Inventory management is part of the intended challenge. It's part of the risk you take when filling up. There are a number of ways to alleviate this as well.

As for falling, it's a game. Go see what they do in Assassin's Creed.

For every seed that weighs nothing, you also carry around things that weigh tons.

To be quite frank: Deal with it. It's a reasonable tradeoff to be able to carry hundreds of tons in a slot based system in return for occasionally some super light item you picked up slowing you down a bit.

Also, I would find falling to my death to be a MUCH bigger slowdown and massively tedious game mechanic as compared to spraining or breaking my leg. Vehicles exist and aren't terribly hard to get and they largely negate the movespeed penalties of those injuries. By contrast, A death costs me a significant margin of time, forces me to run back out to where I died, possibly fails the quest I was on, etc, etc, etc.
