I agree. Too many ore nodes make the whole map feel samey. I would even go so far as to want more ore types to be biome-exclusive (e.g. coal found only in the snow biome), so that location matters more for base location.

'Logically' coal would be found in higher vegetation areas with hills....so maybe the forest biome where hills are. But, yeah....completely agree with the concept. Like how Oil Shale was only found in the desert biome. Maybe iron and lead wouldn't be biome specific but limited to mountains areas. Would be pretty coolio.

You say was; FYI oil shale still is that way. And good idea: a resource limited to high elevations would give you a reason to go up into the mountains. It also might make for more interesting mining (RIP caves), and add another layer to what I’m looking for: finding a confluence of all the right factors for a uniquely suitable base site, instead of building anywhere with location barely mattering. I miss snow-capped mountain peaks.

then ill make a thread complaining that the game needs fast travel so i can fast travel to the base and mine the ores i want because my brilliant idea forces me to walk over 10km to get to the only mine on the map from the cities im looting
then ill complain that the mining takes too long and should be instant
then ill complain that crafting is dumb and so is mining and that the game should focus more on PVP
then ill drop a negative review because the game is looking like a battle royale and BR mode is cringy according to the cool kids on reddit

t. person with 10h of gametime that plays with no zombies, horde night disabled and loot 500%

The idea, as I’d put it, is for ore proximity to be a factor when choosing a base location. If you’re always a stone’s throw away from all types of ore, then that’s one less reason to explore the map for interesting spots. The map is more homogenous and therefore bland than it could be (and used to be). No one’s talking about crafting, shifting focus to PvP or battle royales, so I ask that you please stay on topic.
