[23:27:12][virtualfilesystem_physfs.cpp:1193]: Could not open file: settings.txt, error: permission denied
Your antivirus app is preventing the game from making that missing settings.txt file. With the MS store edition this is a bit trickier to deal with that with Steam, as MS lock down the game's installation folder so tight you cannot get to it.

Whatever antivirus app you use, it should have a place where you can see what it has recently blocked. Go into that screen and allow through stellaris.exe and paradox launcher.exe at least.

Good luck!

Please try the following:

- unsubscribe from all mods
- delete the folder Documents/paradox/Stellaris/mod/
- delete the file Documents/paradox/Stellaris/mods_registry.json
- delete the file Documents/paradox/Stellaris/launcher-v2.sqlite

Add Stellaris.exe to the exceptions list of your antivirus app; ESPECIALLY if you have Windows Defender, add it to the Ransomware "Apps Allowed Through" list. You should add steam.exe and C:/users//AppData/Local/Programs/Paradox Interactive/launcher-v2.2021.1/paradox launcher.exe to that list.

- subscribe to a few mods
- run the game up and see if those mods are now available to you.

I hope that does it for you!

2021-02-20 01:13:17 [repository] [WARNING] Error in response: Get : signing TTL received is too close to current time (threshold of 60 sec)
I've seen this caused by Windows not being on good internet time. Have them go into the Time&Date control panel and make sure Set Time Automatically is ON. Then hit the SYNC NOW button.

Then. do the process in post #2 again; they may have to exit and rerun the launcher a couple of times for all updates to apply .

All the best!

I am surprised that the choppiness is not visible in Task Manager!

Does this problem happen when paused, or only when running? Does it affect zooming or scrolling the map , or even if still?

It is certainly not a general or universal problem, no. Possibly there are other cases of course.

Please attach your Documents/Paradox/EU4/settings.txt and pdx_settings.txt .
From your Documents/Paradox/EU4/logs/ folder, attach system.log , error.log .

Also in Steam please click on Steam-Help-System Info, and paste everything there into a text file and attach that here.

DXDIAG is a program you run from a command prompt or the Windows start menu 'run' dialog box (or 'search programs' in Windows 7 or later). After running it will open a window and start collecting info with a progress bar in the lower-left corner. When it completes click the 'save all information' button and save it to a file then attach that file here.

Please attach your Documents/Paradox/Stellaris/settings.txt and pdx_settings.txt .
From your Documents/Paradox/Stellaris/logs/ folder, attach system.log , error.log .

We are just not seeing this problem any more, I thought Apple must have fixed it. I've been on 10.15.6 and now Big Sur with no problem.

What MacOS are you on now?

In the game launcher please set Display mode to Borderless.

IF that doesn't help, Install ALL these Microsoft modules:

Download Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 SP1 Redistributable Package (x86) from Official Microsoft Download Center

Your Windows 7 installation is a bit out of date. Did you run all those MS installers I listed? Any error or problem doing so?

Exit the Steam app entirely and run stellaris.exe directly from Windows Explorer, do you see any error when it fails now?

Please attach your Documents/Paradox/Stellaris/settings.txt and pdx_settings.txt .
From your Documents/Paradox/Stellaris/logs/ folder, attach system.log , error.log .

Steam needs to "phone home" every now and then to authenticate your DLC ownership. I guess that happened to trigger at that point.

That error log really looks like a corrupted or modded game installation still. Are you confident you deleted ALL files or folders left under either the Steam Stellaris or Documents Stellaris locations, before installing again ? Just uninstalling a game in Steam will not remove files in the game folders that Steam did not put there.

I can't think of anything else that would cause this on a Mac!

Has this always happened ever since you've had this game? Or only since when?

Does it affect CK2 and HOI4 also? Or just this game?

Doe sit matter what display mode the game is in?

You may as well update that nVidia driver:

Does this problem happen on every game speed, or just speed 5?

And run Task Manager and go to the Performance tab. When this problem is happening, what do you see in there? Are there jumps in CPU or GPU (or anything else) that match the stuttering you see in the game?

As i say, both those are old versions. Can i get you to do a default install of the launcher in thelocatin I described please?

- exit the Steam app entirely
- uninstall Paradox Launcher v2 from the Windows "Apps and features" utility, if still present.

Delete the following folders if still present:

- C:/users//AppData/Local/Programs/Paradox Interactive/
- C:/users//AppData/Local/Paradox Interactive/
- C:/users//AppData/Roaming/Paradox Interactive/launcher-v2/
To see the AppData folder you'll need to enable View Hidden Items in File Explorer.

- run steam.exe as the Windows Admin user

- run the game from the PLAY button in Steam

IF that doesn't help, in this folder are some .log files:
C:/users//AppData/Local/Paradox Interactive/launcher-v2/
Please attach them here.

Please do a full **clean** re-install:

- move any valued save games elsewhere, and user_empire_designs.txt from /Documents/Paradox Interactive/Stellaris/ if you have made any custom empires or races.
- "uninstall" in Steam-Stellaris
- manually delete both the Steam/SteamApps/common/Stellaris AND Documents/Paradox/Stellaris folders
- re-install game in Steam, run a Steam Verify when done.
- start the game with no mods active and test

In particular you need to make sure there are no files or folders left under either the Steam Stellaris or Documents Stellaris locations, before installing again.

**File Locations on Mac OS X**
The executable and DLC folder are in Users/USER/Library/Application Support/Steam/SteamApps/common/Stellaris/
To see it go to the Finder, hit command-shift-G (ie Go To) and type in ~/Library/ .
The user files (settings.txt, error logs, saved games, gfx, mods) are in /Users/USE... Read more
