Initially the ping would be "within 3km of the Sub", so a Radius of up to 3km from it.

That was cut in half, and then reduced again to "within 1km of the Sub". There are calls for it to be more accurate still, but that is the current variance.

In a way, they do. Ping Indicators only appear in the direction the ping was fired. Unless the ping is fired in exactly the same way, deviation could cross the X where the Sub is, or help anyway.

Example 1:

Example 2:

-

Granted, the Sub is likely moving but if you see the Ping Indicators you can always catch the direction the ping was fired based on the curve of it.

I spoke about this a week and a half ago. Check that out here.

-

The dispersion looks like be either in-front of or behind the sub's actual position. So it could be something like this:

-

the Ping Dispersion is "on the line" to the target. Something like this:

The Sub would have to be on the line of travel the ping was fired on.

This is a video that explains how to set up a Training Room with active Subs to practice against.

It's forwarded to when my DD gets detected so you can see the Indicators. As they are all fired at me, the curve isn't easy to see, but a ship off to the side would be able to see the curve.

Any chance you have the replay?

I think the Calm Waters mod does make the indicator harder to see. The waves give it some volume whereas calm waters seems to make it feel like just a line in the distance.
