Pretty much this. Data loss is a frequent occurrence when the game is shut off unexpectedly during a save function- And the game is constantly saving things here and there in the world. VEhicle location, for example, is being updated constantly as you're driving around.

So yeah...crashes will cause corruption. It's a problem in pretty much -Every- game that crashes, not just this one. And it's not really 'fixable'.

There's a reason that basically every game with auto saves says "Please do not turn off or unplug your console while is on screen", and this problem of data loss is exactly why.

It could be worked around, perhaps, Making backup files for example, but then the save needs to be broken up into many components all of which need to have their own backup files- Else when something goes wrong, you could lose far more than just your vehicle. (Take for example, the game tries to load the save: Oh no, vehicle corruption. Loading last backup.....aaaand you just lost 12 ingame days, because your vehicle broke. Instead of just losing your vehicle.) -- And breaking up the save like that carries it's own problems, often with load times and disk usage, which are already heavy hitters in 7DTD.

It is, as Jimmy says, Far better to address the issue of crashing itself than it is to chase an inherently unfixable problem. And fixing crashes themselves mean people need to properly report crashes, not just come to the forum and say "My game crashed" without any additional info.

TL;DR: Unexpected shutdown of basically any process, or game in a computer environment will almost -always- involve some data loss. It's not something that is 'fixable', only able to be worked around; Or to prevent the unexpected shutdown in the first place.
