I am as frustrated as everyone else, but I understand the limitations of TestFlight with large beta testing. However it would make a lot of people less upset if there was another wave in days rather than weeks. 2 waves a week isn’t unreasonable. That way even if you miss it your next chance isn’t too long off.
I think that'd be the plan, providing the feedback we get isn't that the user experience isn't seriously subpar.
Kinda sucks how you need to have Twitter to find out everything RS related now a days.
All warnings of iOS beta waves will be provided at least 24 hours beforehand on our website (as well as on social).
Yea dude im not going to actively check to see when youre gunna make more spots available only to not even get in because the betas fill in under 10 seconds with bots. Releasing the game on ios wouldve been a really good idea if you hadnt botched the execution so badly..
Hey - early indications are a lot of beta feedback already, so that's always a good sign that spots are being filled with genuine players. We'll be reviewing activity though throughout and reallocating places to future waves if we deem it necessary.
iOS full release is coming - and, all being well with the betas and without any additional major tech hurdles, we're aiming for later this year.
JD, besides the criticisms, I want you to know you are appreciated and none of it is personal (hope that is obvious). We really do appreciate the work you and the rest of the team do - and thanks for coming in to chat w/ everybody.
Take home message that is getting overlooked: People REALLY WANT TO PLAY ON IOS! =D
Thank you!
And absolutely - we all know how excited you are, which is why we're trying our best to ensure the beta waves process is as fair as possible to as many players as we can. Don't worry, I've been working here long enough to know passion when I see it!
We know that demand is unfortunately going to mean some players aren't going to get access, but we can assure you that whilst it may be disappointing right now, we're aiming to get the full release out (beta results pending) later this year.
Amazing work - I voted for this in the Player Gallery!
What was the thought process on allowing literally anyone to get into the beta- as opposed to members only? You don’t even need an RS account to take a beta slot. If I remember correctly, Android was members only and was an invitation. Why have you guys strayed so far for IOS?
The back-end system doesn't generate unique links per tester; so if someone was to get an email with a link to access, that link would apply to everyone.
If (as we suspect would have happened), that link would have been shared publicly (to friends, clanmates, Reddit), then it would have meant that the spaces would have been used up - meaning that many who had been invited wouldn't have been able to access (which would have been a worse option in my opinion). Membership is something to investigate, but again I'm not sure if it's technically possible as access is based on Apple IDs, rather than RuneScape account.
Will you be removing testers if they are not testing the build/ providing feedback? There is large concern in the community that slot of the slots were taken by bots.
This is one of the things we'll be discussing. The reason we're doing the beta is for you guys to offer feedback on everything from performance to bugs, so we can offer you the best possible final product.
We'll have some pretty decent usage data in the next 24 hours or so, but I'd like to make sure those taking part are genuine players offering genuine feedback.
For reference, we've seen an awful lot of feedback already, so my gut says that the majority, if not all the successful applicants, are genuine players.

We're getting a hell of a lot of feedback already, which is a good sign for genuine accounts. We will be analysing the activity of those getting in, and if they're not engaging (when we know there are loads of other players out there who could be) we'll review and possibly revoke access.
Will the future 24 hour reminders be on the game website or just Twitter? I don't have a Twitter or care to have one and having every reminder on Twitter is just unfair in my opinion.
All the communications have been on the main website so far (as well as our social channels), and the plan is to ensure that's the case with the announcements of future waves too.
I got to the install page of TestFlight. Can I assume I can download the mobile client from TestFlight and avoid the 502 errors the next wave?
It will be a different link next time round.
Will that TestFlight link be valid for the new waves when reopened? Don’t want to have to battle your website again.
It will be a different link.
That's a cop-out answer though JD. The 502 Bad Gateway errors are from Jagex's servers, nothing to do with Testflight. Jagex should've expected an insane demand on that link and had the server capacity to cope, even if there was only 1000 slots. Then it's fair game on those slots.
We'll review for future waves; I'll add it as something we should investigate.
Can we at least get confirmation that the slots went to legitimate players?

Each spot is allocated to an Apple ID.
No, I'm talking about dates for future open slots. I was well aware of today.
We'll be giving at least 24 hours' notice for any future waves. All being well, we're hoping for another (slightly larger one) later this week.
I appreciate the reply JD.
I do have a question though. How is it acceptable to make an entire update around "Play on iOS later today!" but only 1k players can even enjoy said update? It's quite deceiving and definitely shouldn't be considered a weekly game update IMO.
Hey - the note on the Game Update newspost was more of a reminder for those who either may have not been aware.
Sorry to hear that - we will be opening up more slots with future waves.
TestFlight allows us a maximum of 10,000 slots for players - so we wanted to test with a smaller batch to ensure the players coming in were playing the build and offering feedback before opening up future waves.
All being well, we may see another larger wave later this week (we'll warn you guys at least 24 hours beforehand though).

We appreciate the frustration, and would love to open it up to more players (it's a limitation on TestFlight, unfortunately).
We will be opening more waves in the coming weeks.
Any clarification on what
Increased the value of certain upgraded items to ensure they're more valuable than their pre-upgrade counterparts.
means? Like which items specifically
I believe /u/JagexKari has mentioned this in another thread.
