I agree RasaNova it was one of the first EA games to show up. I also purchased abpout the same time, Starforge and The Dead Linger, both games failed EA never to be finished due to inept management and development.
Early Access title have been both good and bad. You, the consumer are really banking/betting on individuals that may or maynot "show-up" so to speak. They may or may not have the talent, responsibility or ambition to see the project through.
You really aren't though- At least on steam, You're buying the product as it is at the time of purchase- Nothing more, Nothing less. There is no promise of future development, no promise it will ever even change from the moment you purchase it. The only thing you're promised is to not have to buy the game again in the event it ever hits a release state.
The Early Access terms repeatedly make clear to the user that they should not purchase an Early Access game expecting updates or changes- Things like "This Early Access game is not complete and may or may not change further. If you are not excited to play this game in its current state, then you should wait to see if the game progresses further in development."
To buy in 'expecting' changes, or to 'bank/bet' on it's future development is the wrong mindset to be purchasing EA games with. You're buying a game like any other; It might be patched or not like any other.
Don't get me wrong; It's unfortunate when an EA developer gives up, or cuts and runs; Big kick in the feelings of any purchaser, Because we can't help but to have hopes. But, Those hopes should be adequately tempered to the situation, which in this case is that you're buying a game that may never change.
