It's admittedly already dubious that you can 'Use' glass from within your inventory; I didn't know it could be used in hand.

But, I also have literally never punched glass with an empty hand...ever. There's no reason to, You have to break the wood after the glass anyway, just swing your axe.

No, it was just a glass panel with no wood.

Fair- But to me personally, Still, I'd never do it with bare hands. I'd do it with my axe anyway in anticipation of chopping something in the next room; Or I'd do it with my chosen melee weapon with the expectation that I would have woken a zombie or that I'd be about to sneak up on one.

Sorry you found out the hard way though.

In earlier versions players would keep one piece of glass in their inventory just in case. :orccaptain:

It was also to give an out to situations the player just considered untenable or unfun; EG: I'm 85% infected, broken leg, broken arm, nearly starving to death and thirsty enough to drink a lake. I'm so crippled that I literally couldn't go out and survive even if I tried, and I'm just waiting for death at this point. Enter glass; One click, death is pretty immediate, and I'm back to playing the game.

I never personally used that avenue; I fight tooth and nail to survive the odds. But, That is in large part what it's meant for.
