We updated our version of the game engine, Unity, during 6.6 development, so the settings may have changed in Unity.

Hi folks,

Is anyone having issues where they’ve downloaded the game update, v6.6, and literally cannot get into or play the game at all?

You have no option to skip downloading assets, and force closing and re-opening the game doesn’t solve the issue?

Currently we’re aware that on mobile if you try to “download all assets” from the in game settings menu it will freeze, but you can bypass this issue by skipping the download or force closing.

We’re trying to be sure no one is fully locked out of the game no matter what they try as some of the wording in the bug reports is ambiguous, but we haven’t been able to repro this so I’m hoping it’s not actually happening to anyone and we just need clarification.

Can you let me know if either of these 2 things happened prior to the game freezing?

  1. You opted to “download all assets” from the settings menu in game

  2. A pop up appeared telling you that a further download of (insert number) mb was required and there were buttons saying okay or skip?

Hey folks just an update.

Currently we have no plans to try to manually change this for a couple of reasons:

  • It’s not a Gems of War specific setting - we prefer not to mess around with things the game engine and Android set themselves as default.

  • If the screen is rotation locked it implies the rotation will be locked so we think bypassing these default settings may suit you folks here just fine (I can see where you’re coming from for sure) but might not be the expected behaviour for most users.

I will make this into a feedback thread so anyone can add their opinion on the topic and we can follow.

Hi Adventurers,

We have some issues in version 6.6 we’re going to try to do a hotfix for.

The issues are:

  • On mobile if you “download all assets” from the graphics settings menu in game, the download will freeze.

  • The map flashes red when returning to it, and occasionally appears very dark or black

  • The settings, chat and game speed buttons are off screen and can’t be used inside battles on some tablets and squarer screen/window resolutions.

  • Empty event shops and missing offerings in the Shop on the world map.

We are aware that there are issues with the UI on these screen resolutions on multiple screens, however as the hotfix will be pushed out as soon as possible, it’s better if we fix just the battle screen for now, and then fix the rest of the UI for our planned updates v6.6.5 or v6.7 so we have adequate time to test everything rather than releasing a lot of changes very quickly. ...

With the GaP Gnomes I’m assuming they were made to be excluded for that reward table during Vault events too - but I’m checking with the team.

Because we did fix it for the Cursed Gnome, and for whatever reason the fix was reverted unintentionally. Not sure how that happened yet as it’s only been an hour since I reported it to the team.

So it IS a bug - that is my bad, sorry.

To add more detail:

The Vault event doesn’t change the existing loot tables or drop chances of other Gnome rewards directly.

The Vault event adds an extra loot table globally with Vault Keys in it.
So when you defeat a Gnome during a Vault weekend the RNG first rolls to see which loot table to pull from - then it rolls to see which reward from that loot table you get.

Cursed Gnomes do not have Vault Keys in their primary loot table. So if you get a Vault Key from one you’ve rolled up the Vault event loot table.

This is applied as a standard to all Gnomes and isn’t manually setup on each Gnome individually.

I’ve brought up the fact we said we’d be making a change to effect Cursed Gnomes specifically which requires a bit of a rework of the Vault event.

I’ll post here when I have more information. It may not be today as we’re prioritising the asset downloads, red map flash and missing buttons ...

Cursed Gnomes CAN drop Vault Keys during Vault event weekends only. It’s a very small chance but only possible during the Vault events.

I can’t repro the issue on my iPhone.

The team are adding more debugging to see what comes up.

We’ve tried redeploying some server files to see if it solves the download issue as part of our troubleshooting for the Android issue.

If you’re having the issue you can also try force closing and re-opening the game to see if the downloads will complete now.

If that doesn’t work, make sure you’re on your wifi then try reinstalling the game and let me know how you go.
