going to ask that we try to focus on the overall goal.

I want to help, and to do that I need to know what the end-game is here. What are the "MUST HAPPEN"s so that I know what constraints I have to be looking out for and representing. As one of your CMs, I'm here to represent your interests.

So, I have a direct question to the folks here. The more information you can give me, the more I can translate this into getting events shaped the way you'll enjoy.

I am asking how I need to represent you, so please give this some thought and honest responses.

1) Is it a Functional Requirement that you NEVER, and I mean EVER, have to play any other mode then Co-Op to complete a mission/task?

2) Can we can take as a given that Holiday modes/Novelty modes are their own thing that may have missions based around playing the temporary mode? Outside of this specific instance, is it that EVERY MISSION/TASK MUST be have a Co-Op version?

3) Is it that Challenge Missions MUST be formatted in a way that they are "OR"-style missions which allow a non-Co-Op metric for success and a Co-Op metric for success? Missions like this may be doable, but correspondingly hard to achieve to a Co-Op player as to a R...

You are correct. I don't understand why I'm being told that that we're insulting people for creating challenge missions.

Challenge missions are designed to be attainable, but hard to achieve. In many cases, they may NOT be achieved. Currently there's a Novorossiysk mission looking for a 2700+ Base XP win. I have no idea what percentage of the playerbase will complete that mission, but I wouldn't be surprised if it's in single digit percentages.

To me, the idea that challenges exist and may not be achieved is ok. While I'm a bit OCD about finishing all my combat missions, I've learned when some are explicitly designed to be outliers. Those, I just commit to myself that I'm not doing them, like with the 2700 Base XP mission.

I will reference this later, so please remember your thoughts from reading this section.

You're going to have to describe "support".

Do you mean Co-Op only mis...

Yes, the recent Brawls were matchmade regarding Win Rate. If memory serves, Base XP earnings were also factored to give additional context to "player skill"

After a few hours, some of the higher-end players just couldn't play anymore. They waited in the queue until they gave up.

Skill Based Matchmaker is Clan Battles

Skill Based Balancing was Brawls

Both were quite public and played by many!

What do you mean, "It showed up in the notifications yet not in the containers section."?

Also, did you have unopened containers at the time of claiming?

The event was sent to us in NA to review and Opt In or not. We requested some adjustements because some missions were quite outlier for our audience. Outside of that, it looked fine.

I do not see 1k Base XP as an unattainable goal, as it can be achieved in just a few games of Randoms or Ranked or a novelty mode if one is available, so I had no qualms with the 1k Base XP for X Class mission structuring.

---

Can you help me understand as to why it is unacceptable to expect someone to play a few Random Battles? Is there a deeper reasoning for why the primary mode choice should be actively avoided?

Note: I split the related posts out to a new thread to avoid cluttering the Christmas Tree Explanation.
