Positive feedback is still feedback! On whatever platform you engage with RuneScape on, we use everything to help us generate data points - if you like something, say it! If it's fun, say it!

I need that data to help build reports so that I can go to the team every week and every month and say "Here's what they loved, here's what they liked" and give the team a little more reinforcement in the direction we should be aiming for!

So thank you in advance for feedback on these events and everything we've got cooking for the rest of the year!

(And to anyone seeing this, have a great DXP Live! OP doesn't need it, Mr Maxed over here!)

I appreciate that it’s going to be rare. But the magic of the phat is rarity + exclusivity. Coming back every year just isn’t the same. And I think y’all know that and are attempting to disrupt that equation.

So you are proposing a one-time rare that never comes back which could be argued to generate enormous amounts of FOMO? I've been forwarding a lot of feedback encouraging us to avoid that exact mentality, because it's been consistently cited as a point of contention within the community. Was I misunderstanding? I appreciate any more insight on this you can offer!

Why does it have to be an "incredible moment", isn't the whole event meant to be this? Something fresh, new, and exciting to take a break from the game and experience. New limited areas, quests, etc.

So you're saying the only way I can have an incredible time during this event is if it get an outrageously rare item from nonstop playing the game? Unless the other rewards are actually good, and not recolors, or 2 items you get from a quest.

Also, please, don't bring the wrapping paper event into the game, it's tedious, annoying, and forced gameplay mechanics isn't fun. I don't want to log in to ride an agility bike for 20hrs just in hopes to get that "incredible moment".

Well, the whole event is going to be an incredible experience, and I'm very excited for everyone to be there in the new location, trying out the new seasonal quest, together for those moments at Santa's Lodge.

(But again, for those who can't make Sunday evenings, that's ok!)

I would like to think that the time spent in RuneScape is always incredible. Playing nonstop has zero impact on your ability to get the Black Party Hat:

even the most dedicated helper to Santa isn't likely to find it (though you will be guaranteed other Christmassy cosmetics!)

So you'll be able to get a guaranteed cosmetic (they're really good, I'm very excited) every week, and catch up on ones you missed, exclusively through gameplay.

Rip, black phat Recurring every year losing all its value. Hype dead.

Well, I'd advise just waiting and seeing how many you see in the game once players can start getting their hands on them - as we said in the blog:

This will be an incredibly rare drop that only a small number of players will end up earning

I'm sure we'll have some kind of Treasure Hunter promotion for those players looking to pick up some awesome goodies but those have no impact on this event. Everything within the Christmas Village event is exclusively earned via gameplay.

EDIT: 11:15 Game Time:

Hey to come back on this with a bit more clarity -

The Christmas Village Event content is all exclusively earned via gameplay. There's new Christmas cosmetics to earn through the Quest / Seasonal Activities, and the Christmas Spirit shop is packed with old Christmas cosmetics to collect.

On top of the Christmas Village Event, we will have the Wrapping Paper system back as well. The Wrapping Paper event will have it's own rewards, including some seasonal ones, and you can earn Wrapping Paper through both gameplay and TH/bundles. The idea is that the Christmas Event has plenty of directly earnable content, and this layers on top of it as something separate that anyone...

One thing I didn’t see in the news post is a roadmap for next year, or like an announcement for when we will learn about next year. Is there plan for a overview stream in December like last year?

If we can share one, I personally would love to cap the year off like that, but I can't make any guarantees on that so right now I'm gonna say "Maybe, if we can."

I'll be sure to forward on your excitement. We can't wait either!

Everyone who talks to me is a Doomsayer, though... no? Happy Cake Day - glad we could mark this occasion with such a big wave of news!

Not gonna lie, that doesn't make it any better for me. "Here's a reward that's amazing, but don't worry you're not meant to ever get it".

The rest of the event stuff sounds amazing, but I'm against super rare time limited chase items in general.

That's totally valid feedback, but I want to stress that it's not a chase item. This isn't about chase rewards. It's about introducing a new, Christmas reward. Ideally, you'll see this as you see other Party Hats: "I know that this item was from Christmas!" and that the person with it was incredibly lucky.

You won't be left wanting for cosmetics, though! The seasonal quest contains a guaranteed reward and you get a new cosmetic every week for 1 nice point (you can earn 3 of those each day by: talking to the event host, completing all 3 of your daily challenges and doing 1 seasonal activity) and if you miss a week, you can catch up whenever during the event and trade 1 Nice point for each thing you missed.

You're well within your rights to have measured expectations! We'll share more as we get closer - but when we do, I expect raised hopes and full hype!

Makes it feel like you need to be constantly logged in the game in order to get the rarest of the rare drops, especially given this is a time-limited event.

Counter to the Vorkath cosmetics event which have distinct goals (with BLM if working like golden cape/ph), and can still be earned after the fact via boss drops.

It feels very "FOMO-ish"; having an uber rare in which your chance goes up the more you play, and is only around for a short period of time.

I'm not sure I understand?

only a small number of players will end up earning during the course of the event - even the most dedicated helper to Santa isn't likely to find it (though you will be guaranteed other Christmassy cosmetics!)

While I appreciate that it's time limited, we've got a generous timeframe in mind and the idea is that we're introducing this as a Christmas item that makes a recurring appearance every year, like the new Seasonal Quest, so that it's not a "one and done" thing.

People getting the Black Party Hat should be an incredible moment, and so we want it to feel like nobody has to chase the reward - it could happen to anyone!

The black phat being incredibly rare really recolors this as one big FOMO event. Yes there’s a quest and all the rest of classic RS holiday goodness, but it all feels overshadowed by the scramble to be one of the lucky few who get a rare.

Because it's not the reward. It's not designed to be chased.

This is about adding a distinctly 'Scapey special moment that could happen to our Christmas events, not as something you should come in expecting to find.

Someone getting a Black Party Hat should be an incredible moment - one that can happen across Christmases to come. The reason there are no paid routes to it is because it could happen to anyone:

even the most dedicated helper to Santa isn't likely to find it

I hope that helps shed some light on this.

This seems really bad if we're stuck to only being able to get rewards at this time. Which confuses me because of this next paragraph.

You'll also be able to hand in your Nice Points at Santa's Sleigh any time during the week if you can't be there for the communal Lodge opening on reset.

Can I just hand in at any time and claim rewards anytime?

Yes, this is correct - you can claim at any time, but the reset happens every Sunday evening and in those few hours, you can be part of the communal Lodge opening and share the experience together! Nobody's missing out if they're working Sunday evenings!

this entire newspost is one big W, you guys finally get it, an event that gives cosmetics and finally after it ends you put it back into the game through other means, the black Phat being really rare is ok, but it not being p2w'able is a big win as well, and an actual holiday quest to top it off.

I think I speak for the majority of the playerbase that THIS is exactly what we've been asking for!

I'm glad to hear it. I'll be looking forward to collecting lots of feedback around everything we've shown here when you get hands-on with each respective part of this - feedback is crucial to us, even when it's just "This is fun!" or "I'd like to see more of this." because that helps me collate data to give our teams a point in the right direction.

I'm SUPER excited for you guys to get hands-on with everything in this post. Everything I've seen so far is incredible.

Turn in wrapping paper for festive presents that could contain classic or brand new seasonal rewards not found in the Christmas Village event.
